A huge game for them on Saturday. Serious questions to be asked of the management if they don't win on Saturday because they'll have pissed away the best team we've had for years at this level

Have to agree with this.  A good team coming up along but in danger of being messed up.

some of the management decisions are puzzling.  Why Cleere and Geaney not brought off earlier when they were carrying injuries was just crazy.

Rumour has it some of the lads were out the night before so if this is true it doesnt bode well for the commitment of the team

Tbh I think it said more about how bad carlow were than how good laois were.
If we stay playing like that no team will fear us.

Midfield and half forward line need to step up a bit

Strange that it took so long to give subs a run considering the winning margin

Heard this too, glad to see Peters in, a big, solid, hardy man. Corby has the potential too, could be trouble for the Carlow defence.

I only hope they're not as complacent as they were against Offaly. Team and line

Anyone hear the team for Saturday.

Heard there were 2 changes.   Peters and Corby starting instead of Connolly and Bergin.
Not sure if this is right.

There seemed to be a fear of taking off some of the "big"names on the day.
If someone is not performing take them off..simple really.

players have off days so no favours being done leaving them on

I do wonder if the line have a different view to spectators or are unwilling to change until too late.

That was a game that coukd and should have been won

castletown won the  county minor championship last  year and not one on the starting 15, at least 5 or 6 of the mountrath community school team that got to the leinster a semi final were from castletown, surely one or two of them( young peters full back!) were better than what played on Saturday.

if we don't put out the best 15 minors in the county, then the end game is a guaranteed poor campaign. who is at fault?

I suppose its hard for everyone to agree on who is the strongest 15 but in fairness changes were called for long before they happened

From what I can see (and has been the case for a long time) favouritism is still in play in Laois no matter how much this is denied and not just at minor level

In kilkenny you have to fight for your place but in Laois in some cases your place is a given.

Very disappointing result from what seemed like a good team on paper.

I think that some of them suffered from lack of match practice / training  due to injury

They didnt seem to gel as a team and felf that there was too much going for glory.  Yes if we had to get the goal in the first 5 mins it was a great start but 2 points were thrown away which would have settled them a bit.

They are a good team and hopefully all this will get sorted and they will settle down but a lot of work to be done

A few very poor wides on Saturday night when players weren't under any pressure. Granted Clare had quite a few wides in the second half as well.

Plenty of fight in Laois and it threatened to boil over once or twice but it was good to see the fight and Laois lads up fo rthe battle. Cha will have to watch himself as he received a needless yellow for back chat.

PJ is lacking something for a talented fella. Took his eye off the ball when a goal chance was on and maybe was too aware of an impending tackle that never came. He appears to be more peripheral than getting stuck in at times if that makes sense. A bitterly cold night in O'Moore Park too.

Have to agree . Thought most of the  lads showed a lot of guts at times and you would have to feel sorry for them.

To be honest sometimes I wonder what the line are looking at.
Putting Foyle on O Donnell was pure madness.  Healy was the only one who could match him in pace .

Foyle isnt looking comfortable in the backs in my opinion and I do wonder about putting him back FF and leaving him sitting in front of goal.

Thought Ross King was hard done by being brought off for PJ Scully

Leaving only 2 forwards in was just a waste of time in my opinion and putting too much pressure on King and Hyland

Hyland showed good intelligent play but unfortunately he didnt have the back up

Where was Palmer and Mahers?

Although this might generally be true of Laois we didn't have to worry too much about over playing the ball yesterday because we rarely had it! When we did it was ballooned into the full forward line with about 3 or 4 Kerry lads competing against one Laois lad. We completely failed to win primary posession for pretty much the whole game and when we did our forwards never stood a chance.

True.. At one point we had a free/line ball (sorry not sure) and when I looked in the forward line Kerry had 2 spare men in there waiting to pick up ball and clear which is exactly what they did.  We expect too much from 1 or 2 forwards and to be honest our forwards are not strong enough for this kind of pressure.
I really dont think its fair to give out about the lads in general as they're doing whats instructed but some of them there yesterday seemed to think someone is just going to hand them the ball!!!

It amazes me how Laois mostly end up chasing a game. Its like we dont have the confidence to take the game by the neck at the start and go from there. We always seem to end up as a defencive team always following the opponents lead.
Kerry came out and did the simple thing. They got the ball and ran at our goal , if they had a chance of scoring from out field they took it and when we headed for their goal the closed us down.
Its very simple really but Laois always seem to over play the ball, Its like we have to pass it about 5 times before someone has the confidence to take their score.
I feel for the lads because they dont go out to play bad but some of them seem to think they are above having to fight for the ball and wait for handy ball! Its a team sport and they all need to be on board.
I personally think we overdo the fitness training as we certainly didnt look any fitter than kerry yesterday but out hurl/ball handling left a lot to be desired.

agree, but why put someone in charge of the inter-county minors who has never managed a team, apparently he was involved with the juveniles but never managed a team. and if the kilkenny man was over Abbeyleix seniors, would he not be in a better position to be manager rather than selector? and i thought it strange there is 2 from Abbeyleix.
its all what i heard, maybe some of it is BS?

No its not BS 2 from Abbeyleix club and Fran Dowling.

As far as I know O Shea involved with underage in Abbeyleix  only and the kilkenny man is involved with Laois minors as well as Fran Dowling as selector .
Time will tell

Laois / Re: The future of laois hurling

in my opinion there needs to be a big shake up from county board down,....  there is a level of complacency in laois hurling that needs to change.... I dont understand why we dont look at other counties to see their training structures ( we might even learn something).  We need the attitude of "its not who you are but how you can hurl" brought in from juvenile right up and not be happy with beating 1 or 2 teams and NEARLY beating others.  I dont know if its a lack of confidence or what but we seem to believe what we.ve listened to for years.....sure its only laois.  Its time to change that thinking
