Is anyone else fed up with this dickhead ?
Today, Palace had a genuine goal disallowed, and if it was you, you would be definately be raging, but his behaviour after the match was a joke. Refused to shake hands with Bristol City manager and players, just ran about acting like a spoilt brat as usual. This has been going on for years now. It;s a good job he aint a GAA manager or he would get some slaps

General discussion / Super 14 Rugby Union

Any of you big rugby fans watch this tournament ?

I think its fantastic. The 14 best teams of the Southern Hemishpere playing in a round robin competition (5 x NZ 5 SA 4 x Aus).
The physicality, speed, ball handling skills, off loading in the tackle, the force at which they hit the ruck are all head and shoulders above anything we have here. Now the Heineken Cup is a super tournament too but i still think it lags behind.
I would to see a game the way Rugby League starts their season (Aussie Champs v English Champs) only have the Heineken Cup Winners v Super 14 Winners. If the game were to be taken serious it would be some spectacle.

PS - The cheerleaders are something else !!

Anyone been watching this week on UTV Live - yeserday was about Stephen McCoy from Toome who was paralysed after the crash, a 16 year old boxer who was returning after a fight. He now needs 24 hour care. They were about to switch the life support off when a young nurse spotted his big toe moving.

Youth sentenced for running on to pitch

Published Date: 21 November 2008
A teenage pitch invader who disrupted play during Celtic's Champions League match against Manchester United has been locked up for six months.
John Murphy, 18, was also banned from attending national or international football matches for five years, one of the longest such banning orders imposed in Scotland.

Play had to be temporarily stopped during the first half when Murphy, from GlasgADVERTISEMENT

ow, went on to the pitch during the clash at Celtic Park on November 5.

Celtic fan Murphy, of Glenavon Road, Glasgow, admitted charges of breaching the peace and being drunk in a sports ground when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this month.

Last Thursday Celtic were fined £42,430 by Uefa for the invasion and for the late start to the game, which ended 1-1.

Sentencing Murphy, Sheriff Linda Ruxton branded his behaviour "dangerous and irresponsible".

She said: "Not only did you create a situation in which there were fears for the safety of the players on the pitch, but you interrupted a high profile match and created a situation which might easily have provoked serious public disorder.

She said she would have detained him for nine months but in view of his guilty plea she reduced it to six months. She also imposed a football banning order which bars him from attending any regulated football match in the UK or abroad for five years.

She said: "Such a sentence is particularly designed to have a deterrent effect on others who need to appreciate that such behaviour at football matches will not be tolerated by the courts."

She admonished him on the drunkenness charge.

General discussion / I want to be role model - Barton
October 23, 2008, 12:11:30 PM
Whats the chances ??

------------------------------------------------------------------

Barton wants to turn things around in a Newcastle shirt
Controversial Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton, 26, hopes he can transform his reputation and become a role model.

Barton was jailed for assault and banned for attacking a team-mate and says he is in "the last-chance saloon".

He told BBC Sport that because of his experiences he may be able to reach out to people, saying: "Hopefully I can be the role model I've never been."

"My reputation will precede me until the day I die and for some people that can't come soon enough," he added.

Barton, who was jailed for assault and affray earlier this year, could return to action against Sunderland on Saturday after finishing a six-game ban for assaulting Ousmane Dabo in 2007 when he was at Manchester City.

"There's going to be young kids who look at the likes of Michael Owen and Beckham, who are unbelievable professionals, squeaky clean, and they can't relate to them," Barton told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I've met people on the street, met people while I was in prison, and they can relate to you.

"When I speak from experience about the things I've done wrong in my life and how I've tried to change them, I think they respect that.

"Hopefully I'll be able to reach them people who, maybe before, were a little unreachable."

Barton was released from prison in Manchester three months ago and began his comeback in a reserve fixture for Newcastle on Tuesday.

He said he deserves "every bit of criticism that was labelled at me".

"I've had more chances than anyone deserves. It's last-chance saloon and I'm just thankful to have that chance," he added.

Barton, who is getting support from the Sporting Chance clinic, conceded many of his problems have been alcohol-related but said he has not had a drink for 10 months and is optimistic about his recovery.

"The main thing for me is staying sober. I feel so good about the future. If I could go back and change things I would but I can't," he said.

"All I can do is do what's in the future and try to help or soothe or repay my debts for what I've done wrong."

Barton was last in first team action when he came off the bench in what proved to be Kevin Keegan's last game in charge, the 3-0 defeat at Arsenal on 30 August.

He stressed he was desperate not to let down all those who had shown faith in him and emphasised his hopes to be "a shining beacon for kids who had been in trouble".  For what I lack in ability and all kinds of other things I try to make up for with hard work and that's all I can do

"The last 18 months have been hell," he said. "I got out of jail, got back to St James's Park, was booed by the fans and wasn't playing particularly well.

"I somehow felt the strength to come through it and start putting in some performances. But you don't just come out of prison and see the light - it's a work in progress.

"All I wanted to do all my life is play football - I live and breathe the game.

"As soon as I get back on the football pitch I will endeavour to give my all - I always give everything.

"For what I lack in ability - and all kinds of other things - I try to make up for with hard work and that's all I can do."

General discussion / Cipriani floored in training row
October 08, 2008, 12:55:04 PM

Has always came across as a cocky wee hoor anyway. I would say he didnt get it just for missing tackles. Although he will still be going home to Kelly Brook tonigt so i say he isnt too worried :P

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

England rugby star Danny Cipriani was left with a cut lip after he was involved in a training ground bust-up with Wasps team-mate Josh Lewsey.

A source told BBC Sport Lewsey knocked Cipriani down with a right hook in a row over the 20-year-old missing tackles during a training drill.

But a spokeswoman for the Premiership champions said the incident had been blown out of proportion.

"Incidents like this happen in training sessions all the time," she said.

"Rugby is a fiery and physical game. There is no issue and there is no problem between Danny and Josh."

Cipriani only recently made his Wasps return from a five-month lay-off after suffering a career-threatening ankle injury in May.

The fly-half made his comeback six weeks ahead of schedule in Wasps' 27-23 defeat by Bath last Wednesday, where he was replaced after 51 minutes.  606: DEBATE
Sounds as if Wasps have finally woken up and could mean trouble for any opposition

Cipriani admitted he had been "a bit rusty and made some mistakes", but was confident he would eradicate his errors with match practice.

Although he missed Wasps' 24-19 EDF Energy Cup defeat by Gloucester on Saturday, Cipriani is likely to feature alongside Lewsey as Wasps begin their Heineken Cup campaign against Castres at Adams Park on Sunday.

Ian McGeechan's side desperately need to start their European pool games with a victory against the French side to rejuvenate their faltering season.

Wasps have made their worst start to a Premiership campaign, having lost four of their five league matches, along with their EDF Cup defeat.

World Cup-winner Lewsey, 31, is among England manager Martin Johnson's 32-man squad for the forthcoming autumn internationals, starting with the Pacific Islands on Saturday 8 November.

Cipriani had been initially named in the England Saxons squad, but could be moved into the senior squad, form and fitness permitting, after Jonny Wilkinson was ruled out because of a dislocated knee.

A parachutist has been killed in an attempt to land at a football stadium in France. A teenaged spectator was also killed.

The parachutist was blown off course as he tried to land ahead of a friendly game between the French and Ukrainian Under-18 teams near Orleans.

His torn parachute dragged two teenagers into the metal barrier around the pitch.

One of the spectators died in hospital and another remains gravely ill.

Police spokeswoman Nelly Rodrigues said the match was cancelled and an inquiry had been launched.

The tragedy happened as several parachutists attempted to land with the ball before the match at Orleans' Saint-Denis-de-l'Hotel stadium on Thursday evening.

The parachutist who died worked at a parachute school and had completed more than 1,000 jumps, the AFP news agency reports.

It is not clear what caused the problem.

could never understand this carry on, would it not have been handier to drive the ball to the stadium in the boot of a car !

General discussion / Change in Tax Code
September 09, 2008, 01:58:49 PM
We have all just our pay slips in the office here and everyone is better off this week by varying amounts from 30-100 quid. Honest men that we are we queried it incase it was a mistake and would lose it later down the line. But its genuine, the government has relented and tax codes have changed. MAybe this is old news and has been discussed elsewhere but it was new news to us and pleasantly surprising.
