Seen our seniors training last night. Had to rub my eyes and check I wasn't dreaming. Footballs were in sight and were being used. But holy ghost, its the 7th January?? Any need to be back on a pitch at this time? Any other clubs back on pitch?
Was hearing Cookstown only took a week break after being relegated and have been training since the start of December. They will be on top shape for the coming season, and I back them to go up

They probably only started training the week before they were relegated

Cookstown would have been safer doing a bit of training last year!

What's up with these east Tyrone clubs not providing refs?
Sure what would possess a man to be a ref these days with the shite they have to listen to and the 49 new rules from when they played the game
A nice wee cheque for 5/6/7/8 grand a week before Xmas.
Surely you would have to do a serious amount of games for that kind of money?

Doesn't be long adding up, you could maybe do 2 youth games a day then a Senior the following. Not many refs as you say.

No idea, think I heard once 25 junior / 35 adult. Someone more knowledgeable would be able to tell us.

There is a reason Martin Sludden and Martin Hurson etc take  u16 and u18 games.

So if you give up Wednesday night, and your entire weekend for 26 weeks of the year you could get £2900.

I'll Pass, Thanks
Completely agree, however I fail to see how to make it more appealing to people unless we offer them £45 at least for a game. Will cost the average club an extra £150/year for adult games and an extra £600 for youth games (assuming home team pays, and 12 games per year at each under age level)

You would need to get up to date, correct fees. I'm only going on lump sums that I know 2/3 refs have lifted over the years. They would have done everything, underage, reserve, senior, ladies etc.

Are you ridiculing a club for getting their house in order?

HalfBack7

I see on the Castlederg facebook they have appointed Kevin McCrystal (Carrickmore) as manager, with Damien McCafferty (Errigal Ciaran) as trainer and Niall Owens (Beragh) involved also.

Not sure I've heard their names before. Have they been involved with any other clubs previously??

McCyrstal involved with Tyrone ladies at underage level. Managed that U14 team that won an All Ireland. Think he also had a previous stint as manager of the Tyrone ladies seniors too.
Was with Derrytresk along with Micky Rea last year at start of the year. Dunno if he walked or was pushed but wasn't there at the end of it.

Expect plenty of ignorance from the Derg this season then if he's over them.
Add that to a team who already have a reputation and you could be hearing about the Derg a right bit this year...

Who's over Edendork this year? What is Barton (a specialist in failure) up to?

He was S&C coach with Slaughtneil in 2019 and I think he has been with Cavan underage teams as well in the last.

Think he was S&C coach with Fermanagh during Canavan's time in charge.

You're right so he was. Forgot about that and the Fermanagh job. Maybe he wasn't at Cavan at all. Hard to keep up sometimes with who has been where.

We can all now agree Edendork will be the best conditioned team in intermediate next year. :)

Turned down Ballinderry by all accounts. Must be taking a year off.

Wouldn't say Barton is a specialist in failure. His list of clubs has some of the biggest teams in Ulster - Burren, Ballinderry, Loup, Slaughtneil plus UUJ and Derry. Not every team wins but surely he must be decent if he has coached all them calibre of teams. I totally agree that if success is measured on medals then he has failed but has he left the clubs in a better place than when he arrived - that is the key of a good manager.
If you don't take into account the 5 starred games which realistic Edendork would struggle to win w/o their county men then they are playing for a total of 20 points. Tough to stay in Div 1 when you need to get 10/12 points out of 20 in which you are competitive in. Got them 4 championship victories in 2 seasons which is not bad either.

Had heard he turned down 2 Div1 clubs in Tyrone also along with Ballinderry who thought they had him in the bag for the 2020 season
