Lads
I'm doing up stats on Laois players, but need help. If anyone could give me the first names & clubs, I'd be grateful.
Just to note, that the papers might have mis-named them, so D Conroy might have been D Conway and McDonnell might have been McDonald.
Also, R Miller was better known as Bobby Miller, so "nicknames" might be in use.
Thanks.
To start - these are all football. I will give the player and the year I'm looking at. They might have been at the start or end of their careers, or even been one-hit wonders.
1951
J Phelan
G O'Rourke
T O'Connor (maybe O'Connell)
J O'Rourke
1952
M McDonnell
If it was T O'Connell it probably would be Terry of Annanough.
OK. Could work better. The O'Rourkes were from Killeshin, though I have no first names. J Phelan was Jack, from Port.
leave it with me but was there not a phelan from barrowhouse that played with laois, father of shay who played underage in the 80's. I have a picture of the teams from the 50's at home.
Yeah, Jack Phelan of Port.
Mattie McDonnell
Tom O'Rourke

Thanks. I have Tom O'Rourke in 1952, but a G O'Rourke & J O'Rourke in 1951. Were they all brothers?

Kieran Holland. Either Durrow or Cullahill.
Further to this Richie McGee, Paddy Flynn, Paddy Maher and Kieran "Blazer" Holland all hurled for Durrow in 1928 junior hurling final.
Class. Thanks a million.
Looking for a J Fitzgerald (2011). Cannot seem to place him.

Football or hurling? I'm thinking it's a misprint.
Could be Tommy in hurling.
Hurling. Was thinking T, instead of J, but you never know who popped up for one game.
Last one for this list.
T Kelly (Rovers) c.1951.

Could be Joe Fitzpatrick too in another form of misprint.

Tommy Kelly. A Tommy Kelly played midfield for Rovers in the 1951 county final so it must be him.

He played in 1939 also.

It's Robert or Bob Campion.
