Championship structure may need changed too, every other county seem to do the groups allowing teams to have off days. Not a back door but a group of 3 and the top two qualify or something. As well as every other county doing it, it is also similar to the Super 8s

You can get to F&@k with that idea
Straight knockout is the only way to run a club championship
That's what is so special about Tyrone Championship

Agree here also, part of the reason why we have such great attendances at games and the joy of knockout football is giving smaller teams the chance of knocking a big team out! And there is no way in hell we could throw more fixtures at our County board!!

Hear, Hear.

None of that round robin malarkey

square_ball

Straight knock out the only way to go. Derry/Tyrone championships get the big crowds because it's all on the day. A round robin/back door just makes the strong teams stronger.

Leave the championship alone. We have the best in Ulster with the straight knockout format. Do or die on the day is what championship is all about.

I disagree, groups would be very entertaining it still does ultimately come down to the day

Do we? It was only a couple of weeks ago we were talking about how the attendance at this year's SFC Final was notably lower than in previous years. Plus, is there any way to quantify attendances in earlier rounds to those elsewhere in Ulster, at least?

Antrim, Derry & Fermanagh all ran a straight knockout format for their Senior Football championships this year as well, there's nothing special about Tyrone also using the same format.

Yeah we do, we still had around 6500 at the county final and probabaly the same for the 2 semi's which is more than a lot of our County national league games and over 2000 sold online also which is why they dropped, you imagine a lot of those online are being bought by pubs who then have the place packed with ones watchin it! Also I watched all the Sunday games online myself and never once bought it as the link was posted on a WhatsApp group from someone else who paid for it and id forwarded it on to many of my mates aswel so this all this is affecting crowds!

There is a lot of things around Tyrone thats needs to be looked at and reviewed but the championship format is definitely not one of them, its the main thing the county has got spot on at present.

All well and good, but (a) I was asking about the attendance in comparison to early round or - pre semi-final round games in other senior champiship fixtures in neighbouring counties, not home games in the NFL, and (b) watching pirated streams of Tyrone club championship games off Tyrone GAA TV is not something I'd be (myself anyway) openly talking about!

Ha is big bad Eugene going to come after!!!
Also it jst a flaw and not "pirated as you say" its a flaw they need to fix! Its says unlimited viewing on the link they email you!! Last year is said 5 then they upped it to 20 log ins and now this year is unlimited

It's that format that makes Tyrone special. You shouldn't be able to win a championship having lost a game in it imo.

Exactly what makes every game competitive and helps gain new winners every year save the tables for the league, for example this year carrickmore the 13th best team in the division able to make a semi final which helps a small club like that enjoy big days out which they probably wouldnt with another format

ANON2018

The Derry club championship has only recently changed back to a straight knock out system. They used to have groups and games were played in a round robin system. They ditched it because there ended up being some meaningless games and very poor attendances. There is nothing wrong with the Tyrone championship but there is with league fixtures so why are we discussing about changing the championship??

The only thing that would need changed with the championship is to separate it from the league so the league can do it's own thing without having to rely on County Players for 2/3 of games.
This should allow for a proper run of league games especially during the summer months.
As an example you could have the likes of Pomeroy (with 3 or 4 county players) playing in Division 2 but in the Senior Championship.
