QuoteCatch yourself on. I don't give a monkeys what you lot do in the Cavan championship. It just shouldn't be allowed in Ulster. As the poster below pointed out Kerry amalgamations aren't allowed into Munster. And don't give me the number crap. Every county in Ireland has big clubs and small clubs. Last week Slaughtneil beat Omagh. I'm sure the numbers difference in the 2 clubs is vast. Also Moortown wouldn't exactly be a big club

This is NOT an official GAA competition.  It is a tournament run by the St Pauls club in Belfast(that has got permission from the GAA to do so).  It is up to them who they invite into it, and the criteria used, not some opinionated Derry folk.

Personally, I am against amalgamations.  I prefer when my own club goes alone even if it means a heavy defeat is inevitable.  It keeps players that might drift away about a bit longer. However, if the numbers don't add up then clubs have to amalgamate.

QuoteSome counties have a cut of date as the 01/07 for certain age group's. It coincides with the school year

Ah right. its U10½. done like the age groups for the ulster colleges.

"So my son is 11 in August and plays U10 for a club"

If he is 11 this year he shouldn't be playing U10.

I think we would not have played anyone from Munster except Cork or Kerry and limerick. I don't think we played Laois, Carlow, Kilkenny or Offaly  in Leinster but I do recall back door games against Longford, Wicklow, Westmeath & Louth. I know we played Meath a good bit, including 3 AI finals and once in the backdoor. We also played Kildare in a final and Wexford in a semi final.

In Connacht we played Ros, Galway and Mayo in AI finals. We even played Sligo in an AI semi. Leitrim we didnt play I'm fairly sure. London or New York possibly as there were home finals etc but can't say.

So by my reckoning Cavan never played Laois, Carlow, Kilkenny, Offaly, Tipp, Waterford, Clare or Leitrim.

Cavan played Tipp in 1935 AISF & Offaly in 1969 AISF.

Warwickshire were beaten in the British Final today by Scotland.

So its Scotland we will be playing in the semi final.

'Out of interest how many of that Cavan team has ulster under 21 medals?'

6 of the starting 15 named have U21 medals.  & 10 of the 21 used have U21 medals.

If Ballinderry make AI Club Final, Bell will probably not be playing against us.

Hard luck to the girls but like what has been said already, why was Doonan not kicking all the frees.  When you have a free taker as talented as her it doesn't make any difference what side the free is on.  If she was given all the frees there wouldn't even have been a replay as it would have been wrapped up the first day.
Having said that Westmeath kicked some shocking wides and probably deserved the win yesterday.

In the 1992 AISF v Mayo there was a colour clash.  Donegal changed to yellow and Mayo to Red.

After they won they decided it was lucky and kept to the yellow with green trim for the final and have done so since.

Sligo did something similiar after they beat Kildare in Croke Park in the qualiiifiers.

They had changed to their second strip (all black) because of the colour clash and then decided to stick with it.
In fact I think they may even have been fined for doing so.
Apparantly you can't change your 'colours' mid season.

I would only make a slight alteration to the current format for the football.

People have to remember we are not professional and any notions of having a 'Champions league' style format are not for me.  Every Championship match has to mean something and with a Champions league style format we would end up with dead rubber matches, teams not turning up, pulling out, no crowds, in effect a farce.
Remember our games are parochial and that is where our strength lies, hence the provinces should be restored to greater importance than the qualifiers.

The changes I would make is have May called Qualifier month. (Reduce the amount of league games by 1 or 2 so that it finishes in  mid April)
All teams in an Open draw with 3 rounds delivering 4 teams into the AI Quarter Finals in August.

Then play the provinces from June onwards.

If a team wins their province and is also a qualifier then they automatically make the AI semi final.
(loss of revenue by not having a QF should not be brought into the argument imo)

This would bring the real knockout back to the provinces, every team will have had their 2 chances, so no more whinging from the provincial winners.

The provincial draws can also be made according to how their teams are progressing in the Open Draw qualiifiers.  The should mean teams should not have to wait to long to play and also that they get at least 2 weeks gap between playing.

Other criteria could include that in the Open draw there has to be a winner on the day i.e. no replays so continue to play extra tim till you have a winner or have some form of shoot out.

With floodlights in most grounds now, provinces should play games(where appropriate) on Sat night as well as Sunday.
