So with Carlow Kerry Westmeath and Offaly all playing to meet Galway or Laois surley its in Offaly's best interests to make sure they loose one game in this and finish second thus meeting Laois and not Galway??

why would first meet Galway makes no sense!

It is bizarre alright. I thought Antrim were in the Christy Ring though? Or are they in both?

These teams must be sick of the sight of each other at this stage. They'll play out in the round robin in the 'Leinster' championship and probably then again in the qualifiers in the AI proper....

This aspect of the AI draw needs a rethink!

I see Kerry get to play at home yet Galway can't because it's the "Leinster" Championship ::)

Hurley logic?? ::) ;D

There is none.
this round robin is actually an inconvenience for the Leinster GAA as it affects the football counties
and the counties involved cannot play club games on those dates

Zulu

Westmeath 1-16 Offaly 0-7 into the second half, bad times for Offaly hurling.

Great win for Westmeath.
First goal they conceded in 2016!

Actually, the 'round robin' is not considered part of the Leinster championship proper. It's a qualifying group for the Leinster championship, so Kerry - and Antrim last year - are entitled to home games.

Yes, great win for Westmeath. Offaly have two home games now, so should still bounce back to qualify. Does anyone know if there's relegation from the round-robin this year?

waterfordlad

Great result from Westmeath but shocking for Offaly who won an All Ireland less than 20 years ago and now are being beaten by 14 points by Westmeath which shows how far they have fallen. Well done to former Waterford manager Michael Ryan.

From the Bunker

Ger Loughnane fears Offaly will disappear from the hurling map completely if the GAA doesn't intervene.

But hey they don't have the population of Dublin who in time will fill Croker in Hurling. So will the GAA miss Offaly if they further disappear?

This is not a dig at Offaly as I like Offaly but Loughnane.

So a county that won all irelands deserves to get help but ones that haven't won all irelands do not. He is full of s**t. He sits there talking about poor teams coming from antrim etc and has no problem with it but if a traditional county struggle give them money.

The minute the top counties monopoly in the spotlight is threatened (eg minor v Christy Ring on all Ireland Semi Final billing) then the big hurling counties circle the wagons

Or the setup of the league is structured to stop a top county bring relegated - relegation playoff. By rights Laois should have been relegated.

The national hurling centre was located in Waterford, hardly a county in the middle of the country that could have genuinely made a contribution to strengthening hurling in the Midlands and up towards Ulster.
