GAA Discussion / Re: GAA Official Rankings

The league is only one competition. If a team wins the AI from Division 2, are they not a top 8 team?

If there was sufficient incentive for league form to be genuine then it would be an abberation for a team outside the top division to win the championship.

Isn't ranking the teams what the national leagues are for?

Producing an alternative set of rankings would generate all manner of acrimony and further undermine the national league's standing as a competition.

Lots of national newspapers contract smaller games out to one reporter who then writes the report under an assumed name

Which makes perfect sense if there is a full round of national league fixtures for both football and hurling, but for gods sakes there were only 2 championship games on. It's less than 2 hours from Dublin.

Most of these reports would come from the same source. That's why many papers make the same mistakes, they're just putting out the same material. It's a matter of taking the report and editing it as you see fit. They wouldn't have had anyone watching the game and would depend on the feeds from elsewhere.

If a national newspaper cant get their own reporter to a Provincial Football Semi Final, or even have one watch it on tv then you really have to wonder what exactly their GAA staff do.

mistifying......

You have to wonder if these people watch the games at all.

It's the ''Dooher off bench replacing injured O'Neill'' blunder I'm getting at by the way

We'd never produce a player in that class.

Why? Isn't as much a fluke of background as anything else that Carlow have produced that kind of player?

Brendan Murphy - Carlow
Zac Touhy - Laois
Kyle Coney - Tyrone

Just in case you were living under a rock and missed the relentless media bombast about this tournament - it started today!

Not a preview, not a supplement, not a thread, not a thing!

A photoshoot looks about the extent the GAA media has gone to promote one of the best competitions in the sport.

Rant over.

3 games this afternoon anyway.

Ulster Bank HE Sigerson Cup First Round: (Games at 2.0 unless stated):

UCC v DIT, Mardyke;

UL v IT Carlow, Limerick;

St Mary's Belfast v MICL, St Loman's, Mullingar.
