GAA Discussion / Re: County Manager Merry go round

This week's Ros rumour is former player from around 20 years ago Don Connellan.
He's based in Galway where he managed NUIG and I think Moycullen.
He's from the same Club as the Cathaoirleach.....
Managed Moycullen at a county title and they are one of the front runners again in Galway this year after beating Corofin at the weekend.
Hopefully this is more than a rumour

General discussion / Re: The fall of Barcelona

Playing a certain style of football is almost more important than winning at Barcelona, thus there hasn't been an Italian manager there in over 50years.
You could say Koeman had more pedigree than Xavi having won titles in Holland but he was always going to be a disaster.
The job is too big a role for most managers in the world, Pep and Enrique both got burnt out in the end despite the successes

Xavi (if he gets the job) is not expected to fix everything. Far from it. But he will be given time to improve things as he will be seen as doing the right things by the club for the
long term future rather than an outsider who will be expected to fix things quickly which is currently impossible.

Its going to be a slow build and Xavi will focus more on the Masia and developing the young talent they have, he will get the team playing the Barca way and get the fans back in the stadium
If he can do that it should be classed as a success as they are in a terrible spot at the moment

If Madrid tried to hatch a plan to destroy Barca they could not have done as good a job as Rosell and Bartomeu have done the last 10 years

This whole clamour for Xavi is mad too. Given the state they are in, you would imagine someone with a bit of sense would advise them to get a top quality manager who has proven credentials.  Xavi has done or shown nothing to suggest he will do any better than the previous failures.

Like who?

Time was right. Injuries and age really caught up with him in playoff games the last 2 seasons and he looked like an old man at times

They will be fine re the cap, its like a yearly challenge with them. Only 9m over at the moment and bar Malcolm Brown it hasn't been too painful. Thomas just restructured deal so he is staying.
I expect Kamara to do the same.  Hill could play more at TE this season than QB with Cook and Josh Hill gone.
Jameis is still front runner to start at QB but they should be drafting one with their 1st round pick. Russell Wilson as much as I would love it to happen would be too expensive.

Disgusting no call in the Saints game. They let lots go in the game but that was as blatant and game changing as you can get. Compare that to the flag fest last week v the Eagles and you begin to see the inconsistencies.

In all honesty though the Saints really struggled on offence all evening (apart from a couple of decent drives). As expected, if Thomas was bottled up then a large part of the diversity is taken away.

What was the craic with Gurley?

Yeah even though it was a terrible call and would have likely ended the game I thought the Rams were a bit better and just have more weapons and as you say a few more ways to beat you, god willing they can beat the Pats. Brees hasn't played well for quite a few weeks now

Ben Watson was huge loss. Would have given them an extra weapon on the 1st 2 drives when they should have came away with at least 10pts rather than 6.

You can't feel sorry for DOC.
Was it not for his idiotic elbow on Conroy Mayo would be in the Super 8s
fully rested up and ready to give the big one another crack.
Running himself into the ground yesterday doesn't wash over that stupidity.

That's shite on Kildare.
They get drawn first and end up with worst possible scenario
So what if 6k tickets would sell out in 10mins.
It would be on TV and anyone who wanted to see it could see it.
Kildare would have been better off if Mayo came out 1st as Mayo's record in Croker recently is better than in Castlebar

Europa League Final on tonight. Atletico Madrid 2nd in La Liga priced at  4/9 while Marseille 4th in the french ligue are 9/4.

Spanish sides have won 5 of the last 8 Europa leagues while a French team has never won this cup.
Atletico were evens to win in 90. Always underrated by bookies
