Presumably the same reason "all those" atheists, Muslims, Hindus etc celebrate Christmas - because it's a national (or in the case of Christmas, international) festival which has gone beyond a simple religious celebration.

He's playing for England A as far as I'm aware, does that rule him out?

There's still basically no hope of the UAE winning in my opinion but the longer they keep this going, the later in the day the match goes on and the closer to the rain we get.

Time to break out the rain dance yet?

And the gross disparity in funding between Ireland and the lowest ranking Full Members would remain. When Ireland reached the Super Eights in the 2007 World Cup, they earned $56,000 in prize money; Zimbabwe, who did not progress beyond Ireland's group, received $11 million. The gulf is only a little less yawning now. Under the new world order, regardless of on-field performance, Ireland will receive around one-eighth of Zimbabwe's funding from the ICC and TV companies every four years.

I'm pretty sure that's money from the ICC.

One of the main things about getting through to the last 8 is the prize money, some Eur300k just for qualification. It would more than double all what Ireland earned in the group. It would mean  the hotel and travel bills be paid on time and unlike the Scots, would not have to pass the helmet around, to pay the tab.

Yet it's still considerably less than Zimbabwe will get for failing to even get out of the group.
Where do get that idea about Zimbabwe?
According to the WC prize money distribution, there is no favouritism.

Admittedly I'm basing it upon what happened in 2007. I don't have access to the article at the minute but I'll post it tomorrow. Off the top of my head, I think Ireland got something like $54,000 for rescuing the Super 8s in the West Indies, while Zimbabwe got significantly more.

The set up is finished and ex senior manager is coming in to take over.PO was put back in to county to take over minors in few years but looks like he is in now ,a little earlier than planned.
Things are at an all time low , morale among the squad and confidence in the set up all but gone.

Absolute rubbish according to what I've been told from the people that know best.

Weather forecast for Napier (where WI play the UAE) is rain virtually all this week and the start of the next, including Sunday, so hopefully the forecasters have got it right.

I could look this up, but I reckon I'll get a quicker answer here - if we finish level on points with W. Indies what decides who progresses to the QFs?

Net Run Rate - NRR on the table.

Thought Down were useless tonight. Got cleaned out in midfield and their handling was awful as well. Losing Mooney and Kevin McKernan so early was a big blow. McCorry used 5 subs by halftime though which left us in a bit of trouble as regards getting a black card. Unfortunately we're now going to have to listen to him crying about playing against a 14 man defence for the next week when at times that was the exact system he was playing.

As a member of the losing panel yesterday I think Down Fanatic needs to wise up. If an amalgamation has to be done, it has to be done. Congratulations to Southern Gaels and best of luck in the final.
