GAA Discussion / Meath vs Louth 12/06/16
May 17, 2016, 09:24:38 PM
Apparently moved to Pairc Tailteann but official site still says Parnell Park.

Hard to know what team we'll have. Twelve players who got a run out last year now not on the panel.

Recently beat Donegal in a challenge match in Ballybofey, rumored to have put 5 goals past them but that's just what was posted on hoganstand so take that with truck load of salt. Mayo beat us in a challenge match before that.

I'm not going to write anything about this game.

I just want Andy McEntee to be our manager.

Would he want the job though?

Lets bring the Tayto-power to the Ernemen.

I imagine we'll have the same team that started against Armagh.

GAA Discussion / O'Byrne Cup 2017
January 08, 2016, 12:01:01 PM
No thread on this yet? Shockin' disgrace so it is.

Where do things stand at the moment for your counties. I am away so only catching up with it when I have wifi.

Meath need to beat Laois on Sunday to get through after losing to UCD. Apparently we hit the woodwork 7 times in that game which I feel we should be awarded 10 bonus points for such a feat. Not only that but James McEntee scored two points for UCD so they should be ours as well.

Anyway it all comes down to Sunday for us.

General discussion / Home Security
December 29, 2015, 11:32:10 PM
Hi lads,

My parents home was burgled a few weeks ago. They've never had any issues before and only have a triple lock back door as protection.

Themselves and the neighbors used to watch each others houses but it wasn't enough this time.

I know nothing is completely secure but we're just discussing putting up some cctv cameras or something.

Just wondering if anyone has experience with these matters or could recommend something?

Hopefully a few broken fingers will have mended in time for this, though the lads coming back might be a bit rusty. If we don't get McGill, Reilly or Menton back I think we'll be really up against it. Even Mickey Burke isn't 100% and still played today.

We need to talk about this.

With these two teams within a stones throw of each other in the league and given what is at stake I thought this was worthy of its own thread. Cavan beat us soundly last year at home but hopefully after another shakey start to the league I hope we are finishing strong.

While some other meath posters are not too keen on is going up to division 1, it's been that long for us I'd like to go up out of curiosity as much as anything else, just for a change of scenery perhaps. No harm in getting the lads acclimated to that level of opposition no mater the results. Who knows we might even be able for it.

Anyways, on to Cavan this weekend. I imagine we'll line out similarly to last week with Gillespie, O'Rourke and Reilly staying on the first 15. O'Sullivan and Harnan should too. Menton is probably worth starting as well, he seems to be a lad who is starting to really hit his stride.

Well our first game of a new championship. Looking forward to it.

Glad it's in Croker as I think we'll be a bit more comfortable there than in Dr Cullen Park. Can't take this fixture lightly as we might have once as we nearly got caught last year.

Possible line up similar to our league starting 15.

Paddy O'Rourke

Donal Keoghan, Kevin Reilly, Cillian Young,

Pauric Harnan, Brian Menton, Micky Burke,

Shane O'Rourke, Conor Gillespie

Cillian O Sullivan, Andrew Tormey, Graham Reilly,

Brian McMahon, Stephan Bray, Michael Newman,

Rumours of injuries to Stephan Bray and Kevin Reilly and if true id say well see David Bray start and Burke or Menton at full back with Paddy Gilsenan coming in on the wing.

General discussion / Debates You'd Like To See
April 09, 2014, 01:05:08 AM
Any debates between political or social heavyweights that you would like to see and what would you like to discuss.

For me it would be the following:

Liberalism and the decline (or perceived decline) of western civilisation
Peter Hitchens & Theodore Dalrymple Vs Owen Jones & Germaine Greer

Geopolitics and "just war"
Robert Fisk vs Tony Blair

The GAA and Irish nationalism
Ian O'Doherty vs Joe Brolly

Hate to be the ones to send ye on your way but someones got to do it.

Sure we are only returning your kind gesture from 2012

I can tell you Division 3 not as bad as they say. Its what you make of it really.

GAA Discussion / GAA doing a deal with SkySports
March 27, 2014, 02:35:17 PM
http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-football/sky-in-talks-for-gaa-tv-deal-30130109.html

Seems they are doing a deal for some of the championship games.

I'm really hoping that this is part of the strategy to grow the game beyond the shores of Ireland and not just a new way of fleecing the existing viewing public.

The extra exposure will be good but I'll be dead before I ever pay for sky sports.

Pretty much a must win game at Pairc Tailteann for both teams though for different reasons.

#34
Well. What do ya think? Beat or be beat?
#35
Well let's see how this goes. Will be very interesting to see who starts out of the 32 that played in the OByrne Cup. Definitely think we can win this one. if we don't win all our home games, it'll be hard to see us in the battle for promotion.

General discussion / Who was it again??
July 24, 2013, 04:58:03 PM
Remember when some unionist politician registered here to make some comment about gaaboard posters regarding something about british troops marching in Belfast or something like that and got caught out by leaving his email address visible.

Who was it and what was his user name can anyone remember?

Although perchance it may be our fate, to Wexford our hopes do die
Oh, bear my body to the pub wherin our fathers cry
And have the solemn service read, to Pairc Tailteanns holy towers
And have the young bar maids from Nobber, to fill my glass with Powers

QuoteTHE WICKLOW VALES

Oh brightly beams the summer sun
On fair lands far away,
A garb of green the valleys wear
Where silvery streamlets stray

But boyhood's home I'll ae'er to forget.
Tho' dark my fate may be,
Where'er I roam, my Irish home
The Wicklow vales for me

There's music in the leafy woods-.
And 'mid the rocky bills ;
The rolling stones that follow fast,
The leaping, rippling rills.

And sunshine dances round the door,
As midday, wild with glee,
And proudly stand the mountains grand,
The Wicklow vales for me .

Amidst these bills the steel was heard,
And Music's martial strain,
When patriots sought to make our Isle
A nation once again.

The outlaw bold, the eagle wild,
On mountain's brow was free,
Oh, Freedom's home, where'er I roam,
The Wicklow vales for me

Oh sorrows fall like mountain shades.
O'er brightest scenes of earth,
Yet hope remains amid these plains
To hail the morrow's birth

And gladly glides the winter's night
'Mid scenes of mirth and glee,
Where'er I roam, my mountain home,
The Wicklow vales for me

Let other boast of happy hours
In fair lands faraway,
My love for thee shall never fade,
Where'er my footsteps stray.

Dear Wicklow - Home of loving.hearts
My mountain nurse  :Mo craoi
No vales can e'er with thee compare,
The Wicklow vales for me

Inspired by An Uachtarán I just thought I'd start proceedings off with a bit of poetry.

GAA Discussion / most important club to your county
November 17, 2012, 03:42:15 PM
Here's something to row about to shorten the winter.

Over your counties history, which club has contributed to your counties successes and also influences how the county team in how they play. I know in Armagh the easy answer is Crossmaglen.

In Meath I would say it's a toss up between Skryne and Senchalstown though it really depends on the era we are discussing.
