Just wondering, how far into Autumn do you plan to continue your U6 sessions? Do you also organize an end-of-season party for your team?

I've noticed that some Dublin clubs align their training with the school terms, taking a break during the summer. Do many clubs train throughout the winter?

Thanks for the input, great information !!!!

GAA Discussion / Role of club coaching officer
July 14, 2023, 10:56:28 AM
Looking for some feedback on what a club coaching officer does in your club, not what they should do according to the GAA docs ...

How much input does your coaching officer have on coaching individual teams ? How do you get coaches to adhere to the direction set by the coaching officer?

Any good initiatives your coaching officer has started ?

When the last round of matches arrive will teams who have won one match and lost one match be considering what type of approach to take for their final match ? ie do you rest players and have them fresh for the preliminary quarter final ?

Maybe they wanted a paper trail, hard to say what was and what wasn't said in a call unless the call is recorded? Not sure if they are.

agreed, but again normally the best approach is to finish the call by mentioning how you plan to email a copy of what you had discussed to a certain email address belonging to the county and for good measure email croke park too.

Croke Park ordered an audit
There were 5 emails from her father. They went  to an administrator address.
They all got lost. Allegedly
Derry GAA spoke to him this week

https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/revealed-nicola-gallaghers-father-sent-five-emails-to-gaa-about-rory-gallaghers-alleged-abuse/a295909971.html

The Irish News has reported today that the investigation by croke park, has established that the Email Address used by Nicola's father was last accessed in Feb 2021. A full year prior to his submission of them.
Central GAA advised DCB to remove the address immediately,  which they did last week. There is very clearly an agenda by the independent reporter to misrepresent the facts and damage the GAA in the process.
-So why was the dud email address on the Derry GAA website? Who was responsible for this ?

It wasn't a dud email, it was an old address. If you check 90% of counties websites you will see old email addresses on their websites. The county website normally is ran by the county pro who runs it in a voluntary capacity. If you really want to get a message across to a county board executive the only reliable way of doing it is via a phone call.

If the hurling wasn't on gaago it would be on sky sports with the same conversation. No fan of rte but they can only show so many games. If gaago or sky sports weren't broadcasting the games would they be on at all? Split season means all the games are condensed into a shorter window. Does munster hurling need to be promoted before the Tailtean cup etc??

A fair whack of the population already have Sky Sports I would think, Gaa Go is an extra expense and a much inferior product the fact that it's streamed. The streaming would instantly rule out some people in rural areas

Any numbers to back up that claim that a fair whack of the population already have sky sports ? Most articles on the matter point to the sky gaa viewership figures being low https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/business-of-sport/arid-40991783.html  . GAAGO isn't perfect, but i feel its a lot better than the sky model

A football man myself but love the wee ball, and Donal Og is 100%

Is he ? if some of the munster hurling matches aren't put behind the pay wall, what hurling matches will be ?

Where will the GAA get the money for paying player expenses ? to pay for the new pairc ui chaoimh ?  Fraher Field ? for developing club facilities etc

Donal is a good man for complaining, but does he have any real ideas for promoting it other that putting it on free to air tv

My number 1 tip would be to be invest in a half decent bluetooth speaker. Kids love music and you can get so much exercise and movement created simply by playing music and getting them to star jump, hop, run fast/slow and pause when music stops.

I focus on simple things like moving round the space and bounce ball 10 times, throw then catch the ball in the basket. Kids love it when you introduce adults who'll then try to knock the ball out of the basket, gets them to focus and finding space and improving their peripheral vision by avoiding collisions.

Interesting reading the debate around whether 6.5s should play games at the end of the session. I've looked after the age bracket for 6+ years and if you ask kids the one thing they want to do its games. Still think there's room for very small sided, fun-focused games.
thanks for the feedback, regarding the game at the end what format do you use ?

Thanks to everyone who replied !

I presume then you wouldn't try a game at the end of the session ? normally the game is something closer to rugby/american football

You could try the bubble thing after a month or so but if you just let them at it then 10 lads just crowd around the ball carrier.

sorry but how to you play bubble ball ?

also would you give a heads up to parents on new games you plan to play at the session ? ie so they could show their kid a video of the game before they arrive ?

Hello,

i've previously coached at underage level, mainly u14,u16.
Recently I've started with my young lad at u6s. Im looking for tips for running a u6s session, obviously the main goal has to be enjoyment for the kids. There is some difference between some of the kids who can nearly kick with both feet and other kids who can barely pick the ball off the ground. We have circa 30 kids at u6 ! so crowd control is a factor !

GAA Discussion / Re: Armagh v Galway AIQF

In the post match interview Kieran McGeeney posed a question back at a journalist what to you do when someone pushes you ? insinuating that the correct and normal thing to do is to push back, granted its an awful situation for Kieran to be in having to do a post match interview after losing a match, but its caveman stuff pushing someone back because they pushed you. If someone wants to start a fight with you, you do have the option of not engaging with the other person and getting drawn in to a fight. If Kieran matches the video of the melee he will see Tiernan Kelly pushing Sean Kelly who is the bigger man and doesn't push back.

Matching the melee again the way the Armagh subs came in so fast, and were double-teaming up against the Galway players in what seemed a very choreographed way.

Its fantastic to see the GPA pushing for equality ! Requesting that county training facilities would be shared equally between mens and ladies teams and requesting equal spending on all adult teams. Surely in the short term this will see mens teams having less access to facilities and less cash to be spent on them, but its fantastic to see the mens section of the GPA pushing for this.
