Down play Offaly in the Walsh Cup on Thursday @ 8.15pm in Ballymun, Dublin.  The game is under floodlights on a synthetic pitch.
That game has now moved to Darver in Louth.
It's like a treasure hunt at this stage.
The fixture has been switched from Tullamore to Mount Bolus to Ballymun and now Darver.

they should play it up in Down altogether. Are the pitches up there waterlogged? At least if it's in one of the competing counties you might get a bit of a crowd. Playing it in Dublin never made sense.

QuoteWe support political parties the way Scottish people "support" Celtic or Rangers in this country. I was as guilty of this as anyone up until a few years ago. We buy into what we want to hear, and justify our choices based on irrational "knowledge". This notion that FG are incompetent is just part of that.
`

I reject that completely, personally. Unless that is supposed to be a broad sweeping statement like 'some people like chocolate'.

I have voted for other parties in the past, and voted against FF party lines in referenda etc.

Taking the whole Bertie Ahern thing out of it, (I didn't think Inda was bad in that situation actually), I was more interested in what they were going to do. This silly contract that said very little was a load of hogwash in my opinion. Whenever there was a debate about issues, only Richard Bruton in my opinion came out with any credit. Everyone else's position seemed to be 'well, we're not Fianna Fail'. And Enda Kenny's performance in the leadership debate was the final nail in the election coffin for them.

I think that's a common enough occurance in countries within the Commonwealth. Is the Queen not also the titular head of state of Australia, New Zealand and others?

Edit : The 'Queen of England' is not her official title. She is (deep breath) 'Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith'

But's thats up to them to persuade us to vote for them LS, and they did sfa before the election to make them appear a viable, stable alternative. Maybe it was masterful tactics because whoever was in power was going to have to deal with a far different economic outlook, and everyone knew that before the election. Maybe Fine Gael and Labour deliberately appeared apathetic and lackadaisical so that they wouldn't win back power, hoping to win it next time around.

General discussion / Re: Green Party on Lisbon

I think this is an internal memo to Green members, protocol for dealing with the media on this issue. I doubt it was for public consumption. Somebody probably got p*ssed off and posted it on politics.ie

This one I like.

QuoteThe Party has NO position on the treaty. Party policy is neither in favour, nor against, nor neutral.

If you are neither in favour, nor against, are you not, by definition, neutral?

Was Heath Ledger the lad in Knight's Tale? The young fella that pretended to be a knight to take part in Jousting?

Basically he crossed his fingers.

Is there a history there?

The Army rules and regulations state that the commander in chief is the titular head of state. As such, he should either a) be agitating that the rule is of saluting the C in C is altered, or else b) trying to change the constitution to not recognising the Queen as head of state, or else c) that the head of state is not automatically CiC.

Either way, he would have a valid case in my opinion, but it is unreasonable to join up to an organisation, knowing this is a rule, and then flouting it. By all means disagree with it, try to change it, but why sign up at all if he felt that strongly about it? (Or aboot it even).

It seems as if he is not trying to change any of those constitutional elements, rather he is trying to say that he, as someone who doesn't recognise the Queen as head of state, shouldn't have to salute his own Commander in Chief. I would suggest that if Gonzo from the muppet show was deemed to be commander in chief, he would have to salute him.

What's this all about? I just got it in an RSS feed. I wasn't really looking at all the game, but I didn't notice it. What happened? Is there history here?

QuoteDuring the closing stages, with the tie already lost, Nicklas Bendtner - who had earlier scored an own goal - became involved in an altercation with team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor, and appeared to complain of being headbutted by the Togo international.

Arsenal captain William Gallas stepped in to try to calm matters down, before then himself being confronted by the angry young Danish striker. Eventually, referee Webb had to intervene to restore order.

As the Yorkshire official revealed he did not witness the events in their entirety, the FA have now asked broadcasters to provide any relevant television footage.

It's a well known secret that the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church is a closet homosexual.

Is that not an oxymoron?

I thought that too Dinny. Another example of that sort of sh1te that is turning me more and more off soccer. Once, just once, I'd love to see the like of that lad at the bottom of a ruck on a wet Saturday out in Clifford Park or somewhere. They don't know they're born.

You seem to think we take Biffo as an insult Croi. We're proud of that name :D

As I said Pat, the rights and wrongs of it are debatable, and maybe he has a case to try and get the rule changed. That's an entirely different proposition to refusing to obey a rule of an organisation which you freely joined.

Quotebut he's broken a law, he pays the full price, end of discussion.

I agree. I would be a Fianna Fáil voter, albeit not one emotionally invested in it. I have cast votes for other parties in the past. However I think Bertie is rapidly becoming a hinderence to the party, rather than a benefit, which he was until this tribunal began to really expose some strange carry on to say the least. He now runs the risk of waiting too late to give his successor any time to repair the PR damage which is being done. If he cared about the party at all, he'd probably resign. Then again, maybe he cares more about Bertie, the public persona, rather than FF the party.

However, I presume you are missing an 'if' there in my quote. I don't think he's actually been found guilty of anything at all yet? In fact I don't think he's been charged with anything at all yet.
