Winds seriously picking up here now....

Anyone see Lucas' dive on Saturday? Embarrassing.

I actually prefer to view rugby from behind the goals, because you can see the overlaps, lines of running etc etc. However, in a stadium like Croke Park, that would be a long way back, so maybe medium high in the Cusack or Hogan would be best, anywhere along it.

God forbid they might spend a tenner. €5 with you and €5 breaking Paddy Power. I will face the same hurdles, no pun intended.

Just floated the idea. Lukewarm so far. How about instead of rolling over to the next day, the winner is the best placed of the horses ye picked?

Pissing rain and windy here in Limerick. I'd say the 'eye of the storm' is passing over Ireland at the moment, and the winds will pick up as the eye moves towards Britain.

True enough. I suppose your way would be better, but a lot of people would be confused I think, especially those that don't like betting.

We'll probably run a sweepstakes on the Gold Cup anyway, maybe I'll run a sweep on the big race every day.

Gold cup is not a great one for a sweep this year with the top two so far ahead of everyone else, there are 7 of us in the office so I am going to pick the top 7 in the betting in a race each day. €5 a man, winner gets the €35 and there are no long shots  :) In the event of the winner coming from outside the top 7 the pool fund rolls over until the next day

That sounds good.

How does that work? I have the RP today, but I haven't looked at it yet. Was planning to have a gander tonight.

Well pints, to be fair, that would be beyond the remit of a rules, procedure and penalties committee. That should be a policy decision by Central Council/Congress.

That would take work. I'd have to calculate returns etc.

How about everyone picks one horse in a race. If they pick a favourite they get 5 points for a win, 2 points for second, and 1 for third. A non-favourite would be 8 points for a win, 4 for second and 2 for third?

I think it's consistency, both of selection (Rafa) and performance (players) that is the issue, rather than quality. I think a formation like they have now, with
Reina, Finnan, Carragher/Hypia/Skrtel/Agger, Riise, Benayoun/Pennant, Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard, Babel/Kewell, Torres/Kuyt/Crouch has the ability to be a lot more competitive, albeit a player or two short, creatively, of actually winning the title.

But to flog the horse some more, it's being consistently inconsistent that's killing them.

That was always likely to happen. The refs err on the side of caution now, because they are afraid that the media will jump all over them because they were 'conned'.

Just a thought lads, do ye know of any easy to run 'fantasy' type things for Cheltenham week, to get a bit of craic going in the office? Is there a standard type of thing for say, picking a horse in every race, or  something like that. I don't want one like 'Winningest jockey (everyone will pick Ruby) or stable.

Martin Breheny's journalism has descended into farce.

Is that publicly available quidnunc? Otherwise that's dodgy territory you're getting into.
