just a neutral view on the mcgeeney substitution - Sean Cavanagh was running through that defence all day like he was up against an u12 team. one of the main jobs of a centre back is at all times to hold the middle and stop the defence being split open.

I know he's a legend but he was actually goin bad that day.

In fairness ya cant lay all the blame at mcgeeneys door i know, moving him would have been the best option cos i reckon it was a huge lift for tyrone to see a man of his quality go off and a terrible psychological blow to the armagh lads at a crucial time.

He's bounced back well though, loved the way he pinned the Aussie in Croker like they always do to our lads!! tough hoor!

Does anyone recall Tony Davis' sending off for Cork against Derry in 1993? been a while since I have seen it but from what I remember it was very harsh, especially with the conditions that day.

Ah Duine Eile come off it!! Tommy Joyce's effort nearly hit me after he kicked it and il tell ya i was a long way away from the posts!! Didnt matter a bit though cos only one team was goin to win galway this year but i see your point(excuse the pun!!)

Would have been nice to beat Kerry alright, and though i said earlier that we wouldnt have won 2001 if we bet them that year iv no doubts we'd have won it in 2003, attitude caught us out that year!!

O stop, dont mention the Joyce/Savage incident in 2000, was in the Uncles place sunday night an he has a load of these galway matches taped. he was watchin that game again and i saw the end of it. the worst of the whole lot was that Joyce was through for a goal even, now im sure he'd have fisted over the bar but....o stop il have nightmares tonight!!

Then again we wouldnt have won in 2001 if we won that!!

yes definitely, whatever my rants about matt clancy, Paul is definitely the most under-rated galway footballer of recent years with honourable mention to Gary Fahy! only in last couple of seasons has he got the bit of credit he deserves.

have heard nothing, his surprise start against Westmeath was a shock and i think people just presume he's ok! not an injury to bounce back from with such ease. really hope he's around next year, badly needed.

ya probably FBD panel as its small. Wonder will Nicky Joyce be available this year?

At the risk of getting abused I would rate Matt Clancy higher than most. Watchin him this year, and he does a serious amount of hard work that i dont think is ever very obvious on TV. its alot easier to appreciate when attending games. always seems to be the first man whipped off when even our bigger stars are performing worse than he is. he can get terrible abuse from our own supporters at time.

Word has it that a Galway training panel of 24 has been announced with no Donnellan or Joyce!!

This wouldnt neccessarily mean retirement as they are unlikely to be involved this time of the year anyway!

Anyone hear anything??

Hurling Discussion / Re: Mattie Murphy gets fired..

In fairness to Murphy (I wouldnt be a massive fan of the man) his constant declaration that they werent a patch on the 05 team was an attempt to play down the hype of 3 in a row and take attention off Canning's historing making attempts.

it was a weak team, that was evident against Antrim the first day. Alot of annoyance over the amount of players he selected from the South Galway area, maybe this had something to do with it. 7 gort minors, and they didnt make the club co.final

Never heard much about this Sean Connolly, interesting to see how he gets on.

While I wouldnt write off Cushendall by any means, I think Loughrea are well aware of their potential and will deal with that successfully. Have to agree with a previous post that this Loughrea team is seriously underrated in Galway and outside of it.
Will need a huge All-Ireland campaign from Johhny O'Loughlin to win an All-Ireland.
Remember, Loughrea did not concede a single goal in championship in Galway this year, an amazing record!!

Its definitely a more open championship than in recent years, dont think Loughrea have the forwards to pull it off but should make Croker on Paddy's Day.

Mount Sion might be worth a pop at 8/1 but i suppose have 3 very hard games to win before they even reach a final.
