The majors have become a bit of a lottery these days - so many good players about and all capable of winning the big tournaments. Would love a European to win just to break this long wait dating back to the last Open held at Carnoustie. Of the Europeans i think Donald, Casey, Harrington, Stenson and Garcia have the best chance. Darren Clarke is due a good week but might be a bit much to expect him to be in contention.

Which is why Woods and Mickelson have bagged 6 of the last 10 ;)
I'd fancy the same two lads to fight this one out between them - would like to see Mickelson take this one, but whether he'll ever truly manage links golf??  The word is he threw todays scottish open, as it's unlucky to win it the week before the Open!!
Might have a wee punt on Sergio too.

i stand by my comment bout many players capable of winning majors - the likes of Ogilvy, Campbell, Curtis, Cabrera, Johnson - shows that the majors are wide open for a lot of players to win it. Dont think it will be a straight fight between Mickleson and Woods either by the way and you can quote me on that this day next week and i will gladly eat humble pie!

Tony hawks

I have a fiver on Carl Petterson to win has made 13 straight cuts, good track record at the the open.

Always back Harrington and will be doing so today, made a few quid on Di Marco last year and might go there again (150/1 with totesport). Novelty bet Brett Quigley 300/1 ;) ;)
I'll go back if Marsdens back

Seve Ballesteros has announced his retirement from golf.
The 50-year-old Spaniard, who won three Open and two Masters titles, said: "This has been the most difficult decision of my life."

Ballesteros played in four successful European Ryder Cup sides and captained the team to victory in 1997.

anportmorforjfc

Darren Clarke hopes his performance in the Open this week will show his golfing rehabilitation is complete.
The Ulsterman's focus understandably slipped after the death of his wife Heather last year and he missed eight cuts until three weeks ago.

However, his joint 49th at the Buick Open was followed by an impressive tied 19th finish at the Scottish Open.

"I've put my head down to come through this and I'm very comfortable with my game," said the Ryder Cup star.
