Quote from: twohands!!! on Today at 05:37:12 PMWas talking to someone who was at the Clare v Cork game. Standard was poor enough from his account.
He said if both Tyrone and Donegal don't manage to beat both of them comfortably they might as well not bothering turning up for the knockout stages.
He didn't give Cork much of a chance in the knockout stages (assuming they pick up the 3rd place spot in the knockouts.
Clare given the huge player turnover and losing a good and long term manager have been more competitive than I expected them to be in the league and championship this year. That was a high stakes game last weekend with both probably knowing the loser could be facing a group stage exit so for matches like that they don't tend to be great in quality.

Kerry's last two championship games against Cork was won by a margin of 2 and 3 points and last year Cork beat two Div 1 teams in Roscommon and Mayo.  With that in mind shouldn't they be able to give Donegal and Tyrone competitive games? and depending on the draw they should be capable of beating a few teams in the play off round to reach what would be their 3rd All Ireland quarter final in a row.

Seems a lot of Tory MPs aren't happy with his decision.

Great stuff. Let the slaying begin.

Quote from: Itchy on Today at 05:44:27 PMOr Biden could be a man, explain the slaughter and why America won't stand for it. Appeal to moderate sensible people. The truth is he's in the pocket of the same people as Trump. See 2 white sheep analogy above.

If I were in your shoes I'd get my family out of that shithole.

And I'm not shouting.

If by pocket, you mean the general US public. Yeah, he could call it a genocide, but that would be self-defeating, and basically handing over the keys of the White House. There simply isn't a receptive audience to hear that message, and especially not from an aging president with lots of other policy problems in an election year with an opponent only too happy to exploit bigotry and fear-mongering on this and many other issues. Like I said, even the very modest move of pausing the 2000 lb bombs has been very controversial.

People from Ireland and many other countries are sympathetic to the Palestinians due to our history of colonization and dispossession. Americans have been brought up to see Israel as a flawed ally in a hostile part of the world. Gutless it may be, but that's the political reality Biden has to deal with. And no one ever said he is going to be remembered in the pantheon of inspirational presidents like Lincoln.

Quote from: johnnycool on May 21, 2024, 10:38:52 AMWestern standards laid bare for all to see:

I'm not sure the term "Western" is appropriate, every west European country and Canada, Australia and New Zealand support the ICC.

The USA don't.

Then the post should have referred to the USA and not to "Western".

While your post shouldn't have made the claim that "every western country" supports the ICC.

The point I was making is that the "western" world were up and arms and rightly so when Russia invaded Ukraine, sanctions, diplomats getting banned etc etc, but when Israel starts slaughtering the Palestinians on a scale that would make Pol Pot blush, there's none of the same concern.

Is there any nuance at all between the two conflicts or do you reckon they're directly comparable?

The direct comparison is that innocent women and children are being killed in both.

what other nuance do you need?

So given that innocent women and children were killed in the Second World War, it must therefore be directly comparable to the conflict in Gaza?

Can you see the drawbacks of using this kind of reasoning?

See Owen McCabe back playing for Carryduff? Hopefully over his injuries and gets a good run of games, maybe see him back in a Down panel before end of the Tailteann Cup.
