That was a good send off for Shane MacGowan yesterday. The way more Funerals should be. Celebration of a good and memorable life instead of the deep mourning of his death.

You have an event like Shane MacGowan's funeral mass where they seemed to do what they liked, and it was much the better for it, in my opinion.

Then was at a funeral today where the family were refused permission to deliver a eulogy, on direction from the archbishop, lest it take away from the priest's homily.

The church don't help themselves at all at times.

I gave the eulogy for my grandad.  Ahead of time the priest gave me a talking to consisting of rules about how I couldn't go over a certain amount of time.   I had no plans to go long, but I still think that was pretty classless of the priest to try to tell me how I could publicly honor the memory of my grandad.
