General discussion / Tips travelling to the 3Arena
« on: April 12, 2017, 10:31:05 AM »
Driving down from the north tomorrow for the Ed Sheeran gig. Hate traffic queues especially car park bottle necks, so I'm looking for advice on getting to the arena without all the dicking about parking near the venue. Was thinking about coming down the Malahide road and parking in and around Fairview, then busing it down to the docks area from there.

Has anyone else any better ideas that drop the hassle factor getting there?

Glenariff: DUP halts 180k Glens community funding over 'IRA names on gates'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-36427426

The DUP has pointed to the names of IRA men that appear on gates near the site.
Charlie McAllister and Pat McVeigh were killed in 1922 and their names are on gates that lead into the Glenariff GAA grounds, where the community centre is planned.
Fourteen members of the DUP have "called-in" the decision.

Jesus fecking Christ
This is the sh1te we have to work with. Talk about going out of your way to be offended. I've been going to that ground all my life and never spotted gates never mind what was written on them never mind who the people were. Any excuse to polarize with the DUP  >:(

GAA Discussion / Club championship admission prices in your County
« on: July 27, 2015, 04:28:13 PM »
Antrim county board have just released the admission prices to championship games this year (minor up to senior)

http://antrim.gaa.ie/news/championship-admission-prices-2015

At the bottom it states "Under 16's are 2 into all games"    :o

I presume from this U18's will be charged full whack?  :o :o

Are parents asked to cough up for their kids in any other county?

General discussion / Internment Bonfires....our culture... really?
« on: August 09, 2013, 08:02:53 AM »
Someone help me out here. Explain how this is not copying one of the most despised cultural pastimes of loyalism? A classic case of monkey see monkey do. Surely we know the sentiment/message that these events are conveying to wider society and ingraining locally. Are we happy about that? I would have thought nationalism was a more evolved being to get involved in such things. Pandering to the lowest common denominator with blue bags at the ready

Seem to be that a fair few multinationals are providing the Irish Exchequer with plenty of tax wonga from profits generated in other countries (but transactions completed in ireland). Never mind the high quality employment

Just how big an impact an impact will these rows about Google/Apple/Microsoft have on Irelands attempts to drag its economy/finances out of the red?

Farrell wants jobs kept in-house
11 November 2010

Ulster GAA President Aogan Farrell has called on clubs around the country to appoint managers from within their own ranks.

Farrell told clubs at the recent Ulster Coaching Conference in Armagh that clubs should be able to go it alone in all areas:

"The manager is one aspect of that," said the Drumgoon Eire Og clubman. "Clubs don't need to go to the next parish or county to find a club chairman.

"They should be well able from within their own club area to find a good leader from their own community because GAA is about passion for your own place.

"In the same way they don't need to be going to anyone always expecting there is a grant for this or that.

"They should be able to grow their own players within their catchment, within their own community - people who have a love of their own club and place, and they should be the people that power their teams."

Surprised this topic hasn't been raised before now. The country is rife with journey men getting 50-100+ a night taking teams they have zero allegiance with. Many have zero credentials but that is beside the point. I'm 100% in agreement with the argument being made here.

What are your own thoughts? Have some clubs became almost addicted to the outside man solution? It does appear to be rife in alot of areas

Are there any legal/tax gurus out there that could help with this one

My brother in law wishes to transfer a house he has in Donegal into his brothers name. Both a resident in the north. No money will change hands in the transaction between them. Could anyone outline what the tax implications might be?
