From what I saw tonight it's definitely not a happy camp, they were extremely lucky to get the draw, wouldn't be shocked if they ended in a Relegation final

Is there any truth that Borris in Ossory and Kilcotton are at odds with each other?

Given the stunt Graiguecullen pulled to be in that competition in the 1st place can't say I was too saddened to see them bet

They have a pick of a 3rd of the population to themselves, if they had serious competition for players from another club in the town it would force them to improve their standards of coaching and player retention, as it is they are at best coasting along
You look in Kildare and Naas who is a simular albeit slightly smaller town with one club dominating leagues in Kilkenny or in a bad year very competitive, meanwhile Portlaoise are playing in B competitions regularly these days

Critchley or Dempsey if you were looking for someone who would be seen as non biased towards either code because I could imagine some football people being unhappy with cheddar, ideally you would have all 3 involved though

Realistically there should be 3 clubs in Portlaoise, make a deal with Portlaoise college and base a Juvenile one in Knockmay a place with a big population that has never been tapped into for players for various reasons, start at u9/10, if you wanted to be very ambitious the county board could do simular with a pitch in the COE, given the amount of children in Portlaoise school the percentage playing gaa is deplorable and I am taking into account other sports/distractions too that come with being in a big town like Portlaoise

So your argument is that lads should be treated worse by the fixtures comittees and dedicate their entire lives to Football, an amateur sport and have no social life or experience of the real world to appease the likes of yourself?

I'd rather see lads do what they want to do and enjoy their Football or Hurling while having a life than putting every waking moment and decision to it and hating it, and in the end getting nothing for it

And for what it's worth, I see no reason why football and hurling can't be played on the same weekend with a bit of planning. Jesus in other counties it's been known to play two matches in one day. Not in Laois though....

Maybe lads have a life and interests outside of GAA, you say Laois provide player welfare like its a bad thing, ask the majority of the players and they will tell you they like the system as is

Couple of our main players are missing for a combination of reasons, i've heard Rosenallis are in a simular situation which is a pity as i fancied them to go well enough, if it was a normal year you would imagine the 2 Arles's are getting precariously close to the drop

Slieve Blooms future has been taken away with those transfers, over a jersey? How it was let happen is a disgrace. Realistically no player in Laois should be granted a transfer to another club inside the county, particularly a lad from a junior/small club to a senior club, bar its something like a lad moving from clonaslee to graiguecullen other than that its a small enough county, lads from every club regardless of grade should be given an oppurtunity to hurl or kick senior.

Regarding mass amalgamations at underage i feel every club should make an effort to try go solo for as long as possible even if it means playing B, Rosenallis are a prime example of this and you can see the benefits of it now for them. And even if some smaller clubs feel the need to go together they should try go with a club of simular size, surely better for kilcavan and the rock playing football together than sending young lads into mountmellick as it for mountmellick too, same with Ballinakill going with Ballypickas in hurling rather than taking lads into Abbeyleix or The Harps who have numbers on their own

All you have to do is look over the ditches where galmoy/windgap is the only underage amalgamation in Kilkenny, Ballyhale play at C level sometimes if they have to, meanwhile in Offaly you have Birr going in with two other clubs at some grades to make up teams.

From what I was told one of them was thick enough that he considered walking away from the Senior Panel in order to play, surely your loyalty is more to lads you grew up playing with

I can see there being a lot of rows over this if its true, take us for example, we have lads currently playing hurling with, abbeyleix, ballypickas, clonad clough/ballacolla, colt/shanahoe and park/ratheniska/timahoe. How do you decide if it's the hurling club or football club as the home club? Imagine trying to explain to the other 5 clubs that lads that have played for them have to go to abbeyleix. Easier solution is to alternate between a hurling only week and football only week for both league and championship

No id say if anything they want them gone, only thing stopping it underage this year is the fact Ballypickas are gone from the Raheen set up to form one with Ballinakill, possibly with a few of full amalgamation in time, believe Colt/Shanahoe/Trumera and Clonad are split for some ages where both have numbers which is fair enough. Clonad starting to run out of options if Raheen Parish Gaels falls apart because i doubt Ratheniska/Timahoe would take them again and not a hope of going with Portlaoise
