Will be out and about around Sligo town on Saturday night. Can any of you locals recommend the best pubs to be frequenting.

Main criteria is quality of stout and maybe someplace where a good pub meal can be wolfed down before returning to the main task and if they are showing the hurling qualifiers all the better. No wine bar type places please.
And maybe a recommendation of a good Sunday morning settler location before heading for Knock again would be appreciated too.

cheers

Maddog - will do my best for ya. Best pubs in town for a good pint are Hargadons (O'Connell Street), Connollys (Markievicz Rd/Holborn Street) and Shoot the Crows (Grattan Street) . Of the 3 only Connollys have a TV but it wouldn't be ideal for watching the hurling. The pints in all 3 are top class, they are pubs where people go to drink and chat. Hargadons do food up the back where they are trying to have some sort of wine bar thing going on (don't rule it out on this alone, its really like two differnt pubs in one) but the food is grand and you don't have to leave the premises to get back to suppin good pints down the front.

Food wise you have several decent options. McHugh's (Grattan Street), The Belfry (Thomas Street/JFK Parade) probably two of the best. Both close to the town centre and the other pubs I've mentioned. There will be no bother getting the hurling on if its not on already.

Forgot about Sunday morning!

You should head for Strandhill. Shell's Restaurant on the seafront is top class and Bella Vista Bar and The Strand Bar do good food too. A walk along the beach would be good for what ails you and get you ready for the off again.

Hope all that helps. It's not the worst town for a few pints.

Cheers Seanie, will check them out alright.
