GAA Discussion / Re: Armagh v Fermanagh
February 27, 2016, 09:35:47 PM
Went to match, poor enough game, just 2 bad teams. But does anyone know where fermanagh get their arrogance from? Their fans are very hard to listen to, they continuously throwing 2004 at armagh fans around me! WTF like! Also between Quigley prowling around trying to intimidate players, to corrigan waving to the crowd when he scored his free which would only have got them a draw! Then no4 at the end decided to make a beeline for mckeever and stood throwing punches at him and mckeever stood and took it! Looking forward to putting manners in them!

Word is that Armagh had a tactic to get as many Cavan players sent off as possible but that didn't work so they levelled it up and that worked better.

Word is Cavan thought they would flex their muscles, as usual, but ref took appropriate action! 3 men sent off in 1 game for off-the-ball antics - must be a record! Cant see that tactic being very successful as the year progresses! I think this might be a case of Cavan winning the battle but Armagh could win the war! Hyland on the way out! ::)

I doubt Armagh will win very much

For the record, Im not from Armagh - And No they wont win much but I think theyll beat Cavan come championship, which is what I meant.
Oh and also for the record, as for Tyrone (my county) we have bagged the O'fee Cup, will probably take the McKenna Cup AGAIN and that will be our lot this year! Time for MH to go, along with Hyland - but thats for another thread!  :o

Hughes article is all the more laughable when he has McGeeny included in the past 15 years and not Canavan because Canavan retired in 2005.  Any one who hasn't Conor Gormley in a team of the past 15 year is having a laugh. Eamon O'Hara............DEAR OH DEAR
Wouldn't be annoyed about the Mcgeeney inclusion, but McCabe, OHara, Shields, Bradley and f**king King Benny!!! I think hes obviously trying to step into Heaneys shoes by being controversial!
No canavan, gormley, mcguigan, mcdonnell, any O'Se's - laughable! Really surprised he didnt have CJ McGourty on it! Ffs

DeV is and always will be a legend! For his 0-14 in the 1999 county final if nothing else.

Up in Belfast. Just realised I forgot my shoes!! Is there any clubs/disco bars that don't mind runners#christ any advice welcome #rentshoes

He is and always will be a showpony with little end product! He just didnt have the balls for the big day! Imagine if he was playing today with philly mcmahon staring him down, hed physically wet himself! As for #rentshoes, that just sums him up! He was interviewed in the late 00s and reckoned Tyrone & Armagh took football too serious and were too concerned with systems, training and weights! That sort of thing just wasnt for him, and now he comes out with this crap about managers!
There are alot of quality players that didnt get the opportunities he got but just got on with it!
And you know what, Im sorry i started this thread, he doesn't actually deserve discussion!!

Dominic Corrigan taking over at Killyclogher... he gets around that lad  ::)

Staggering figures being mentioned in this agreement.

Its all about the £££££.

I think this one will break all records ;) ;) ;)

And worth every penny!!!

Couldnt believe my eyes when i read this! He reckons every Donegal manager during his playing career is to blame for his failure to win anything! What an egotistical pr1ck! From memory they were beat by better teams in ulster finals ie Armagh and to say he lacked "courage" would be an  understatement! He never struck me as a boy that had the stomach for the battle and Armagh knew that! Compare this clown to the likes of Michael Murphy?!? Who woukd consider buying a book that Devenney wrote?!? The man has zero class, blaming men incl Mceniff for his own inadequacies!!!

Scotstown may well be disappointed with the contribution of some of their county players! Beggans kickouts were poor and the kickout that led to the last goal was coming all day. As for his freetaking, what were they at letting him continue at them when it clearly wasn't working!  Kieran Hughes is very talented but he gave away a bad goal in the 1st half and although the sending off was harsh it was a lazy tackle. But i blame mcgleenan, playing him at fullback was a complete waste of his talent!

Cross were just too experienced and overall the better team. With ulster in the bag they'll take some stopping now!

At the end Mcgleenan had to be pulled away from the ref, he should catch himself on, the ref wasnt to blame for their defeat, he was!

GAA Discussion / Re: Juvenile Coaching

Here goes Lol! Some if you will love this! At one point in a wee match yesterday my son got a free on the right hand side and was kick able but i told him to try with his left, he was told by another coach to put it over with outside of his right. I insisted he kick it with his left, he did and unsurprisingly put it wide. The other coach gave off to him, who i told I'd speak to after training.
So when all children left the pitch we had a "chat", in summary i explained id be encouraging my son and others to use both sides, he insisted that children at that age weren't developed properly to be able to do it. So on the way out of the pitch 2 parents came to me to say they were disgusted with the coach telling off my son for his left foot attempt and would be raising the issue with the club themselves. When i told them i wasnt allowed to coach the children to use their weaker side they were dumbfounded. So they are away to chat to other parents and other coaches in the club and intend going to main club executive to bring it to a head.
Hope none of them read this board - Lol.
Vive la Revolution! If would be funny if it wasnt that serious. But to be clear i praised my young fella the whole way home for trying it with his left and he was chuffed.

Read a report in newspapers yesterday and quoted Mattie Mcgleenan saying something like "if we gave Jamie Clarke a few quid would he head off touring again". Not being from Crossmaglen and i find that hugely disrespectful. Bear in mind that Mcgleenan is the 1 that is jumping from club to club chasing the dollars! He is employed as a teacher and taking club teams for the highest bid. Clarke is entitled to do what he does and when.

From the outside looking in (and i could be wrong) but i dont think Cross pay for outside management, and on that very basis alone i hope they beat Scotstown! Sorry Mattie i don't support those who fully utilise the merry go round and then try to drag the name of others down!

I suppose what I didn't say was that the other guys are mainly exFootballers whereas I  only played a bit and was average, which is why they look at me as if i don't know what I'm talking about. But I do know the game. I have mentioned the issue discreetly without saying too much to a friend who happens to be the parent of 1 of the better children (but is 1 sided) and he has said he will start asking why his son isn't being encouraged to use his weaker side.

Oh and maybe the reason I why an average footballer was because of the coaching I got. I do remember it being boring at underage level so lost interest. The club is setting up this academy because a top club has done it and they want to be seen to be keeping up. But the reason the other club is at the top is I'm sure as much to do with the way children are coached from they walk through the door, than the coaching they get from 16yrs onwards.

Anyway another mini coaching session this morning, so we'll see how it goes. I will be mentioning both sides until I'm blue in the face. And may try the idea mentioned of tying a ribbon or something like that.

Sorry i used both feet as an example but the debate was really about using both sides in general!

What i was told was "why bother trying to get them to do it with their left when they can't even do it with their right". I became really disillusioned and went home thinking why bother, but i know that if Im not there God knows what they'd be coaching them!

GAA Discussion / Juvenile Coaching

Hi, just joined forum but was looking a bit of advice.

My club has decided to set up like a football academy for underage football. I attended a recent internal coaching course and when they spoke about coaching u8 and u10s a few things were mentioned that i didnt agree with so I queried them.

Here goes, i asked should we not be encouraging u8 and in particular u10s to be kicking off both feet, well at least introducing the concept and encourage it, i was basically told I didn't know what I was talking about and that the idea of playing off both sides would only be introduced at u14 or even u16 when they were more physically prepared! I found this very alarming, but after heated debate i gave in to greater consensus. I would love to know what other clubs are doing and if my views on coaching are wrong?? I was going to contact our county development officer for advice but that would only highlight the issue within the club.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
