Once you start dieting then you're fecked so knock that on the head, unless you are seriously fat and need to for medical reasons, balanced diet with all the food groups on your plate throughout the day will stop your body binging or craving the other shite that puts the weight on.

It's easy to put weight on after a certain age and if you happen to stop playing for the club, the idea that you can consume more calories than you burn off and expect to have the same body shape than you had while playing is daft. When I managed our senior team I more or less stopped all physical activities, I still hurled for the reserves when I could but I didn't do a wile lot of training.

When I had more time on I never went to training just turned up and played, I put a stone on during that period, now for someone my height 5'6 its only going in one two places, not a pleasant look, so I made a lifestyle choice/change I joined the gym (something I thought I'd never do) and for 3 months I had just 3 meals a day and cut out the shite, I lost a stone and coupled with going to the gym I've never looked back.

I go 5/6 times a week,  first thing in the morning before work so no real interference with family life. Met a load of like minded people who are very competitive and up for challenges, we enter road races, triathlons and cycles challenges. Will never take away the adrenalin of senior championship match but it's working for me, and that's the key, finding something that works for you.

Course the other side of it is people with low self esteem who use food as fuel to hide behind personal issues, comfort eating.

Christ we all love a Chinese or and Indian for dinner, what gets me is the feckers who get this after a night out on the piss!! First off its so bad for you and generally you will not remember eating it so the enjoyment factor is gone.

30 mins for his run lol

Ffs you'd think he would have done a bit of training for it!

Entered the Top of the Mourne Triathlon in Rostrevor Jim, have you done any this year?

I'll be lying up in Vegas while that one is one MR! No, haven't done any this year. Did the marathon and a lot of cycling but never had time to do any triathlons so far. Hopefully get at least one in before the end of the season. I go on holidays on the 3rd of aug and back on 17th so any before or after that then let us know.

Will do. I'd rather be in Vegas ya lucky bistard

I think the education piece is overstated. Television, newspapers and magazines are full of articles on healthy eating, food awareness etc. How can anyone have missed the recent "anti-sugar" onslaught? Cost and convenience/pure laziness are huge drivers.

So what's your excuse?  ;)

Has anyone seen Modern Family on Sky One? Only recently discovered it and it's fantastic. Cam is brilliant, as too is Gloria.

I dicovered it several years ago on a long haul flight, I watched episode after episode. I think it it might be losing its mojo now as Luke and Manny grow up but in short a wonderful comedy, well written and not a poor character in it.

Phil Dunphy "I'm cool dad, that's my thang. I'm hip, I surf the web, I text. LOL: laugh out loud, OMG: oh my god, WTF: why the face"

Great show, very funny in parts. A well written show and can laugh at the family with the girls and young boy, the dad cancelled xmas in one show, done that a few times lol

Talk of a new flag for NI won't happen, because no side will recognise it. Having a new neutral NI flag for events like this makes sense though so as not to "offend" any competitor.

How many competitors do you know are offended? Wouldn't be happy myself but where does it stop? It would end up people being offended representing N.I or having prods in the team

I'd say if they are offended will try and get in the Irish squad, have you ever been to the amateur boxing championships in Dublin? If you are from the north ya have to knock him out ........ twice to get a result lol

Its hardly doing him much harm - hes competed at the commonwealth games which is more than any of us can say.

Well I don't know about you but being lapped in the first discipline at this level is a big thing. Fair play is right but I'd have thought to get on at these games there would be some sort of qualifying time before entering a athlete don't you think?

I think what I've seen in Ireland is 'fat' lads. Lads like myself to be honest, carrying too much around the middle. What I saw in England however was brutal. I'm talking about men and women being unable to see their toes, I'm sure. Crazy stuff. so while our statistics might say Ireland has a similar proportion of over weight people, my little sample size says that your talking about a major difference in scale. (no pun intended).

Get you on the running thread, we'll sort you out soon enough!! Never had a belly, never will and I'm probably a fat snob

I think if you have no one of the required standard it's discretionary who you send at games like these as per eric the eel etc...

An eel would have been ok this is a doing the lad no good, I'd have finished that swim before him and I'm not a strong swimmer

It's a disgusting flag, at least the Irish tri-colour originally was supposed to represent the protestants, the Ulster banner wasn't intended to represent Roman Catholics in any manner what so ever, a crown on top of the red hand just doesn't cut it given its Gaelic roots, may as well stick a photo of Robert the Bruce on it.

When driving in the countryside yesterday I noticed a house with union flag bunting all around it and a massive Union flag and an Ulster banner flying from flag poles in the front garden, I don't know what sort of bigoted tr**p you need to be to feel the need to do that.

And is a bitter twisted fecker no doubt, where have you been for the past 40 years? Take a dander up the Shankill  or Rathcoole, they have three poles coming out of the holders, Israel British and Norn Iron. Sad but that's the way it is

Is there any street cred for a boxer with a commonwealth medal.. ?

Sure there is. . . 3 lads won Gold in Delhi 4 years ago... all Nationalists I think and they would have all had to stand under the 'NI' Flag listening to Danny Boy. It's obviously a bigger deal to some people than others.

A lot of people couldn't give a fcuk about a flag one way or the other especially in Sport. Should Sport and Politics not be separate anyway?

Plenty of Ulstermen have stood under the Tricolour for the Irish Rugby team so why the outrage now when it's the other way around?
Is the tricolour a sectarian coat trial?  You need to google ulster banner

It's used by some to be, you need to turn the TV off and not bother getting yourself in a frenzy
