Players opting out on Cunningham. Colour me surprised. Who could have seen this coming?

I think those that opted out did so before Cunningham was even in the running for the job.

Correct but not as good a story to peddle.... there is normal player churn, a few post college travelling,a few in 30s retired , and 2 or 3 unavailable... No big story...

The earliest anyone ive spoke to from Ros had any wind of these was a few weeks back. So it was known in October that 3 of yer 5 best players were taking the year off and noone spoke about it on here or elsewhere online?

Kevin McStay in September after he had retired from the Roscommon job.

From our panel of 34 players we had two retirements, four lads who wanted to travel after their college courses, We had two lads whose bodies were banjaxed and could not take any more.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Taken from the Galway footballers homepage. They always seem to be in the know.

There are a number of new faces in the Galway panel for the FBD League

- Cillian McDaid (Monivea/Abbey)
- John Daly (Mountbellew/Moylough)
- Fintan Cooney (St. James')
- Gearoid Armstrong (Salthill/Knocknacarra)
- Maghnus Breathnach (An Spidéal)
- Antaine Ó Laoi (An Spidéal)
- Finnian Ó Laoi (An Spidéal)
- Mikey Boyle (Killererin)
- Stephen Lawless (Caherlistrane)
- Aidan Claffey (Maigh Cuilinn)
- David Cunnane (St. Michael's)
- Liam Boyle (Kilkerrin/Clonberne)

Paul Conroy & Eamonn Brannigan are both long term injury absentees ahead of the new season.

Conroy continues his recovery, having sustained a broken leg back in July, against Kerry during the Super 8's in Croke Park.

Brannigan underwent ankle surgery towards the end of last year & he continues his recovery from the surgery.

Sean Armstrong has retired and both Cathal and Patrick Sweeney are unavailable in 2019 due to work commitments.

By the way is Fintan Cooney not your man from the last series of Underdogs?
Gearoid Armstrong any relation to Army?

Younger brother. Having seen him play this year I wouldn't have thought he'd be getting the call, fairly decent club player alright but we'll see. The Cooney lad is from Underdogs alright. I'm sure all of Corofin will be watching this game through their fingers hoping none of those lads get injured, good to see them involved though.

Fair enough, find it strange that there was little to nothing from a fairly vocal online support about it until early Dec but will take your word

Loftus and Boland need big campaigns in the league to start staking a proper claim . Loftus has massive potential
Walk-in down mchale rd , sun out, summers day , game day . That's all .

Very young Sligo team, great to see so many debutants.  Average age must be about 23.  Good luck tomorrow, happy to see so much youth on the field.  McDonnell, red og, Donovan Kelly etc are huge losses but I'm happy with what I see.  We may need to be patient.
I used to be indecisive but now I'm not too sure.

€15 on the gate (10 for advance) seems like a rip off for a meaningless preseason game.

sligoman2

Sligo up by 4 at the half Roscommon get the big breeze in second half. Encouraging so far

Free takers getting jeered in the FBD is a new one to me I must say.

More penalties lol

The now big two in the West will contest the FBD league final .

James Horan will be bitterly disappointed after making several statements saying they were aiming to win the fbd . Massive test against Roscommon now awaits in 13 days time. Half the goys are pissed up in Prague hanging out of scantily clad women , hard to see them been up to speed for Ros game . We could really struggle this year but that's to be expected I suppose in year one of the rebuild of the mayo way .
