I went for a regular old fashioned there. The farther I get down the glass the better it tastes.
Had a strong Negroni last week. Really re-discovering cocktails at the mo.
Expresso martini only get it at friends house at Halloween! Long Island ice tea to get shit faced... but love a old fashion

I was in the Dead Rabbit in New York last week and had something that was an old fashioned in all but name. Was marvellous.
Also had one in Manchester before where they got the sweetness from filling the glass with candy floss and pouring the cocktail mixture over it to dissolve it. Gimmicky (aren't all cocktails?) but delicious.

I'd switch out the vodka for whiskey and that would go down well.
Big fan of the real cuban Mojitos too - worked for Dillon Bass in Belfast when they brought Havana rum to Ireland for the first time - got some great Mojitos and Cuba Libres from an authentic mixologist
Of a winters night we sometimes make warm apple cider with a shot of fireball in it thought its barely a cocktail?
a well prepared Hot whiskey is still hard to beat
Anyone ever try a buckabu?
Molotov.
I love this one at Christmas time
Hot Butterscotch
50ml whiskey
120-150ml boiling hot water
1 tbsp spiced butter*
● Warm a mug or Irish-coffee cup with boiling hot water. Discard the water. Add the whiskey, boiling hot water and spiced butter. Stir until the butter melts. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.
*To make the spiced butter: combine 250g butter and 250g brown sugar in a mixing bowl with one heaped teaspoon of allspice, one of cinnamon, a small pinch of ground clove and a teaspoon of good vanilla extract. Blend thoroughly with a fork. Press the mixture into a ramekin, or wrap it in cling film and shape into a stick of butter. Refrigerate. This mixture keeps well for two weeks.
You can add whatever spices you like, in fact.

Does a pint of Smithwicks with a Guinness head count?
Am partial to brandy and Baileys, occasionally.
I don't drink cocktails myself, but Cosmopolitans go down very well in our house. Fresh squeezed lime. Vodka, Triple Sec and Cranberry Juice.

The one in the middle I'd say.

What is a 'dash' of salt? I've heard of a pinch of salt, and a dash of juice or whatever, but never a dash of salt?
Apologies, it's early and I haven't had my cocktail yet.
Pinch, dash, shake, grind... whatever floats your lime juice.
It's this much salt: -

That's because gin is f**king amazing. I'm a whiskey drinker but when I was about 20i started drinking G&T on nights out as it was far more refreshing in bars and nightclubs. They're the only two spirits I'd drink really.
Ok so i'm told that i have to try a French Martini, which i have now learned doesnt have martini/gin in it but vodka...

Not just any gin now .. Hendricks gin with a slice of cucumber and elderflower tonic ..
What's your point?
No point , just staying that's the big drink at the moment, I prefer the Gordon's and swepes but I'm old school

Gordon's?! Fancy f**king you. You should be in the cork or London dry if you think roughness of the drink is the mark of its credibility.

Vodka Martini is a good drink and a great dinner starter. I prefer to skip the vermouth and just drink a Dirty Gibson as below
3 parts vodka, one part olive juice. Shake over ice and serve straight up with cocktail onions to garnish. Dirty Martini is the same, just switch out the cocktail onions and replace with olives.

Tanqueray no 10 is a superior gin to Hendricks imho - I think Hendricks is more popular in Ireland due to better marketing and people following trends!

Wish I done the same, instead was on the wine.. I had hoped to use this afternoon to get some much needed sleep but not happening ..current mood FML
I think flavour combinations that work in other recipes are good for cocktails eg lime and Ginger

Irish mist with a wee bit of ice is top notch.
So went and made French Martini's for herself (would be rude not to sample a few myslef too) at the weekend there. Vodka, Chambord, sugar syrup, pineapple juice, raspberries and some squeezed lime juice. Have to say it was tasty. Bit too much effort needed though.
