Title: Roscommon v Down - Dr. Hyde Park [06/03/16]
Post by: Syferus on February 29, 2016, 06:34:41 PM
Critical game for both sides. Our best chance to ensure survival of our four remaining games and one honestly we would have down as our best chance of two points heading into the league. Down will need to win here to have even a faint hope of survival themselves.

I'd expect them to fire everything they have at us, especially after last year. For us we just have to look at games like Laois, Galway, Sligo and Fermanagh to see situations where we followed up champagne stuff with flat Cidona. We made a step in the right direction backing up the Kerry result but it will mean feck all if we don't win start winning the ones we're supposed to be winning as well.

Roscommon will win at a canter, you could put your mortgage on them at -5, we are not anywhere close to div 1 standard as much as it pains me to say it.

Will the Hyde be playable?
On form we should win this but the boggy Hyde might slow us down somewhat.

Down trying to defend a deficit. 14 men back. Hopefully having to break from inside their own HB line will shag them in the second half.

We had chances to put this to bed in the first half but fluffed our lines. Better team but Down will be happier at half time.

Nine points was about right. We were patient in attack and defence but we fluffed chances earlier on to settle the game. Down looked a beaten docket for most of the match. There used to be a sense of adventure in Down's style of football but today was the worst excesses of Ulster blanketball. It was understandable given how far off the pace they've been this year but still it's sad to see such a fine footballing county turn up with that style of football.

We tried to get very defensive in the past ourselves but it's hard to change your heritage. We've found a more high tempo style that suits the players we have now.

Mad that you can have criticisms after winning a D1 game by nine points. Changed times.

We were just middling at best today but should still have been about 17- 8 or so ahead BG the time we got the penalty.
However it's job done, points in the bag and hope we've done enough tokeep our D1 status.
Down were awful though and the pitch was very soft.
Unlike Kiltoom you're allowed to park along the N4 - maybe due to it beinga 50 speed limit.

I was waiting far longer to get out of the industrial park today than I've ever been waiting to get out of the field in Kiltoom.

Barely 2000 at the game today. Easily could have fit iin Kiltoom. If the game goes ahead mid-week in Kiltoom it'll be pushing that number and it will make a complete mockery of the Gardai and any pencil pushers in HQ.

Time we made Elphin our back up County ground. A few seats in the coveredarea, terrace the road side with a roofeen in the middle.
Plenty of roads and streets to park on and pubs and shops.
And it would give Norrh Ros a feeling it is after all part of the County.

Elphin's pitch no where near good enough to be a county ground. Only Strokestown (worse spot than Kiltoom for parking) and Ballintubber (no stand) have surfaces good enough to be considered.

A particular set of results in the remaining games could still see Roscommon relegated on 6 points. Too complex to go into. We could do with at least another point to make sure.

No way should you be playing home games out of the county.
Good win by the Rossies, even if Down are already beaten docket at this stage.
No pressure now.

Love it. Love it. Hammer Cork and Down away from home, beat Kerry in Killarney and the national media hardly notices. Much better than getting plaudits and credit at this time of the year.

Lads, take no notice of the national media. The only thing that matters tonight is the Division 1
league table that has Roscommon on 6 points and in second position behind only the Dubs.,

Will you try to spread that love amongst the loyalists of ballagh , they are threatening a protest outside donnybrook .
