Good win for Vincents over Lomans. Down to 14 men for 50 mins and 3 games in a week we're delighted with the win.

Connolly was a huge loss and will continue to be. Lomans were piss poor though. Had no idea how to use the spare man and with Heslin struggling from frees they had little outlets bar Sharry who put in a decent shift as a third midfielder. Can;t believe Lomans won Westmeath to be honest. Wouldn't make the last 8 in Dublin.

Heslin isn't a full forward anyway.

Fennell, Concaar, Quinn and Diamond were best for us. Hopefully get some rest in for 2 weeks. They will definitely appeal Brennan's red card as it looked harsh. May not get him off.

I'd imagine Summerhill will be a big step up from today. Will be difficult without Connolly and even more if Brennan is missing too.

Dublin were called a bunch of gym monkeys a few weeks back. What does there all-ireland win mean now for the rest of the country and its remaining gym monkeys?

Big game for Dublin. A win will see them into the league final unless Mayo beat Cork. Galway missing some key players but Dublin on the back of a humiliating defeat last weekend.
Hard to know how it will go. Team selection will be interesting.

Can't say I agree with Justin on this one getting rid of half the panel. Its his perogative but you'd wonder whether they have the replacements. i don't know enough about the limerick to know whether they do or not. Getting rid of lucey, o shaughnessy and moran is madness.

Andrew O Shaughnessy accoring to the Limerick Leader has been diagonsed with MS. Just 25- incurable as well. Heart goes out to him. Thats just awful,awful news.

Laois money goes missing

Laois GAA has been left reeling after an auditor's report revealed that EUR42,000 of the county finances are unaccounted for.

Last Monday's night county board meeting in Portlaoise heard the missing money came from three years of unaccounted for ticket sales. Auditor Mark Kirwan examined financial records going back to 2002 and found a gaping EUR42,000 hole in finances up to end of 2004.



The unaccounted for ticket sales were not recorded in the annual accounts of the board and the deficit was written off in 2005 and 2008.

While a Garda investigation has been ruled out, a "shocked" Laois chairman Brian Allen had ordered an internal probe into the mystery shortfall. However, he admitted that it would be difficult to find answers all these years later.

"I was shocked it was written off," he told the Irish Daily Star.

"The biggest problem I had was that it wasn't disclosed to the county convention in 2006 that the money had been written off. There was no mention of a write-off of EUR26,000 that year.

"I was on the executive at the time and I didn't know."

At Monday's meeting, where the Laois county board ironically announced major new sponsorship deals with BW Hire and Gala, former treasurer Tony Walsh admitted that he should have disclosed the shortfall at the time.

Allen claimed that measures have now been put in place to ensure that the situation never arises again.

"People (at the meeting) had questions about the handling of the situation at the time, that we should have had tighter controls basically," he added.

'County Board audits may 'shine light' on manager payments...

Every GAA County Board can expect an audit from the Revenue Commissioners over the next three years.

The move has been prompted, not by the Revenue, but by the GAA itself as it seeks compliance in all matters.

County Board officers from all Leinster counties were summoned to a meeting organised by the Leinster Council last week at which clear indications were given that audits can be expected in every county by 2012.

The audits may 'shine a light' on the alleged payments to inter-county managers which have been a source of irritation for high-ranking GAA officials over the last few years.

Former GAA president Nickey Brennan and Director General Paraic Duffy have both touched on the subject in the last six months.

Brennan described the practice of making under-the-table payments to managers at club level as an "epidemic."

Initiated

Leinster Council secretary, Michael Delaney, said the move was initiated by the GAA, with the Munster Council the first to engage on this basis.

"Munster did it first, then ourselves. It was us (GAA) who brought the officers in to inform them off what to expect," said Delaney.

"People might jump to the conclusion that this has something to do with paying managers, but it is more to do with the coaching and games development staff on the books of provincial councils and at central level.

"From our point of view, we want to make sure we are doing everything right and Revenue will offer us guidelines as to how to go about that.

"Naturally, payments to managers, their expenses and entitlements, will come into it down the line," said Delaney. "As long as County Boards are doing their business properly, there is nothing to fear.

"It is basically an exercise in making everyone get their house in order," he said.

Was down at this yesterday- phenomenal standard of hurling. The u16's of today are even better then the current senior inter county players were at the same stage. Delighted with Dublin's performance and it was great to see Westmeath with so many fine young players.

Any chance Kerry will field their 2nd string lads and give us a chance? It is Lent and all that a time of goodwill.

A GAA study has concluded that there is no scientific evidence to support the use of ice baths as an aid to recovery.

The GAA's Medical and Scientific Committee has also claimed that cryotherapy is equally ineffective in speeding up recovery from injury. Committee member and leading physiotherapist John Murphy said: "The point we are trying to make is that if you get injured, you are injured, and some of those things won't help you to repair the injury."

Sligo team doctor Dr Jim Gillespie said that while ice baths might stop bleeding, he didn't believe that they aided recovery. Former Dublin team doctor Dr Pat Duggan said there was no evidence from a scientific point of view to support the use of ice baths and urged the GAA to call a halt to the practice.

Meanwhile, Dr Duggan warned that more inter-county players will be drug-tested than ever before this year as the Irish Sports Council steps up its anti-doping campaign.


Have to say i only did them in my twlight years and i can honestly say they did work for me. maybe it's different nowadays.

just like to congratulate the dublin u16 hurling team on reaching the all-ireland final yesterday. they were well beaten by an outstanding tipp team in the final but it's more evidence of the sort of talent we have coming through. begs the question as to what the hell happens in tipp to all the players. they have a bigger conveyor belt than kk.

Galway hurling boss Ger Loughnane has moved to rubbish the hype that has surrounded underage county star Joe Canning and says Canning isn't inter-county class right now.

Loughnane says Canning might have starred for Limerick IT in their Fitzgibbon Cup success but Loughnane has described it as a "Mickey Mouse" competition.

"As things stand, it would take Joe at least three months to get in the kind of shape needed to play inter-county hurling," said Loughnane.

"There is no chance of him playing for Galway this year. I watched all of his Fitzgibbon Cup games and he was being pumped up by people despite scoring very little from play.

"This is a Mickey Mouse competition and Joe would be very foolish if he lets winning it go to his head.

"He is way off the pace and listening to ill-deserved praise is going to do him more harm than good.

"I'd be very doubtful, at this stage, if he has what it takes to cut it as an inter-county hurler."
