GAA Discussion / Mayo v Dubs 2 July
June 26, 2023, 05:09:36 PM
What's the story lads. Who's going to win? Paddy Power thinks it's Dublin.

The consensus seems to be that Dublin are a busted flush and they will be exposed as such tomorrow in Nolan Park. That may well happen since they've been dragged out screaming from their cosy citadel of Croker. But sometimes it's dangerous to get what you wish for. The Cork team went home after the drawn 1983 semi-final thinking that they had the replay in Cork already won. as we know it's never that simple.

Anyway win, lose or draw we're well used to all results.

GAA Discussion / Ros v Dubs tomorrow
May 27, 2023, 03:59:13 PM
Tomorrow the Dubs will meet a Division 1 team for the first time since relegation. It will be interesting  to see how that works out. Roscommon will have prepared well for this one and tomorrow's game is wide open.

From a Dub's point of view we'll hope for the best.

GAA Discussion / Des ‘Snitchy” Ferguson RIP
November 03, 2021, 04:14:34 PM

The death has been announced of a legend of Dublin football and hurling – the great Des Ferguson.

Des was member of the St Vincent's club. He won All-Ireland football medals with Dublin in 1958 and 1963. He was also a fine hurler competing in the 1952 and 1961 All Ireland Hurling finals.

During the 1960s Des moved to Kells in Co. Meath and began a long association with Meath GAA through his club Gaeil Colmcille.

Des's son Terry Ferguson won two All Ireland football medals with Meath in 1987 and 1988.

GAA Discussion / Jim Lavin RIP
September 08, 2020, 11:19:54 PM
Gaelic Games has lost a legend with the passing of Jim Lavin the great St. Vincent's hurler and footballer of the 1950s. Jim was a stalwart of the breakthrough Dublin football team of the 50s along with the likes of Kevin Heffernan, Des Ferguson, Danno Mahony and the other giants upon whose shoulders generations of Dublin footballers have stood.

RIP Jim Lavin.

GAA Discussion / Johnny Joyce RIP
November 01, 2019, 11:35:45 AM
Johnny Joyce passed away during the week.

Johnny was part of the great Dublin team of the 1950s and early 1960s that lifted Gaelic football to a prime position in Dublin - a position that it has never since lost. He was also a hero of the great St Vincent's team of that time which contributed so much to Dublin football.

Johnny is probably best remembered as a prolific goal scorer. In the summer of 1960 he scored six goals against Longford in a Leinster championship game (along with three points in the same game).

GAA Discussion / Dublin v Cork 13 July 2019
July 13, 2019, 12:35:50 PM
I'm hoping for the best for the Dubs tonight in Croke Park. Cork seem to be getting their act together again so we'll see how far they've progressed.

The two counties haven't met much in recent years but there's a great history of rivalry between them with All Ireland semifinal meetings in 1974 (which included a cracking goal from the great Anton O'Toole), 1983 (with the memorable replay in Pairc Ui Chaoimh), 1989 (a win for Cork after Keith Barr had been sent to the line), 1995 (with an early goal from nineteen year old Jason Sherlock), 2010 (a one point win for Cork after Dublin had led by five coming into the final quarter).

GAA Discussion / Come on you Boys in Blue .....
May 25, 2019, 11:23:01 AM
For the fourth successive year Dublin will tonight kick off their summer campaign as All Ireland Champions. That's a phenomenal achievement. And no matter how this summer might end this Dublin team will be remembered as one of the greatest ever. They have given Dublin GAA supporters many proud moments and the fruits of their achievements can be seen every weekend across the city when many hundreds of young boys and girls tog out in club grounds across the county.

Good luck tonight lads.

Anton was beautiful player to watch and most importantly he was an absolute gentleman. He has left many great memories for those who watched him at his peak.

In the run-up to the All Ireland final most Dublin schools will be displaying blue banners in support of the county team and many children will be wearing Dublin colours. Does anyone feel that this is acceptable or is it discriminatory towards children of non-Dublin parents?

FAO: Board Administrator

Would it be possible to refer all those who have a gripe about the Dublin County Board, Dublin GAA, the Dublin Football team, the Dublin Hurling Team, Dublin supporters, Jim Gavin, Diarmuid Connolly, Dublin in the Rare Auld Times, Molly Malone etc. to this thread? It might then stop them polluting every other thread in which Dublin is mentioned.

I live in hope.

Can we now expect 40 pages on Brian Cody's altercation with the linesman?

I expect not.

GAA Discussion / Rory O'Carroll for New Zealand
January 03, 2016, 04:57:09 PM
Just heard that Rory O'Carroll will be spending a year in New Zealand and will not be available for Dubs in 2016. That's a big spot to fill on the team.

Great to see these two legends included in the GAA Hall of Fame in the Croke Park Museum. I had the pleasure of seeing both of these men playing on many occasions. For me Jimmy Keaveney was the most important player on one of Dublin's greatest teams. It's probably not generally known but Jimmy Keaveney was also a very accomplished hurler.

GAA Discussion / Davy Byrne

Can anyone explain the stifling omertà which seems to have enveloped the horrific injuries sustained by Davy Byrne before the start of the recent challenge game between Dublin and Armagh?
