I just realised I never ever read the rules of the GAA.

anyhoo, I can see where SammyG is coming from, but its a bit like English common law, ie: really old laws that exist that make no sense anymore but for some reason havent been removed. One example is that An English man can shoot a Welshman with a Crossbow in said Welshman enters an Englishmans land with out permission. Probably made up but i've heard it quoted so often.

But my own personal opinion is that the Basic Aims of the GAA as stated should be changed. It wouldnt hurt, and dont tell me you'd stop playing or watching because the rule book no longer states the following.

Basic Aim
The Association is a National organisation
which has as its basic aim the strengthening of
the National Identity in a 32 County Ireland
through the preservation and promotion of
Gaelic Games and pastimes.

Surely there is no need for that anymore, and i think Sammy has a right to say that it should be changed, I wouldnt say he's a bigot. Its just a small rule a few lines in a book.

It should change and for the sake of making it easier for all people in the North to play our national games why the hell not. Tell me why should this basic aim still exist? what are we keeping it for? what are we protecting it for?? Tell me??

To be fair he could throw a ball through a brick wall, not that it would win you any games but he might have a future in the circus after he gets out of jail.

The only thing Vick ever successfully passed was herpes.

If LT succumbs to the Madden curse the Chargers are goosed.

I thought it was Shaun Alexander?? I heard LT turned down the cover of Madden 08 not wanting to tempt fate.

'08 is Vince Young.

I know i said i though this was most boring sport ever but i'm starting to see the light thanks to NFL 07 on the xbox

Once you figure out the rules and the basic strategy thats involved, i think it makes people realise what a great sport it is. Madden on the Sega Megadrive was what got me hooked on NFL. Cant remember what one it was but it was the first one to have commentating, by that i mean John Madden would shout TouchDown!!! and Incomplete!! and That was a Zinger!! at the appropriate moment.

Micheal Vick is a complete tool. If your the highest paid player in the whole league, can you not find something legal to amuse yourself, Christ sake. his careers over, Matt Schuab come back please. I am a falcons fan, and in one off season ive totally lost hope for any kind of success in the next 10 years. we could be the new Detroit Lions.

Brady Quinn will get a fair bit of game time i think, because i can see him being thrust into it. especially in the later half of the season.

How about "Gods favourite team" the Dallas Cowboys, what you reckon. With Tony "the homo" Romo i think they can have an awesome season, just need something at RB to be really effective.

So who you reckon will land the Vince Lombardi trophy this year. Which rookie will impress, which of last years Rookies will hold a starting position. Which team will improve the most. Who'll get worse. heres a few of my thoughts.

Indy will get to play-offs but no Superbowl, Pats my favs to once again to will it all again. Calvin Johnson and the Lions to finally start going somewhere. Reggie bush to develop into a NFL suited player. Saints to reach play offs again. Falcons to have an awful year, Miami to get worse. The Raiders?? probably. Chargers could also go all the way.

Thats all for now, stay tuned.

QuoteMurphy visits new GAA initiatives for Ulster kids

LESS than a week since Ulster GAA came under the spotlight for alleged sectarian harrassment of a Protestant footballer in Fermanagh, its provincial council is involved in a unique cross-border project in East Belfast's unionist heartland.

The area has just one notable catholic enclave --the North Strand -- yet Ulster Council is running a joint sporting camp there this week with the IRFU and FAI.

The Council has joined forces with the two other big team sports in the camp organised by the Knock Presbyterian, Saintfield Road Presbyterian and St Colmcille's Catholic churches at Ashfield Boys School.

Ulster secretary Danny Murphy visited the project yesterday to make a presentation on the history of the GAA.

"We want to reach out to communities that have tended not to involve themselves in our games and we will over the next few months launch a range of initiatives to progress this important work," Murphy said.

"It's good to note that a range of community groups and organisations are working in partnership with us in some new and exciting ways and the GAA wants that to continue," he added.

Ulster GAA Development Officers in all codes -- including Armagh and Tyrone stars Diarmaid Marsden and Ryan Mellon -- have joined with Glentoran's Michael Halliday and Ulster rugby scrum-half Paul Marshall to coach local children throughout the week which will conclude with an ultimate sports tournament, combining all three codes.

These silly accusations are gonna get yis nowhere lads its pot-kettle-black, it seems to me. Its pretty simple let all games be played in all schools. thats it, period. Catholic or Prodestant, who cares. The worst thing would be to pass on this generations ridiculous bigottry on to the next generation. Let the kids decide to play what they like and enjoy the most and facilitate them to best of our powers with what ever resources are available.

No more "why should we if you dont" your wasting your time lads if your gonna keep that shite up.

 8) I had a bloody great time, tried to get in to some of the unfamiliar songs such as the ones that Keith sang, but i think people forget that the stones are a bluesy kind of band that like to jam on things and i guess some people might not be to interested in hear keith and Ronny start jamming together but being a guitarist i enjoyed it immensly.

Of course we all came to hear the hits and when they were great. Hightlights for me were Tumbling Dice, Midnight Rambler, Miss You, and of course Jumpin Jack Flash. Great rendition of Jamews Browns I'll Go Crazy, totally unexpected, great.

PS: AC/DC FOR SLANE '08, there would be no complaints form the casuals if this becomes a reality, best live band EVER!!

GAA Discussion / Re: Do culchies deserve respect ?
August 14, 2007, 09:22:54 PM
Oh, god.

I must have been the only culchie supporting dublin against mayo last year.

This amazing thread full of genius i might add is based on 2 generalisations.

1. that all culchies are backwater hicks, that marry their cousins and mate with their flocks of sheep, wear wooly jumpers, smell, dont have ESB, toilets etc...joe dolan fans, irish dancing, turf footing boggers,
Ultimately and inevitably this is not true.

and 2. that all dubs are urban dwelling thugs, wearing champion sports, shaved heads with the fringe(you know the look), up to thier eyes in cocaine, heroin etc... knife carrying, do the skanger walk, how'yis, hoop earings, sovereign ring wearing, teenage preggers, shard'en curly's up da pole, types.
this believe it or not is also not true.

now can we end this nonsensical waste of a thread and get back to talk about the real issues such as'

What do you like with your tea?
Biscuit or Cake??

It was a fantastic game in terms of excitment but yes there were a considerable amout of mistakes but i enjoyed it alot. Best of luck to Limerick in the final, ill be rooting for them all the way. it was a physical game alright but i wouldnt say much of it was that dirty.

What annoys me is that this is only kerrys 3rd game, its silly, i said it before and ill say it again, even out the provences. have 9 in one provence and 6 in another is stupid, could someone please tell me why they dont change it. Tradition is not a valid rason.

Good game today hard luck to Monaghan poor shooting and poor decision making with the ball let them down today. Kerry look vunerable but still awesome in some cases especially the O'Se's. Dublin have their best chance to beat them.

Not going to happen. Beckham will need to be absolutely legendary to make a difference. He is getting stupid amounts of money and if he cant justify that the public will turn on him in a second.

Anyway who cares with Sky now showing more NFL games than ever and the Giants and Dolphins could have sold wembley out 5 times over its a bloody great time to be a football fan on this side of the Atlantic.
