Trump gets another Supreme Court Pick-Kennedy retiring

Just heard Chris Matthews-he's apoplectic 😤

Well yeah... the stolen Supreme Court seat has left this rather significant don't you think?

We've ploughed this ground before

Garland should have been given a hearing, but the Democrats own behavior under prior Republican  administrations is partly to blame for McConnell getting away with it

Which Republican Supreme Court nominee did a Democratic Senate deny a vote to?

They strongly advocated it TWICE under 2 separate Republican presidents.

Well researched insightful post.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

You commented that Matthews was upset. I said why it was justified.

And rhetoric/words are not the same as action. The GOP is the party who followed through. They've set the precedent. It will bite THEM on the arse in the future. Who knows WHERE the threshold will end up now? Will a vacancy be even considered after the midterms in future when the senate is in opposition control?

But yeah, we've probably covered this before.

You obviously trust the Democrats much more and than I do

From my vantage point they absolutely would have blocked a Republican  nominee had an opening arise

They didnt, but (imho) given the rhetoric employed especially by Schumer among others they would have in a heartbeat (no pun intended)

It's not about trust.

It's about brazenness and balls and passion and enthusiasm.

One side has it. The other doesn't. The Dems are complete wimps when it comes to this type of shit. There is no way in hell Schumer would have pulled that stunt. It would have been like 2000 and the Florida recounts with GOP activists and congressional aides picketing and protesting and their supporters fomented by Fox and Limbaugh and Breitbart and the rest.

Here is the Biden quote.

""Mr. President, where the nation should be treated to a consideration of constitutional philosophy, all it will get in such circumstances is a partisan bickering and political posturing from both parties and from both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. As a result, it is my view that if a Supreme Court Justice resigns tomorrow, or within the next several weeks, or resigns at the end of the summer, President Bush should consider following the practice of a majority of his predecessors and not — and not — name a nominee until after the November election is completed.""

He was not going to block a hearing or a vote. He said clearly that if a vacancy arose then Bush should get to nominate a replacement.

No. The Republicans got rid of the rule that it required 60 votes to overcome a filibuster of a Supreme Court nominee last year to get Gorsuch confirmed.

Most since the Great Depression.? For f**k's sake.
Wages went up by over 5% a year in the 50s
Trump said the tax cuts would generate growth of 3 to 4% per year.
Now the OBR estimates max 1.9%.
Why? Because all the money goes to the rich who are riding everyone else.
