Quote from: snoopdog on April 14, 2024, 08:56:34 AM20 pound in to watch that is crazy money. No wonder only 4k turned up. There was a but of a buzz last year, that's gone now. Same old souls turning uo in hope that it will change. But what do you do? Do we have the footballers? Armagh took a longtime to get to where they are today under McGeeney. We need to stick with it,  i thought when Laverty started he needed 5 years, and I still believe that. You don't come from such a low starting point to being competitive with the likes of Armagh,Monaghan, roscommons etc overnight, unless you have a good foundation. Down hadn't won anything at any level since 2009 before Laverty came in. Our size is a major issue though. Has been for years. I'd be happy with a 5 point defeat to Armagh. We have little or no chance, and if we play like we did last night it's a thumping in the kip clones again.

The only way Down will get better is by playing in Div. 2, against better teams, for a year or two.  Then try to get up to Div. 1.

No point in looking for one-off victories in thr championship.

All about moving up the levels and improving the panel via the league.

100% right. Ironically McCorry basically got the road for saying this in a post match interview after Wexford put us out of the championship.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on April 05, 2024, 03:44:38 PMThe board could have thrown up a lot more marriages over the years but being predominantly male arseholes (obviously not Watcher pat) it probably turned off the female GAA heads out their.

How do we make the board more inclusive? Not too many threads for the ladies, which, considering so many clubs are nearly half and half with the teams seems strange enough or the pattern of social media here isn't much craic lol

Sub-board for ladies football & camogie discussion under the hurling sub-board.

Great ending

You get tackled like that 10 times a game, no idea what he's reacting to.

Quote from: nrico2006 on March 18, 2024, 05:58:52 PMAlways been stupid. A league with 7 games and there is a final for top 2. Be understandable if there were 20 games, but not enough teams in the divisions for this setup. Plus you see teams who are near the relegation zone in the penultimate week and nearly make the final by the next.

The flip side to this is that since we only play each other once in the league, there is no chance to redeem yourself from a "slip". The league final provides that for the 2 most consistent teams in that league perhaps?

I quite like the Div 1 league finals, but at the lower divisions, promotion is the prize imo and not a league title.

What about doing something drastic? Maybe league winners get a bye in the first round of their provincial championship and don't make the championship draw until the league has finished.
That would give some real value to the Div2/3/4 winners in particular.

The AI structure now does give weight to league positions but maybe not enough?

Or we just leave it as is. For some teams the only realistic chance of winning a competition, or getting to play in Croke park is a league final and that might be their priority.

Could just seed the provincial draws based on final league position. The difference between 3rd & 4th seed could change the chances of a provincial final (and subsequent all Ireland seeding), and simultaneously helps ensure that inadequate teams don't take up a San Maguire spot because a lopsided provincial draw gifted them a run to the final.

Probably could have been at the maintenance a few years ago!

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on February 03, 2024, 09:42:10 PMIt was a free, very clever one and he played for it.Minute the man put his hands out on his back, Mayo lad went down.

You could see the free coming before the players even reached the ball. Any county player in that position is going to bend over the ball, slow up a second to try and invite contact, and go down as soon as they feel it. And get the free every time, because you can't push a player as they're bending over the ball.

Newcastle have had a good few injuries recently, especially to key players.

Plus the European run hasn't helped them in that respect.

It'll ahow Howe where they stand panel wise and the level they need to get to.

No comparsion with Man Utd in my opinion.

Square this circle for us please

The obvious answer is that its easier to find someone who is not from ireland in dublin these days than it is to find an irish man lol

Nonsense to start with and every bar, restaurant or cafe in the city would fold without their labour anyway as the scrotes thieving from stores last night won't (or can't) do that sort of work.

While a conversation has to be had around treatment of crime and values in this country, from foreigners and our own born & bred, immigrants have had an overall net positive in Dublin and made it a far more interesting, diverse and open minded city.

Final will be a stop start game with the ref afraid of losing control given the high profile nature of the current scandal and recent history of the two teams involved.

Quote from: NormPeterson on September 22, 2023, 03:00:16 PMMany of the people watching the rugby world cup are the same types who complain about GAA bandwagoners watching the All Ireland football championship. So tell me, are all you Irish rugby fans involved in local grassroots rugby? Sure you shouldn't be watching the Ireland international team if you don't go out and coach your local u-10s by your own logic.

As long as the U10 rugby coaches get tickets ahead of the bandwagonners, then what's the issue?

Agree every team has them. Kilcoo are just high profile team at the minute and any incident gets a lot of attention. The carryduff kilcoo wasnt a dirty game. A good game by 2 good teams.

In the last 12 months, 3 clear videos have been shared of their t***pish antics... Burren, Carryduff with Brannagans cheapshot (and ran away), and now next example on Monday night.

Carryduff were the aggressors on Monday night and when Kilcoo upped it they couldn't live with them, Burren and Kilcoo were both guilty in last years match but we won't talk about Burren

Poor Kilcoo, every club they ever play against from about U16 up instigates stuff against them.
