Another game in which the team will have loads of regrets, a purple spell for Galway at the end of the first half ultimately left us with too much to do in the second half.

Great effort from players to try and claw back the deficit and only for some really poor wides we could've done, Galway were definitely rattled at one stage.

Odhran Murdock is some footballer and would get on to any team in Ireland. Hopefully we can add to the panel for next year and keep building.

Brilliant to see another big crowd in Newry, these players and management have put the pride back in the jersey again.

Good performance from Down today unfortunately just came up short at the end. Thought ref was harsh enough on us a few times, missed an obvious touch on the ground for their goal and moved the ball forward 50 metres for a beggan 2 pointer in first half when the ball was knocked out of haverns hand as he was attempting to give it back. Odhran Murdock also got very little protection from the officials and seemed to have players hanging off him on every kick out.

In a game of small margins the breach of 3 back near the end proved costly giving Beggan an easy 2 pointer and put Monaghan 4 up (another stupid rule, a free on half way line would surfice for that).

Thought we played well for most of the match and on another day could've got a result. No need to fear whoever we get next week in Newry.

On rte website all 8 games are scheduled for Sat 14, with the hurling on Sunday. I'd have thought 2 groups play their games on Sat, and other 2 groups play on Sunday. Obviously the final 2 games in each group start at the same time.
from gaa website, all games scheduled for 14/15th with times and venues tbc.

Brilliant win, second half we really had to dig in when it looked like Louth had all the momentum.

We struggled at times to get a grip at midfield, Daniel Guinness was a big miss but some big performances got us over the line, Odhran Murdock especially was great when he got on the ball.

Great block at the end by Crimmins, real match saving block. The win guarantees Down a home preliminary quarter final at the least and we can go into the Monaghan game with a free hit at getting to the quarter final.

Great to see pairc esler buzzing again.

Was at the league game in Drogheda and there wasn't much between the teams that day, I'd expect another close one this weekend. Louth ending up winning that game by a point but Down definitely would've felt they deserved something.

Hopefully the home venue will swing things in Down's favour this time round. Expecting a big crowd for this one.
Bookies have Down favourites at 8/13, Louth 13/8, Draw 8/1

Quote from: Truthsayer on May 17, 2025, 06:43:44 PMHuge win for the Dubs.. rule changes vindicated again. Epic. Is football the new hurling?
so there was never any good games before the rule changes?

Dublins demise has been greatly exaggerated, they haven't gone away, big win.

Great win for the hurlers, gives a chance of avoiding relegation from Joe mcdonagh cup.

Minor footballers however beat by Leitrim on penalties in their first game in the tier 2 competition, a terrible result for this group of players and management
