On the hurling side of the house -

Ross Young GDA/ Brian Ging & Martin O Connell looking after S&C

Hurling & Gym based in Centre of Excellence

U14 Management - Trevor Moore, Seamus Dwyer, Brendan Lowry, Robert Delaney, Shane Cahill, David Sheeran, Eric Killeen

Carrying 50 players, organisation & training is top class, I would say credit to Keegan here his first management team to recruit.
Was present at their presentation to parents, excellent
Have beaten North Tipp & Westmeath recently

U15 Management - David O Mahoney, Brendan Phelan, Johnny Holland, Cathal Brophy & Aaron Whelan, a little later to get going and fill these roles, carrying approx 36 on panel, have beaten Westmeath & Meath recently

U16 / Celtic Challenge Management - Brian Flanagan, Pat Kirby, Noel Kavanagh, plus one more
With this team since u14, panel smaller at present as 8-10 of the stronger u16 on minor panel & weaker minors back training with this panel.

U17 - Glen McEvoy, Dermot McGill, Ger Cuddy, Mark Dunne,
Training hard, suffered three serious injuries to three main players, despite that some decent results recently, beat a Wexford team last Saturday, playing Kildare in first round on Saturday week the 23rd.

Best of luck to all!

We've sacked both our hurling coaches in the past three weeks, Connolly & Horgan, doesn't reflect  well on the Manager bringing in these coaches.

Need to get it sorted fast, could be hard get a quality coach at this time of year .

Two wins but two underwhelming performances, bigger test Saturday evening.

Was lucky enough to be at a Laois Hurling academy parents morning last Saturday,
Presentations from Shane Keegan and managers of each
County 16 & 15s squads continuing their gym work from last year, panels finalised with plenty of new lads on board which is great see it's not a closed shop, struggling to attract / finalise management teams

U14s trial process finished and panel picked,
excellent presentation and management team

Football trials just concluded last weekend also, panels tbc

New games manager bringing good energy around the squads good to see

Because the usual happened as with all Academy squads,
The job is advertised / emails sent out - Anyone interested and no one decent is head hunted for these jobs,
Similar with the 20s I believe Carter was the only applicant,

It was put forward last year, proposed by Castletown and backed by all hurling clubs but the County Secretary scared people away from it over fixtures congestion

Think it would be a good thing to have 10 Senior teams

Agreed on the poor form,

It looks like a case of too much too early for that team of players, won all underage and unable to figure out winning / seeing out / turniing up for big days in 2013, 19,20 and letting 21 slip has finally broken them mentally with the losses of Joe Campion and Patrick Whelan also.
Dont think theres politics at play or any fear of a break up, too far down the road for that

Camross should see them off easily, I do think they'll have enough to see off The Harps

Camross seemed to have reinvented themselves this year, RE with a decent second team supporting top team and CB not gone away yet with Dunphy to come back on board

Predictions -
Camross Semis on one side Rathdowney Errill on other,

CB V Castletown one quarter
Abbeyliex v Rosenallis the other

Camross v Clough Ballacolla
Rathdowney Errill v Rosenallis again

Rathdowney Errill v Clough Ballacolla

Rathdowney Errill

Poor games all weekend again,
Harps & Ballacolla prob the most entertainment even tho result was sorted early

Rathdowney Errill moving well but this is the norm for them at these stages, bigger tests to come,

Camross done what they had to do today, Abbeyleix very spirited, worked very hard, just probably lacking the real quality forward to hurt teams
Mossy Keyes an absolute joy to watch

Borris Kilcotton the biggest story of the weekend, atrocious performance, gutless & spineless against a poor Castletown team missing some of their best players.

This crew of players have choked on so many occasions,

Their underage set up is probably one of the best in the county with a lot of work being done, but this guarantees no success,  especially now with the gap from 17 to adult hurling,
The Harps, huge juvenile success, no adult success,

Rathdowney Errill and Camross show the joys and successes of maturing later, without much success, leads to adult success, BK won everything on the way up easily, but it takes more to win and win consistently at adult than talent alone.
Character, commitment, consistency ..

At the moment it's RE favs, CB second, Camross third imo,
BK to just about survive and get by The Harps, maybe ..

Camross looked sharp in first game but Castletown were very poor

Rathdowney Errill Clough Ballacolla never came to life after the heavy rain at start of game, both sets of forwards poor on the night apart from Ross King, who was the difference.

€10 in for each game, a page for a programme, no team / change announcements, no injury / extra time indicated by officials

We are gone so far backward in the last few years at academy squad level, minor down, with last year being an exceptional minor team.

It's back to the days of lads who can't get a job in the clubs putting their hand up for academy coaching roles, being left without any guidance and picking their club players,

No pathway or targets being set or delivered, we desperately need a good director of hurling with vision and knowledge of how to deliver, is this the hurling boards job to implement / deliver ?

Maybe the Camogie deserves its own thread , but seen our ladies were bet by Cavan today, that seems a particular poor result ?
Are things on the camogie side going poorly, we are Junior level inter county now I think, having being relegated
