McLoughlin is as big a loss as the two seniors. A quality midfielder.

A real pity he's missing significant time at such an important stage of his development. Wasn't he actually training with the senior squad for a period last autumn, not long gone 18? Probably as exciting a prospect Galway have had for quite a while. Hopefully he'll see the field again shortly.

It does affect other teams also, but if you'd have picked 3 footballers not to miss out for this side in particular it'd have been Kelly, Sweeney and McLaughlin. It's probably the difference between being a solid team and being the favourites for the All Ireland. They'll be doing very well to progress

I assume McLaughlin is training with the seniors as he was with the rest of the panel members at the Roscommon game, he's still only 18. A huge loss though for this evening, he's some talent.

Galway very hot favourites tonight which I find odd given the quality of the 3 lads their missing. Galway won the last 5 at 20/21 level over Mayo, their definitely due a win.

Wasn't McLaughlin, Paul Kelly missing for the All-Ireland semi final last year and still bet Kerry. I think 14 of that Galway starting team was either starters in u20 final last year or in All-Ireland minor finals 2018/19. Conall Gallagher  the one that wasn't as he was a minor last December.

Oisin Tunney, Heneghan and Paul Walsh are notable absentees for Mayo.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Whilst agreeing that those 3 are massive losses - I would say though that Culhane would probably be the biggest loss of all (if he had come on against Ros). Purely in terms of him being the chief score getter in the team from both play and frees.
This game could go either way much like last years game in Castlebar.
I saw Mayo midfielder Jack Carney playing for his club last year (had never heard of him at that time) and he stood out to me as a potential future senior down the road. Very stylish midfielder who can kick a score.

Will be interesting tonight, Mayo manager Maurice Sheridan is a teacher in Claregalway and involved with Salthill-Knocknacarra for years. Was a penalty shootout win for Galway last year v Mayo and they then went on to win it out beating Kerry and Dublin in semi and final respectively. Pity TG4 aren't showing tonight, can be viewed on Connacht GAA Twitter page links.

Galways U20 team to play Mayo in the Connacht semi final. It contains 9 of their All-Ireland winning team from last year plus a few others that played in minor All-Ireland finals in 2018/19.

1. Conor Flaherty (Claregalway GAA)
2. Jonathan McGrath (Caherlistrane GAA)
3. Eoghan Geraghty (Oranmore/Maree GAA Club)
4. Ruairi King (Naomh Feichin Clifden Gaa)
5. Cian Ó hIarnáin (CLG Bhearna)
6. Tony Gill (c) (CorofinGAA)
7. Dylan Brady (Corofin)
8. Conor Raftery (Glenamaddy GAA Club)
9. Conall Gallagher (St Michaels GAA Club)
10. Alan Greene (Oranmore/Maree)
11. Warren Seoige (Cumann Peile Naomh Anna)
12. Ryan Monahan (Oughterard GAA / LGFA)
13. Donal Mac An Choiligh (Cumann Peile Mhaigh Cuilinn)
14. Tomo Culhane (Salthill Knocknacarra GAA Club)
15. Matthew Cooley (Corofin)

The Mayo team will be published tomorrow at 12.

Still a very decent team on paper although they've lost two very good eligible players in Paul Kelly and Cathal Sweeney who have already played for the seniors this year. Actually I don't see James McLaughlin either so wonder if he's injured?

Named on the bench

Manning18

Who are the Mayo folk most excited about, outside of Irwin?

Interestingly the Galway hurlers great white hope at the moment, Diarmuid Kilcommins, is also named on the bench. The second of two dual players, with the goalkeeper Flaherty also lining out for the hurlers in their u20 clash a couple of weeks back

Should have been a penalty there for Galway for a push on the back on Gill as he took a shot on goal. Caused him to mishit it completely. Somehow both commentators (and the ref) seemed to miss it.

HT Galway 0-3 Mayo 0-2. A contest whereby both have a strong focus on defending and possession football thus far, the game might open up more 2nd half?

Quite poor really from two sides who should be two of the better teams in Ireland. Lots of basic errors

Do they ever cut the grass in Tuam? It's not helping matters.

You'd want to be some complete sad case to be loudly jeering an underage young fella kicking a wide, as happened with Culhane twice there. In a stadium with 500 people to boot

An Fhairche Abu

Steaming quality is as poor as the match.
