Seeing as the host county supporters are non existent or just can't be bothered to start the thread, somebody has to do it.

Table topping Donegal doing purgatory time in Div 2, against a Monaghan team who have just had a couple of soft warm up league games. Hard to tell if we are ready for this game which makes it interesting  - meeting a credible team in demonstrably good form.
Usually we beat Donegal, it's one of those inexplicable mysteries of life. Long may that tradition continue.

Hard to know how it will.go. As you say, we have a horrendous record against Monaghan, although last year was down to Donegal basically being on autopilot by that stage and not having anything to offer when Monaghan hit them like a ton of bricks out the gate. That and McFadden having a nightmare in front of the posts. Had we met you the previous two years, it would probably have been different, but that's the way it goes. We've a wonderful record against Tyrone, partly because we mostly avoided them in the 2000s! Vice versa with Armagh.

Main Street

We don't chose when we meet.
Monaghan also played much better football in that Ulster final, not just hit Donegal with the force of a ton of bricks.
Only on one occasion in 2008 was it close, late on in that game there was a bizarre piece of refereeing,  giving a decision to Monaghan when it looked to one and all that the Donegal player was impeded/fouled. The heavy hand of fate can indeed be cruel.

It would appear that there is no cause for alarm, no need to lock up your daughters or board up the shopfronts in Letterkenny, Monaghan are quite tame these days. We are the mormons of GAA football, law abiding participants of the game.
Dick Clerkin has been lobotomised and Dessie Mone is held back by 2 leashes.

Sorry, I was more talking about your whirlwind start to the game than any physical issue. You played us off the park that day and we were probably even a little flattered by the scoreline. 2008... Them things happen. We've had tight  games go our way too on a dodgy call.

babarino

I don't recall the 2008 game. Was that the championship qualifier in Ballybofey?

Maguire01

Yep - and Rory Woods was in flying form.

Wasn't that the second time we caused McIver to quit?

Main Street

I'd say in 2008 we even had Brian Roper banging his head against the dressing room wall.
Probably that dressing room has a fair few dents in the wall.

If you hadn't beaten us, McIver wouldn't have quit (for the second time), Jim McGuinness wouldn't have been laughed out of the interview with the county board, John Joe Doherty wouldn't have got the opportunity to prove he wasn't remotely up to the job, the way wouldn't have been cleared for Jim to this time go for the job unopposed (after fine-tuning his dastardly plans with the U-21s) and we wouldn't have two more Ulster titles  and a second All Ireland!  :P

No need. The events you set in motion culminated in a Donegal 2013 hangover and Monaghan Ulster title! :P

Captain Obvious

Over the last few years Monaghan are near unbeatable in the league at home however away from home almost anyone can beat them.

So you fancy Armagh's chances against us? Or is that an Obvious question?

I do and Armagh will need to win their home games to stay up.

So regardless of our record against Donegal, you clearly don't fancy our chances against them in the upcoming Letterkenny fixture. We're shite when we're not in Clones...

Well, Donegal were good enough to beat a hyped up Tyrone in the 1st round last year. Similar scoreline as the 2012 game.
That would suggest that the so called (oft repeated) hangover excuse is a crock :)
Monaghan just inflicted such a total and  humiliating defeat in the Ulster final that Donegal were without a morsel of credibility left, though they could glide through the final qualifier, but were a beaten docket in Croke Park.

We tend to give Meath a wake up call, but we tend to put Donegal to the sword.
