Both teams on a rich vein of form, only needing a point to secure a semi final spot. Both teams recorded fine victories on their travels last weekend and will be keen to keep the momentum going.

Enjoying the football this last month, great to have a game every weekend.

GAA Discussion / NFL Division 1 2013
February 11, 2013, 12:00:28 PM
No general thread open for division 1 yet so thought i'd get one started. Here's the league table after two games:

http://www.gaa.ie/fixtures-and-results/league-tables/

Biggest talking point so far has to be the two Munster teams sitting on zero points, closely followed by Kildare and Tyrone's fast start to the year. Kudos to Kildare and Tyrone for gaining their points 'on the road.'

Dublin already appear to mean business this year, however,  it's hard to be certain as many of the teams are in different stages in relation to their conditioning.

Three week break now, no doubt there will be some heavy slogs ahead at training.

Dublin v Mayo is the standout fixture in the next round as well as some championship shadow boxing between Tyrone and Donegal in Omagh.

General discussion / Parcel Delivery to Poland
September 12, 2012, 10:33:21 AM
Looking for a bit of help here. I had to send quite a large package to Poland and used DPD, however, I just fpund out that their UK depot has held the package as it's oversized. They are looking an extra £93 on top of the original £40 fee to send it on. Does anyone know of any alternative freight or courier companies who could send it on for a better price? The dimensions are 80x71x55 and it's 28kg.

Cheers in advance.

Going to be up turning the turf this weekend and would be looking to skulk off and catch a bit of the fudball. I'm banned from the Shepard's Rest for bothering sheep on Easter Monday and I haven't been allowed through McCrae's doors since I had a cut at the landlord's aul doll. My last resort would be Eddie's but I couldn't be arsed listening to Ziggy going on about the women he pulled in Sally's the night before. PM me if you live close by and you've a spare seat in front the TV.

So with Monaghan and Derry through to the semi finals, Down and Fermanagh are up next. I'm assuming that Down will be favourites, although Fermanagh will have a large contingent of Mac Rory winners on board.

I'd imagine Tyrone are overall favourites following their league triumph.

Any word of teams for this weekend?

GAA Discussion / Kerry v Tipp - 27/05/12 - MSFC
May 26, 2012, 12:38:40 PM
Don't see a thread for this.

Kieran Donaghy will start on the bench for Kerry in their Munster SFC opener against Tipperary on Sunday. Reports on Friday claim that Donaghy has been dropped for disciplinary reasons after attending the Champions League soccer final.

Patrick Curtin gets his chance to impress when he starts at No 15, with Declan O'Sullivan alongside him at full-forward.

Daniel Bohan comes in at full-back for the injured Marc Ó Sé, who has a small tear in his hamstring. Peter Crowley lines out at No 7 for his first Championship outing.

Kerry XV v Tipperary in Munster SFC quartrer-final at Semple Stadium on Sunday, 27 May at 2.00pm:

B Kealy; S Enright, D Bohan, K Young; T O'Se, E Brosnan, P Crowley; A Maher, B Sheehan; P Galvin, Darran O'Sullivan, K O'Leary; C Cooper, Declan O'Sullivan, P Curtin.

What is the story with Donaghy ? Surely this is a bit extreme unless he missed a training camp or challenge game and lied about where he was?

GAA Discussion / Ulster U-21 Championship 2012

Apologies if there already is a thread started, cant access the search function on the phone. Anyway, first game of the year tomorrow night down in brewster park. Im sure we are big favourites for this game but the way we've been playing at u-21 this last few years you can never be sure (barring last year where we met a very good Cavan side). Can any of our Fermanagh posters give us an insight into your team this year? Who are the men we need to look out for? Anyone have any odds for the overall championship?

So after a three week break with no football we're on our second game in 6 days. Eight wins on the bounce and it appears the bedding in process is going well, with the new guys stepping up and producing the goods. Pete Harte already looks like the real deal and could be our main man for years, I'm sure we'll see a shuffling of the forward pack, although the defence is picking itself at the minute. I wonder will Sean Cav get his first start? Unlikely though as Mickey appears to be edging him back bit by bit.

Westmeath pulled off a bit of a shock versus Galway which will hopefully guard against any complacency from ourselves. As far as I can remember this is the first time we've have met since the 08 qualifiers when Dessie nearly nicked it at the ends for the midlanders.

Anyway, here's hoping we can bag another 2 points and consolidate our place at the top of the division.

GAA Discussion / Kildare v Derry

Lump on Kildare. There's no hope of Derry getting their heads right in 6 days after the disaster today.

Delighted with the home draw and pleased with the opposition, whether it will be Armagh or Wicklow. Both teams will be hard to beat and if Armagh come through it will add a bit of spice to the occasion, Healy park full to the brim would be some occasion!

No point hoping for a poor(er) team at this stage, you want to be upping the ante each game. The extra weeks rest should help the likes of SoN, Hub, Swift and Justy recover further from their respective knocks.

No point getting ahead of ourselves but whichever of the three teams advance will be content with the losers from Mayo/Ross. Another tough game but winnable all the same.

So first 'proper' game of the year, both teams with 3 wins out of 3 and will be keen to keep their 100% records intact. This time last year Tyrone were on a roll but an unfancied Derry side beat them fairly convincingly.

No point in trying to predict starting 15 as it's still all very experimental. Haven't been able to make any games yet due to clashes with work but from radio coverage and reports here some of the new lads have put their hands up for a starting place, particularly Girvan. Some old hands seem to have started the year well, great to see/hear that BMcG is getting plenty of game time and getting on the score sheet.

Where are the lads from colleges going to figure? Have been some excellent performances. Anyone know if Mattie Donnelly will make himself available this year?

General discussion / Tax Over/Under Paid
November 02, 2010, 03:33:07 PM
Just received a letter in the post this morning from HMRC informing me that I owe them £351 due to underpaid tax.

I work a second job on average one or two days a month every 2 or three months and noticed earlier in the year that I was being taxed very little from this pay cheque. I contacted the tax office to notify them of this and the boy I was talking to told me that he would contact the employer (Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital) and sort it out. Now nothing changed in the intervening time so I presumed that all was in order and maybe I wasn't earning enough to be taxed on this pay.

Now that I got this letter this morning I realise the person I was talking to earlier in the year did fcuk all about it and now I have to pay back the £351 in extra tax starting from April 2011. There is a sub point in the documents sent with the letter saying that if the employer didn't take reasonable care in operating the tax code then they are liable for the tax deficit.

If anyone has a better insight into the tax system  than I do, do they think I have a decent case for not having to pay back the extra tax?

General discussion / Proudest moment of your life
October 18, 2010, 11:20:38 PM
My Fiance is 21 weeks pregnant and on Saturday night I felt my youngster kick for the first time. I'v never felt an emotion like it, I actually felt sick in my stomach I was that excited. Really brings home the fact that there is a living person inside there and no matter how many scans you go to or books you read, actually feeling the wee scitter kick/prod you makes it finally seem so real.

*cough* *cough* Need to restore some masculinity here I think. I also scored the winner against Kesh 3rds playing for my football team in the semi-final of the reserve cup in the fermanagh and western league a couple of years ago. Mickey mouse cup in a mickey mouse league but by fcuk it felt like I scored the winner in the champions league final!

General discussion / A Clucking Disgrace!
August 31, 2010, 04:18:48 PM
The loughshore communities feathers will be ruffled with the news that a new incinerator is given the go-ahead in their midst. This company wont be counting their chickens just yet for there's sure going to be plenty of crowing from the locals. However, the local economy will be given a real roost with 30 permanent jobs for the area.

Are you tempted to drop the teaching for a new career path Shane?

- No matter how many times you shake after a piss a bit still leaks out and leaves a wet patch on your boxers

- you actively seek out the weather forecast

- you begin to fret that you can't jive and at family parties as aunts/grans etc think you're a legitimate target when the band plays a bit of declan nearney.

- you lose touch with current music

- you make a noise when getting out of the sofa/bed/car etc

- you find yourself tutting when you see young un's entering or leaving nightclubs

Anyone want to add anything to this list feel free...

General discussion / Sciatica
July 13, 2010, 11:30:25 PM
Was at the doctors last week and have been diagnosed with sciatica. For past two weeks I have been in agony all down my right buttock, hamstring, behind my knee and calf muscle and any time I stand up after sitting for more than a minute I get pins and needles down my right side from lower back to my big toe.

Was wondering if anybody here has experienced it or has any recommendations on easing the symptoms.

The pain hasn't been too bad since seeing the doctor as he has given me a pile of voltorol and co-codamol but dying to get back doing some exercise, however I don't want it flaring up again.
