Laois / Re: The Future for Laois Football

All money needs to be removed from the Dubs now. I see their money is being cut and C**tello is already out crying the poor mouth.

They've been financially doped for 19 years now and their money should be removed in total and distributed amongst the 10 smallest counties. This could be used to offer a deeper discount to those 10 counties, allowing clubs easier access to GPOs.

The gap between the top & bottom has to be closer than it is.

Re Laois football, if we were sending our 9th team into Leinster intermediate instead of our 17th and our 17th into the Junior, instead of our 25th (or lower).....we'd start making waves in those competitions.

Laois football not in good condition. As long as we persist with 16 "senior" teams, we're only kidding ourselves.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating and we see it in Sigerson Cup squads now. Hardly any Laois footballers in a vastly expanded competition.

Our clubs are barely winning a round in Leinster competitions any more. Did Wexford reset their championships? Suddenly, they're in Leinster finals now?!?

As long as we continue with this deluded horsesh!te, we'll never improve. We need to go to all eights all the way down to whatever level of Junior we have to. If it needs to be tweaked in a few years, then do it, but for God's sakes, it needs to be fixed now.

Big Killeshin Crowd at match silence was eerie at the end of the game, I realize Portlaoise support is small but that was a poor show.  Thought Rogers could have been used earlier but anyway.

Eerie is the word. The crowd applauded a small bit, then just left. I'd say there were around 150 people remaining when Portlaoise were lifting the cup. Astonishing really. 21,000 people in the parish and that's their support???

I thought I had predicted a dead-cat bounce for them back in 2016, but I didn't. I thought they were back in the pack after Stradbally won, but they resumed their winning ways. I think the county needs a shake-up. New clubs HAVE to emerge to start winning the senior title and with Portlaoise's (relatively) poor showing in underage football, they should drop back and we can have a football championship with 3/4/5 possible winners. Wouldn't that be great?

Interesting points made by Billy O'Loughlin. Too many clubs in the county.

Fixed that for you.

Rathdowney/Errill mightn't lose too many players to their seniors.
I do think it's down to the four second teams unfortunately.
It's hard on the first teams that the senior championship was deferred. They should have kicked up an almighty fuss.

Every championship should have been pushed out by the same number of weeks. People stating that the provincial club championships were looming large.....there's no rush, so, on Junior A, B & C.....run them off whenever.

The IHC & Junior A are affected by the senior clubs not losing players.

Have utterly no idea, but it can't be instant.

Why not?

Relegate:
1 - as is.
2 - two teams from relegation final.
3 - both teams from relegation final, loser playoff of relegation semifinal winners.
4 - all four relegation teams.
5 - four releg. teams plus loser playoff rd3 losers
6 - etc etc etc

Can be done. Should be done.

And not some Senior B bullshite. Relegate 8 teams to intermediate. No promotion that year from the IFC. Every level gets dropped a level. Kerry can do it. Galway & Tipp did it.

Laois afraid of their shite to change anything. Senior B/Senior A is horseshite. Structure the championships properly and let the clubs live or die by their strengths....not by being the second-worst team every year.

Because morons don't think this way. They're in an amalgamation because of numbers, then numbers rise and they split up, with no view on quality.

The problem in Laois is that we have far too many clubs for an 85k population.

If we forced our clubs to amalgamate, we would strengthen the clubs within each parish. What Laois needs now is a strong club scene. Clubs competing well in every level of the provincial competitions. I believe we'd then see an improvement at IC level.

I feel sorry for The Rock this morning. I detest what that crowd you played are doing. They take such a short term view on everything. God only know who they will have playing with them next year if they don't win the intermediate this year.
The way they have jumped in and out of bed with teams underage over the last number of years has been terrible.

Not sure the Castletown lads explains the 23-point hammering.

when you say harvesting, how many players were brought in from other clubs to those teams??

Any is too many. 1/4 of the population of the county and they're out robbing kids from other clubs? And despite a ruling that THEY proposed to the CB???

It seems our clubs love the letter of the law, never mind the spirit.

Is Cheddar coaching Portlaoise this year?

It's good that Portlaoise are in the pack.

They've two more years of weakish underage teams to feed through, before their current U15 team appears. Their U14s go to the Feile too and look strong, though these two teams appear to be improved by acquisition rather than organically.

Their U13B team is playing in Div3 and looks to be stronger than their Div1 A team. Their U11 A team seems to be middling enough. Unless they go harvesting around the parish again for more 'new' players, it would seem that they are relying on their current U14s/15s to bring the new quality through.

I think Cheddar should certainly be heading up the hunt for a new Manager but I don't think he should be the new manager. He was there for a few years and he was with the minors before that so someone with a slightly different approach and a new voice might be a wiser option.
Id love to see him try again with his blueprint for Laois hurling and for the Co board to realize their mistake and support Cheddars long term plan. He could also form part of the backroom team for the senior hurlers surveying things in the background, he would pick up on things and think outside the box in terms of drumming up interest in hurling, promoting it, planning the financial side of things.

This probably sounds harsh or unfair but I don't think the current panel are good enough to get us to where we want to go - that being able to compete in the leinster championship proper against Kilkenny and Wexford etc. They are good enough to win the McDonagh cup alright but are we happy with that? No is the answer to that so that's why I feel a long term plan should be foremost for the County board to develop Laois hurling.

The blueprint AND money from Croke Park to implement it. If CP are serious about the lesser counties, they need to back it. Stop doping Dublin and start sharing that €1.4m amongst other counties who actually need it now.

Cheddar's a smart man, so I'm sure the blueprint has been costed. Let Croke Park pay for it and see if it starts to bear fruit in 4/5/6 years time. I remember Cheddar on the radio a few years back, after we had just rattled Galway's cage, looking for funding and a Dub came on representing CP saying that there were finite resources available.

This in a period when Dublin has received €16.5m in funding, while the next nearest county has received less than €1m. It's a f**king disgrace what those c*nts have done to the organisation and it appears they won't stop until Dublin are winning All Ireland doubles for fun.

Look at the blueprint and get the c*nts in their ivory tower to stop telling us to eat cake and put their money with their big f**king mouths are.

Article above says laois need to beat meath by 25 points, seems to me while still highly unlikely a 13 point winning margin would see them through

Surely we need just better Kildare's win by three points however unlikely that is.

We spent the last 10 years railing against tier2 hurling and now we hang over the cliff of tier3. We have to draw with or beat Meath now to be sure of even a playoff. A Div1B league team playing tier3 championship hurling would be ludicrous and unprecedented.

There are two Div2A teams and two Div2B teams in the CR semis. Statistically, the chances of a 2B team beating a 1B team is tiny (about 1%), but the 2A win % rises to about 24%. Given momentum etc, you wouldn't guarantee a Laois win.

Beating Meath is the priority.
