Hurling Discussion / Re: Kilkenny v Tipp

KK by 3+. Couldn't judge Tipp on the Cork game, was made way too easy for them, whereas Limerick threw the kitchen sink at a ring-rusty Cats and still couldn't beat them. That said, would love to see the Tipp men do it.

Hurling Discussion / Re: Striking The Ball

Ok first things first, if you want to be a hurler you'll need that haircut and proper footwear! ;D

You're not doing too bad there, but you are throwing the ball up too high and hitting it too low. You should hold the hurley shorter and try throwing the ball to eye level at the most. Then striking it at that level or just when it starts to drop. Also, more power from the wrist and less from the arms.

There's a good chance Cork will be back winning All Irelands, around about the time I finish reading that first post! :o

Try gripping the hurley a good 6-8 inches from the base of the grip, a snappy wristy swing is what you want, find a wall and keep at it for an hour. Once you start hitting it on the sweet spot of the hurley you're away with it.

The tennis ball is a good trick but it'll give you false confidence, a tennis ball will travel far no matter how you connect with it.

Find a wall, use a sliothar and watch out for windows.

he is a much better hurler than footballer in that he does not  have to use his feet in the hurling! He has great hands and  uses them  to great effect in the hurling!
See people say this having seen him play once in the U21 Munster final, where he was outstanding. If people saw him in the county championship they wouldn't be half as glowing in their praise of him as a hurler. Leave him stick to the football and come hurling when he's ready, he has a long way to go before he can be thrown in on the likes of a Tommy Walsh.

Best of luck to Jerry O Connor, ex-HOTY, Cork legend, enough said.

Cadogan is not a hurling full back, and looks out of his depth at times there. His game would be better suited to half back. Every time he takes to a football field he is one of the best on show. Whether he has hurled the week before or not. I think people blame the dual player issue for his bad showing in hurling, when maybe he's not as good or out of position in the hurling. No reason Walsh, Sheehan and Cahalane couldn't do the same.

Fair play Limerick last night, even though we lost I was happy enough at the end, that kind of game warms the heart!

QuoteI think Cork will win a tight game

The only tight thing about this game will be the hould Cadigan will have of his opponents geansai (and other things)
Shur imitation is the best form of flattery. Take a bow Moynihan and Mike Mac.

Cork lost so many big matches before finally winning that all-Ireland last year. Cork are nobodies in the bigger scheme of football things. They only have 6 or 7 all-Irelands in total.
Galway have more and Mayo beat Galway so FFS get the head right Mayo and go out and win.
Also, they haven't lost to anyone bar Kerry in 8 years, they're totally useless. I'm sure they also would have struggled to beat London.

Good man Kerry Mike, look forward to seeing you lot again, even if it is in Croker. I'll sleep sound in my bed knowing that both of us know well if that back line started in Killarney it would've been a different story.
With a bit of luck there's not much wrong with Goulding. D O Connor seems a different player since the AI final. Alan O Connor has turned into a monster. Kerrigan seems to have realised how best to use his speed. Cadogan is a colossus. Shame that's the last we'll see of M Clarke, fine player.
On TV3, how come they caught none of the numerous off the ball incidents? Clarke seemed a bit mystified going off. The box in the head didn't seem to do Noel any harm either.

Articles from the examiner . And no I won't lower myself and support cork. Heading for Jones rd in a while
Good man Mike, I can't understand these Cork fellas supporting Kerry either, usually from West Cork. They look at ya like you've 2 heads if you're supporting Tyrone or Down against the animals.

Our full foward line has the ability to roast the full back line and I really hope they put Canty on Coulter.  Dont think Cork will know what to make of Laverty and by the time they do I hope it is too late for them.
No way in the world Canty will be in the full back line. The Cork back 3 will be Cotter-Shields-Cadogan. Pretty solid.

Down look to have a stronger bench alright this year but I wouldn't write off Cork's either. Sure we're down Nick Murphy, Colm O Neill and Ciaran Sheehan, the latter 2 providing a lot of the guile in our forward line but when it comes to powerful lads off the bench we don't compare. Paudi Kissane, probably Canty, Fiachra Lynch, Denis O Sullivan all pushing hard for the starting 15 but probably won't make it. Where we're short is corner/full forward options. If Down want to win this one you'll have to get a biggish lead and hold on, can't see ye living with us otherwise.

Really hope this is better than the final last year, obviously I'm tipping Cork but best of luck tomorrow and hope it's a cracker, the football championship could do with one.

Can't wait to see some Kerry tears in two weeks  ;D
Jesus many's the Corkman has been caught out by cockiness going down there these past 16 or so years, I wouldn't be getting ahead of myself Corkman. Wouldn't imagine anything but a 10 point hammering or something ridiculous would cause many Kerry tears either, they'll just go away for a bit and sharpen their pikes for Croker.

Brilliant by Dublin this weekend, hopefully as mentioned above they haven't peaked too soon and can give Leinster and the AI series a good rattle.
Tipp still my favourites for AI, KK looked a shadow of themselves and whatever else this game proved beyond all doubt that their squad isn't as talented or as deep as everyone believed. Still if they get their preferred first 15 or close out they'll be as tough a prospect as ever.
Galway, Waterford and maybe now Dublin can be classed as the second tier counties imo. If Tipp struggle post-Sheedy and KK don't improve dramatically with the return of their injured then I think one of these 3 have a good shout at Liam this year, it would be another much needed shot in the arm for hurling if it happened.

Can't wait for this game, both teams will need to buck their ideas up.

Tyrone for obvious reasons, need a win under their belts and some momentum if they are to stay up and avoid the dross that is contained in the division below (speaking from bitter experience).

Cork, even though they've won 3 games in a row, are far from convincing, especially in defence. If Michael Shields plays full back for Cork I think Tyrone will beat us, if Counihan changes him and puts him further out the field then I think we've a great chance.
