Quote from: imtommygunn on September 28, 2024, 07:03:25 PMGood win for st teresas- thought sarsfields would have won that. Not sure if the aggies beating st Malachys is a shock or not but the rest went as expected.

It wasn't a shock. Aggies won all group games against good opposition

Cahair is being well briefed from within Creggan so I think we can assume this is correct.

Now confirmed

If they declare it's a replay wouldn't be this weekend in order to stick to original calendar? Or maybe not enough time to notify the fixture to allow for game this weekend. That would push the final back surely

Great job today from Cargin hosting the game. Big number of volunteers managing traffic etc.

Congratulations to Casements Bannside, didn't think anyone saw that conclusion coming. Is Doherty the midfielder? Caught some great high balls.

We went up to Dunloy expecting exactly what we got, a tough game against a good side. Awful conditions today, the wind was certainly a factor.

Quote from: Square Ball on August 31, 2024, 09:24:55 AMSt Mals and Eire Og finish level on points, head to head a draw, both have - 2 score difference, looks as if Mals go though, was it points scored next?

Second and third in each group move into QF, so they both progress.

The four bottom teams go into a relegation play off, 2 semis and a 'final' - losing team drops to intermediate for next year.

So Moneyglass aren't down yet, all 4th place get two chances to avoid relegation

Well, it will be eventful I think we can count on that! I think it shows ambition from the County, Davy could give the squad that little bit extra, maybe claim a few big victories in one season - you never know where that could take us.

Good article in today's papers about Declan Lynch calling time on his county career.

Fair play to him, he owes county nothing at this stage and can bow out knowing his contribution was always at a consistently high level and very much appreciated by supporters.

Definitely agree with this, Declan never gave anything less than everything. A standout memory for me is the league game v Cavan last year, we were on a run of defeats and needed a win to stay up, towards the end we had a lead and Cavan were coming back into it, Declan took the situation by the scruff of the neck and with a few runs and a few hits, made sure we held the lead and retained our divisional status.

Of course it matters, it's the championship we are in, we can't win, or advance to latter stages of a competition we are not in, so we have to aim to win the Tailteann Cup.

There were far more Antrim supporters in Croke Park on Sunday than you ever see at a league game in Corrigan. Part of that is the appeal of seeing the county playing on the big stage and that's perfectly fine. The prize for winning is entry into the Sam Maguire competition in 2025 which we would not win, but which would lift the profile of the game and the team beyond anything we could hope for while playing Div 3 and Tailteann Cup. It matters to Down, to Sligo, to Laois and rightly it matters to Antrim too.

Anyone think that if we were playing Down on July 13th in the final that it wouldn't be an enticing prospect? It would have been huge.

Exactly. Maybe a TC final this year wouldve been good, just to go a step further than last year. Credit to Laois, i thought they were decent. Kicked a lot of good scores and got a slice of luck with the second goal. Also think the occassion maybe got to some of our lads. How many shots had we easily blocked in front of the posts? four or five? But they will be back stronger

What an occassion though. The young and old out and about Croke Park. Sun out, fantastic day out result aside. Hopefully many more to come in the future.

Agree - that's two years in a row we have been in Croke Park in blazing sunshine, lots of familiar friendly faces, kids loving it. It would have been great to be back again in 3 weeks but we have to settle to aim for being back in 12 months time.

Hard to be exact but I think the Antrim support there today was comparable to last year. Didn't seem to be as many Down ones around. Maybe Meath brought more last year than Sligo did this year, but not 7,000 more.
