Quote from: trueblue1234 on May 15, 2024, 11:35:59 AMQuick question on age eligibility. In lgfa a child can play one go games age group above their own group (up to u13 in Tyrone). And 2 levels above their group at competitive level - u14 upwards. Would a 12 year old who's playing u13 go games and u14 competitive, be eligible to play u16 as well? As Theres no older go game age group, would she be allowed to play the 2 age groups above at competitive games?

From the 2023 Official Guide:
Underage players can only play in their own age group at Inter-County level for U-14 and
U-16 (Effective 1st January 2024).
At County U-18 level, players may play in their own age group and one grade above. Over
18 grade is deemed an adult grade.
At club level, underage players can only play in their own age group and two grades above
it with grades deemed as Under 12, 14, 16 and 18. All grades Under 10 can only play one
grade above. An Under 8 can play Under 8 and 10. An Under 10 can play Under 10 and
12. An Under 12 can play Under 12, 14, 16. An Under 14 can play Under 14, 16 and 18. An
Under 16 can play Under 16, 18 and Adult and Under 18 can play Under 18 and Adult.

At Inter-County and Club level, players must firstly play and train with their own age group.

Personally, I would have serious reservations with an u12 (potentially P7) playing at u16 level (5th years) but it isn't against the rules.  I don't think go-games is a factor as the LGFA deem the age groups at U12, u14 etc.

A 12yo can play U16 but it depends on when the turned 12. If they turned 12 on or before the 31st of Dec 2011 then they're eligible to play U16, but ineligible to play U12.

If they turned 12 on or after 1st of Jan 2012 then they're still eligible to play U12 and ineligible to play U16.

Bottom line is that if a kid is eligible to play U12 in that year then they're ineligible to play U16 that same year.

I think you're looking at the boys Johnny. The ladies is different from my understanding. In that at underage you can play your age group and two levels above.

If they turned 12 on 31st Dec 2011 they'd be doing well to get away with playing u16  ;D
Yeah, the bit I highlighted above is from the LGFA official guide.

(No a dig at anyone just a marketing thing - I haven't listened to this week's one but IMO the Bells are modern day heroes and are just great people so while I have no doubt it will be a bit sad I'll be very interested to listen to them too).
I'd say with the Colin Bell one theres parts that would break your heart but they still manage to have a good laugh in other parts as well, loved the bit about him saying he's meeting lads he played with that are on walking sticks now, sure those are the lads that tracked back and made tackles I didn't bother with that!

Hard to even find superlatives to describe Colin and the service their charity provides tbh, have helped over 1800 families at such a tough time.
I remember Colin won the lotto... not the foundation, for them personally. Everyone was so happy for them. Good people have helped so many families.

Any word on Padraig McGrogan's injury?

Lynch's positioning aside, Donegal would've scored a few goals anyway:
First goal - certain goal regardless of Lynch.  Donegal had 6 men level/ahead of the ball to Derry's 3.
Second goal - certain point opportunity, probably wouldn't have engineered a goal for this one as Donegal didn't have the same numbers in attack.
Third goal - penalty (not inside the box) but Lynch was in goals.
Fourth goal - Donegal would have had a shot on goal, think they had 5 level/ahead of the ball to Derry's 3.

The problem was much deeper than Lynch's positioning.

No real surprise didn't think they'd risk McKinless from the start and he's a great impact sub.

No Murphy on the bench??

Can changes be made to the 26? Harte normally names his subs in alphabetical order. Doherty is out of place & Murphy would fit in at 25 alphabetically.

Good angle to show that Lane didn't see the incident at the time. Turn round due to the crowd's reaction

So he turned around, observed a player lying on the ground and an opponent standing over him, but didn't think to stop play to adjudicate.
That  seems like good refereeing.

So are you saying you want the referee to stop play every time that situation arises?

So a team on the attack in the final minutes of a game, a player on the defending hits the ground, the crowd reacts, referee stops play, consults all his other officials, nobody seen anything. Play restarts with a free to the attacking team which they aren't allowed to score from and the defending team are now set with everyone back and marking their opponents.

Fair point.

But is he not in communication with his supporting officials, i.e. when a linesman witnesses an actual legitimate assault/incident and informs the referee of the incident. It seemed like the linesman saw that happen yesterday.

My thoughts are that the next break in play is the time to discuss these incidents. Linesman sees something and notifies ref, umpire sees same incident from a different angle and has a different opinion.
The ref referees the game as he sees it, if he doesn't see an off the ball incident he can't keep stopping play to consult his officials. He also can't be in ongoing discussions with the other officials as there is a game to referee!

There was only 300 odd supporters at a fball /hurling double header. Surely any lower team got to look at Derry and say why can't we do it too.
Don't think he has a division 2 title (despite finishing top of the league)

Quote from: imtommygunn on March 17, 2024, 07:03:59 PMKerry and Dublin are the only two with the depth who can pull themselves out of any hole they may find themselves in. The rest take it seriously enough. The likes of Tyrone and maybe Galway have got wake up calls in the league. Tyrone will be better for it but Galway need to keep players like comer and Walsh fit to be all the better for it. A final in it is no big deal though.
There are 8 teams in Div 1

Kerry and Dublin make 2
Tyrone and Galway "got wake up calls"
Roscommon and Monaghan didn't "take it seriously"
"the rest" = Mayo and Derry !

Teams getting beat doesn't mean they're not taking it seriously.
Roscommon used 31 players. I wonder how many other teams did.

Roscommon not too different to other counties in Division 1

Historically, Glenullin would never have been promoted to senior championship on the basis of their intermediate championship wins (unless they nominated themselves).
At the start of last year they would've been aware that winning the intermediate championship would not have gained them promotion to the senior championship - did they appeal at this time?
And if Banagher hadn't totally messed up in the final few minutes of last years final there wouldn't be a word about it  ;)
They'll have the bit between their teeth to make it 3-in-a-row now though.

Quote from: Armagh18 on December 10, 2023, 09:18:43 PMThought Scotstown had a couple of chances to go for points and went for goals instead which proved their downfall. McCarron also gave couple of silly balls away late on.

My thoughts too.
There were 4 goal chances in the 2nd half, one long ball went to D Hughes who fisted, hit the post and somehow miraculously stayed out. The  second went to Darren again when he could've taken a point but there was a point from a free in the same play. The third was what you could say was a missed point when after a brilliant piece of play an effort at goal went amiss,  the 4th was K Hughes, the last shot of the game which (unfortunately) went straight to the goalie.
Going for goals was not the undoing of Scotstown, they started the 2nd half strongly and were ahead by a point on the 50th min. Simply put Glen were the better team in those last 10 minutes even if the ref in error penalised McCarron for over-carrying, didn't notice that he had only taken 3 steps. Glenn scored 3 points in the closing minutes from similar positions that Scotstown couldnĀ“t.

When it was originally blown I thought the ref was influenced by the crowd and gave a harsh call for overcarrying but in the replay it could clearly be seen that the ball swapped hands a couple of times

Quote from: general_lee on October 09, 2023, 02:36:09 PMHow are Glenullin still Intermediate? Did they not win it last year or the year before?

They won it last year but Galbally beat them well in Ulster. If they win Derry again this year can they play in Ulster?
Surely they should play senior in Derry though?

Historically there has never been promotion through winning the junior or intermediate championship; promotion has always been based on league.

However, that is changing.  This year there has been a "de-coupling" of the league and championship meaning, for example, next year Lavey will be playing Division 2 football but are still in the senior championship and 2 out of Swatragh, Coleraine, Loup and Ballinderry will still be playing Division 1 football but will be in the intermediate championship.

I still don't think there is any promotion for winning junior or intermediate championship this year (and possibly next year??) as the numbers in the senior championship are being reduced from 16 to 12.
