I read somewhere ages ago that Martin Short (Actor) and Clare Short (politician) were cousins and both hailed from Crossmaglen.  Any truth in this?

Cheers Hardy,
Quick Wiki check shows that they are cousins, their fathers are brothers and emigrated from Crossmaglen. They were born in Canada and Birmingham respectively.

and their father was a meath man, one of them used to run about with a meath jersey on.

I don't like to admit this, but the Gallaghers are distant relatives of mine by marriage. Their aunt from Duleek was married to my first cousin. I think that's distant enough to be able to disclaim any negative associations, musical, sociological, yobical ...

The Duleek Gallaghers, funnily enough, are decent people.

Xabi Alonso used to be a Meath man. He has the auld traaaan look about him too sometimes!

The quintessential Englishman that is Piers Morgan father hails from Meath I read somewhere very recently.

Got that wrong there, he was actually born Piers O'Meara in the land of the Biffo's.

QuoteOsama Bin Laden is actually from Longford.

This it true

Played minor for the Connollys in 1974 but after a torrid encounter agin Granard in the Minor semi final of that year - the same day that Mostrim bate Clonguish to qualify for the senior final versus Ardagh - decided that football was too rough and fecked off to Pakistan.

The rest, as they say, is infamy.

Yeah, was at it - one of the Kellys from the Terrace hit him a slap and told him he'd find him later in Heraty's.  Osama never darkened the door of any hostelries in Ballinalee since.  And no loss either.

Allardyce managed Limerick United (or City) back in the day. There's tales of him going around with buckets looking for money to keep the club going, in fairness to him.
