This seems a strange story with little sign of what has happened.

Quarter Final draw:

Man City v Barcelona
Olympiacos v Man United
AC Milan v Atletico Madrid
Leverkusen vs PSG
Galatasaray v Chelsea
Schalke v Real Madrid
Zenit v Dortmund
Arsenal v Bayern

I think the 8 seeded teams will go through.

City v Barca should be a cracker.

Does Jim have a point here or is it just a bit of crying?

I think it is a bit ironic as Donegal can hit as hard as anyone...

GAA Discussion / All Ireland contenders...
March 25, 2012, 01:06:58 PM
Now that we are well into the league who are the main contenders for Sam this year? Kerry, Dublin and Cork are obvious. Tyrone need to be included given their league form but got to remember it is division 2. Kildare are average so far but I expect them to improve. Are there any supprise packages?

QuoteA suspected burglar has been stabbed to death while apparently trying to break into a house in Greater Manchester.

It is understood the man was attempting to get into a house in Ethel Avenue, Salford, on Wednesday night when the householder tried to defend the house.

The man, 26, is believed to have been carried away by other members of a balaclava-clad gang as they fled, before being dumped in the street.

The householder, his son and son's girlfriend have been arrested.

Greater Manchester Police said it was treating the death as murder.

The men, aged 57 and 29, and 21-year-old woman are being questioned in connection with the death.

'Shocking incident'

Police have put up a 100m cordon around the terraced house in Pendlebury, which backs on to open scrubland.

Ch Supt Kevin Mulligan, who heads Greater Manchester Police's Salford division, said: "Clearly this is a shocking incident and a man has lost his life.

"However, I can reassure the community that we will thoroughly investigate what happened last night and do not believe that members of the public are at risk.

"I would urge anyone who knows something to speak to officers from the major incident team and anyone else who has other concerns can speak to my officers, who will be providing an increased presence to provide the community with reassurance."

Be interesting to see how this pans out. A group of balaclava wearing thugs try to break into a house, one gets stabbed by house holder, dies and house holder up on murder charge? It will never stick. Good enough for the thief!

General discussion / A judge with a bit of sense!!!
October 13, 2010, 03:54:30 PM
BBC

Quote13 October 2010 Speeding driver is fined a penny A man prosecuted for driving at 45mph in a 30mph zone has been fined 1p at a court in County Londonderry.

Kenneth Kane, 52, from Toberkeigh Road, Bushmills, was stopped by police on the Tobermore Road, Maghera, on 11 May.

He was offered a fixed penalty notice but failed to take it up in time.

Magherafelt District Judge Desmond Perry fined Mr Kane 1p and "with much regret" put three penalty points on his licence. However, he said the case "should never have been prosecuted".

Mr Kane had a completely clear previous record and no penalty points on his driving licence.

The judge asked the prosecuting lawyer to look at the case again, but she said she was unable to refer it back for fixed penalty as it it had now reached court.

Judge Perry said: "I wasn't even thinking of a fixed penalty. There must be something that can be done."

However, the Public Prosecution Service refused any alternative.

"This is a remarkable state of affairs," said Judge Perry.

"Young people are being cautioned for assaults, and others for thefts. Here is a man of 52; of good character with no previous and he is prosecuted for being 15mph over the limit.

"Where is the discretion?"

General discussion / Very expensive bit of Chicken
June 08, 2010, 05:39:57 PM
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/6960334.stm

QuoteA woman from Cwmbran, Torfaen took out a bank loan and lived on beans on toast for a year to pay £1,800 in vet bills after her pet chicken injured its leg.
Vicky Mills, 24, was heartbroken when Lily, a Rhode Island Red, got her leg trapped in a barbed wire fence.

Despite the costs, Mrs Mills told her vet to try to save the limb rather than have her put down. When the treatment failed, she paid for an amputation.

Lily was also diagnosed with depression but has now recovered, said Mrs Mills.

The chicken's gloominess was thought to have been brought on by being in the house alone while Mrs Mills and her husband Sam were out at work.

So the couple now leave the television on all day to keep it company and it is a "happy hen again", they said.

Mrs Mills was given Lily, now three-years-old, when it was a two-day-old chick and she now lays up to six eggs a week for her and husband Sam.

The cost of the seven operations was "worth every penny", said Mrs Mills, who has forsaken her holidays this year to pay the vet's bills.

"I love her to bits and it would break my heart if anything happened to her," she said.

"She's much more fun than a cat or a dog.

"She struts about as if she rules the roost - she really thinks she's top of the pecking order in our household."

The couple have taught one-legged Lily party tricks like keeping her balance as she stands on Mrs Mills' head.

Mr Mills, 23, said the couple were "devastated" when Lily's leg got snagged in the barbed wire.

"My wife loves that chicken so much that she could not bear to have her put down," said Mr Mills.

"But now she is a happy hen again and laying eggs regularly for us.

"She is quite happy to hop around on one leg.

"But sometimes she tries to scratch herself with her missing leg and falls over."

I love the last line :D :D

General discussion / Missing Plane!!
June 01, 2009, 11:36:27 AM
AN Air France jet with 228 people on board has vanished from radar screens, a French airport official said today.
The flight left Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday at 7pm local time and was expected in Paris on Monday at 11.15am (9.15am GMT), a spokesman said.

An official added: "We are very worried. The plane disappeared from the screens several hours ago.

"It could be a transponder problem, but this kind of fault is very rare and the plane did not land when expected."

The people on board are 216 passengers and 12 crew.

Great to be in the Final again this year. Would like to see Barca as it would be 2 great football teams and should be a great match.
