Fermanagh will be the biggest obstacle with Laythrum and Longford being their usual un neighbourly selves when it comes to anything Roscommon .   >
Of course if Wicklow are prepared to spend .... their manager might suddenly get very interested in the League for a change and also make it difficult for us.

On RTE Radio Sports this morning they had a piece on the FAI's Finances.
They mentioned the C E O took a pay cut of €17,000 p.a giving him a new REDUCED !!!! figure of €435,000 ( FOUR HUNDRED AND THIRTY FIVE THOUSAND EURO !!!!) which is more than the GAA Ard Stiúthóir and IRFU Secretary put together.

All I can say is

We await outcome of  the replay in Markievicz to know who will be our opponents.
Meanwhile Leitrim attempt to win a Qualifier game while NY, London  and Mayowestros await the 2011Championship. I know I shouldnt but 
I suppose we'd better turn  up for the final and get this year's drubbing out of the way.

Soccer tugs terrorise mothers and children in luas madness
FOOTBALL thugs spread mayhem and terror on board a Luas tram when fighting spilled over from the platform.

On another unsavoury night for League of Ireland football, the hooligans terrified women and children who were on board the tram when it stopped in Tallaght last week.

Members of the Garda riot squad arrested six men after disturbances at the Luas following the Setanta Sports Cup final.

Gardai deployed the Public Order Unit after fans from Bohemians and St Patrick's Athletic boarded the tram in Tallaght. Such was the mayhem on board that the tram began rocking from side to side, terrifying passengers.

One of the six men arrested is believed to have thrown a punch at a garda.

The May 15 violence began after the first domestic silverware was handed out.

Passengers watched as gardai physically subdued fans who refused to co-operate with them at the Tallaght stop on the Luas Red Line. An eyewitness told the Herald the clashes took place with terrified women and children looking on.

"There were a lot of women with children on the Luas at the time and it couldn't have been pleasant for them," he said.

"It was a frightening thing for anyone attending league of Ireland games. There were about 30 or 40 Bohs and Pats fans and from what we heard they had been refused admission to a number of pubs in the area before the game

"They boarded the Luas around 9pm following the game and began chanting and rocking the tram from side to side, mainly being a nuisance.

"The police came on and gave them a warning, but they had to call in the riot police when they wouldn't cease."

A Garda spokesperson confirmed to the Herald that they are still investigating the incident but no charges have been brought.

"Gardai are currently investigating an incident from Saturday night May 15. Six men were arrested by uniformed members of the garda who were backed up by the Public Order Unit," he said.

"The incident occurred at the Belgard Stop on the Luas Red Line at around 9.10pm. None of the men involved have appeared before the courts.

A Luas spokesperson said that they were happy with the security arrangements that were in place in the aftermath of the game at Tallaght Stadium.

"Veolia can confirm that there was an incident on one of our trams last Saturday. A large crowd arrived at the Luas stop at the same time and once aboard they started rocking the tram," she said.

"There were a number of gardai at the stop who worked alongside our security company STT to clear the tram. With any event that takes place at the Point or at Tallaght Stadium, we met with gardai in advance and work in conjunction with them.

"We also had additional security staff from STT deployed at the time of the incident.

"Thankfully the gardai were on the scene and intervened without us having to call them in once they saw what was happening on the tram.

"A number of gardai travelled into the city centre on trams along with our security to safeguard ordinary patrons."

I was reading a report in  one of Sunday's Papers about the Tipp County Secretary talked about the fact that clubs Nationwide spent about €30m on outside Managers last year.
Think of all the uses that money could have been put to rather than lining the pockets of chancers.

September 24th , marked the 65th Anniversary of Roscommons last All-Ireland Senior Football Title win. The following is a brief look back at that remarkable season.

The campaign began with a draw against Sligo n the Connacht Semi-Final at Boyle. In the replay, also at Abbey Park, the champions came out on to on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-6. In the Connacht Final, played in Tuam, they defeated Mayo 2-11 to 1-6. Cavan, beaten All-Ireland finalists in 43, were the next opponents. It took a replay to overcome the Breffni men in their previous meeting but this time the task was much easier. Final score Roscommon 5-8 Cavan 1-2.

Kerry, who at the time had won 15 All-Ireland Senior Football titles were the team that stood in the way of Roscommon retaining their All-Ireland title.
On front of a crowd of a record crowd of 79,245 at Croke Park, the ball was thrown in at 3:15pm. Roscommon made a good start with Donal Keenan scoring a free a minute into the game, after a foul on Jimmy Murray. However this lead was to last just six minutes as Kennedy of Kerry scored a goal and this was followed by a point by Dillion. Roscommon responded with a goal from Frankie Kinlough and points from Keenan (2) and Jimmy Murray to lead 1-4 to 1-2 at half-time. The second half began in a similar fashion; Liam Gilmartin scoreed a point but then Kerry scored a goal and two points without reply to move into a two point lead (2-4 to 1-5) after 17 minutes. The reigning champions werent going to go down without a fight and drew level with six minutes to go. Frankie Kinlough then put Roscommon into the lead and Donal Keenan added another in the 28th minute of the second half: his sixth of the game. The men in primrose and blue continued to apply the pressure until the Referee P. Mythen from Wexford blew the final whilstle. It was all over - final score: Roscommon 1-9 Kerry 2-4!
Roscommon retained their title and in doing so became the first Connacht County to win two successive All-Ireland titles. Jimmy Murray again accepted the Sam Maguire Cup and became the first man to captain a team to two successive wins. He is also one of only eight captains to lift the Cup on two occasions .

The Irish Independent report from Monday, September 25th 1944 lead with the headline "79,245 see Roscommon Triumph" " Champions strong finish thrills record crowd" .
In the report Roscommon were described as " Worthy Champions". "Roscommon were clearly the better balanced side. They put great determination into their play, fielded well and excelled in combination and judgement.

ARMAGH CROSS COMMUNITY GAA TEAM TO TRAVEL TO USA
Ulster GAA has announced that Armagh Cúchulainns Cross Community Football Team will represent Ulster at the Continental Youth Games in San Francisco, USA from Thursday 30th July to Sunday 2nd August 2009.

The USA trip is part of Ulster GAA's Community Outreach Programme: 'The Cúchulainn Initiative', where young people from non-GAA backgrounds are given the opportunity to learn the skills of Gaelic Games and to compete in the cross community hurling tournament 'The Cúchulainn Cup', which took place in May.
The team is made up of players from four schools across Armagh City - The Royal, St Patrick's College, Armagh High School and St Brigid's.



All players had no previous experience of playing Gaelic Games up until earlier this year when they received expert coaching by Ulster GAA Coaches. The boys were initially trained in the skills of hurling to compete in the Cross Community Schools Hurling Tournament, but their focus has now switched to Gaelic Football for the Continental Youth Games. This means the boys will now have the experience of playing both hurling and Gaelic football at competition level.

The team can also boast about being mentored by one of Ireland's finest players - Armagh Legend Diarmaid Marsden. Marsden is acclaimed across the island for his years of dedication to the Armagh side and for his vital part in securing Armagh's All Ireland victory in 2002. As team manager he will now lead Armagh's first ever cross community Gaelic team to compete on the international stage.

The Mooney Hotel Group, who control Armagh City Hotel, have backed this cross community initiative and are the lead sponsor of the Armagh Cúchulainns team.
President Mary McAleese and Mayor of Armagh City and District Council Thomas O'Hanlon have also expressed their full support for this pioneering cross-community initiative by Ulster GAA. Early this month President McAleese held a reception for the team at Áras an Uachtaráin and this week Mayor O'Hanlon hosted the team at the Palace in Armagh.

Ulster GAA President Tom Daly said, "The Cúchulainn Initiative is very important for Ulster GAA as we attempt to bring Gaelic Games to those from non-GAA backgrounds. Gaelic Games is something for everyone to enjoy, regardless of race, religion, social background or ability. We are delighted that the Cúchulainn Initiative has been so successful and I believe that is a measure of the steps taken by all the schools involved, the players and their families.

"The Armagh side are about to embark on a trip of a lifetime as they travel to the Continental Youth Games in America. I wish the team, their teachers and the Ulster GAA organisers a very safe and enjoyable trip. I hope that lifelong friendships will made across the four schools and that every player will continue to be involved in Gaelic Games long after they come home."

Mayor of Armagh City and District Thomas O'Hanlon, who honoured the team on Tuesday night at a Mayoral Reception said, "These young men are about to embark upon an amazing journey. It will be full of laughter and hopefully full of cheers. But, it will be in years to come, when the Royal School or the City of Armagh High School takes on St Patrick's Grammar School in a MacRory Cup Final on a St Patrick's Day and win by a goal and three points, its then we will see the seeds of hope that this initiative has planted come to fruition."

'My theme for my year as Mayor is 'Building Stronger Communities, Building a Stronger, Vibrant and Confident New Armagh.' When I looked at this team I see that Stronger, Vibrant and Confident New Armagh emerging before me. These young men are a credit to their schools, their families, their communities and to the people Armagh City and District and I sincerely wish them every s success as the represent Ulster at the Continental Youth Games in San Francisco next week

An organisation representing some Electrical contractors has refused to pay a 4.9% increase recommeded by the Labour Court.
Mary Coughlan is now invoking some clause of Industrial Relations legislation to deal with this matter.
Time for Employers to get real and stop trying to make the same obscene level of profits they were making (mainly by overcharging) in the Celtic Tiger era.

The Roscommon County Board will announce at the annual convention that their finances are back in a healthy state, just three short years after they had debts of up to Eu1.3 million.

Outgoing County Board secretary Seamus Maher will reveal detail's of the board finances at the county convention on Tuesday night, which will show that they enjoy a surplus of Eu176,251 following the year's extractions.

This is an amazing turnaround, given that their massive debt had hit the headlines three years ago, but to their credit, Roscommon County Board have worked their way back into the black.

Maybe now there might be an end  to the jibes from various quarters who are in no postiton to jibe anyone.

 

Will the Mayoites ever get over the shame?

Ros beat Kerry in the All Ireland Semi Final tonight by 0-6 to 0-5 in Ennis.
We held KERRY SCORELESS for the first half and the first 10 minutes of the second.
A sterling defensive effort by our lads kept the Kingdom forwards under pressure as they hit something like 14 wides. Mind you we had 12 or 13 wides.
On to the Final where I presume we meet Dublin who were playing Gloucestershire  today in Cardiff  in the other Semi.

I suppose we might as well turn up for it but we probably haven't a hope in Hell.

It can't be that ye are all only armchair followers of the fashionable Sky elements of the boring game 

This could well be the best football game of the weekend 
We looked good against Mayo but then again the Mayo posters say it was a verra bad Mayo team 
Galway bet us well in the Connacht League but werent as impressive against Sligo. Still that was their first Championship game so I suspect they will be a lot sharper on Sunday.
Hopefully we can do the business but it won't be easy.
While defeat is not the end of the road I'd prefer to see us enter the All Ireland series as Provincial Champions but wemight be glad of the back door yet.
