GAA Discussion / Alan Dillon Retires
November 28, 2017, 11:13:09 AM
Alan Dillon has called time on his inter-county career with Mayo. Continuously involved since playing minor in 1999 he has been a great servant to Mayo. A genius at finding time and space on the ball. I have often been told by a physio who treated him that he (the physio) never understood how he could perform to the level he did considering the injuries he was carrying. A dual All-Star who never stinted in his dedication to his club, Ballintubber, he will always be held in high regard by Mayo supporters. As I can't abide the term "legend" I won't use it but suffice it to say that his contribution as a link-man was vital to Mayo's successes  in the past decade and more.

Mayo / Promising Players for Mayo 2018
September 30, 2017, 12:56:34 AM
Even if we have few retirements from the 2017 Mayo team, there is a need to refresh the wider panel as it is obvious that many currently on it don't enthuse the management. Could those attending championship games over the weekend post names of players who show promise.

GAA Discussion / Commitment to Club and County
September 23, 2017, 08:52:44 PM
On a night of gale force wind and driving rain Colm Boyle has just driven his club to a much needed victory in the Mayo Senior League. Six days on from the All Ireland it says much for the mettle of the guy.

GAA Discussion / Ladies GAA Finals

42,000 tickets sold already for these games. I haven't seen much of Dublin this year but Mayo look fitter, faster, more athletic and less dependant on Cora than in recent years.

GAA Discussion / Sean Cavanagh Retires.
August 27, 2017, 09:29:16 PM
I don't like the modern habit of referring to players as legends but Sean Cavanagh has been one of the most influential players of this century. I enjoyed watching him.... the fielding, the dummy and the shooting. Will always be remembered as a great Tyrone player.

U 21 championship goes ahead on Weds night. Will the Senior and Intermediate games follow at the weekend if players call for a postponement?

GAA Discussion / Michael "Ducksie" Walshe R.I.P.
August 04, 2016, 05:08:53 PM
So sad to see the report on RTE. If ever the term "legend" was to be properly applied, this would be the case. Unbeatable in his prime.

"Legendary Kilkenny handballer Michael 'Ducksie' Walsh has died at the age of 50.
The Kilkenny man died this afternoon in hospital surrounded by family and friends after a short illness.
During a star-studded career, Walsh won 16 All-Ireland 60x30 senior singles titles and seven All-Ireland 40x20 senior singles titles and in total amassed 38 senior wins.
Up to very recently, Walsh was still competing and in March reached the All Ireland Masters A Singles final"

GAA Discussion / Case for the Defense
May 25, 2015, 11:18:11 AM
In the Mayo Senior Football Championship game between Castlebar Mitchels and Ballaghadereen on Sat night, the Ballagh coach, Eamon O Hara is reported to have asked the referee, before the throw in, if he had any objection to all his players bar the midfielders lining up in their own half of the field. The referee reportedly insisted that they must start the game with six forwards but what they did afterwards was up to themselves. After lining out in the traditional manner, Ballagh then withdrew all bar Andy Moran into the defense. At half time they trailed by one point. For the second half throw in all Ballagh players were in their own half.
Cutting edge coaching? Madness?
Discuss.
