GAA Discussion / Re: Money, Dublin and the GAA

'Not for the first time the GAA has found itself defending an apparent bias in funding towards Dublin. Figures released in the 2014 financial report show that Dublin received €1.46 million for games development – more than the other 31 counties combined'

No doubt this will be spun or ignored.

I know it is wrong about Dublin getting so much funding, but are the rest of the county boards so powerless that they can't ask questions as to why not us? Just wondering. Surely it would be no harm in asking for increased funding...

I just don't know how everyone else has stood back and allowed it to happen.

The money is per registered player. Not sure how that doesn't show the truth.

I suspect you won't get a response from any Dub.

Rightly so their hot favourites to retain their crown, will McCaffrey & ROC be returning next season?

Mayo will be challenging again as long as there is no major retirements although they certainly need the emergence of something different in the front 6 to go and win it. I'm not convinced about Regan so no doubt there will be plenty of pressure on Loftus to make the step up.

I know its a little bit of subject but there is certainly a connection between the 2 but there certainly appears to be a lot more scores from frees in the big games then there ever has been previously.

What do Man Utd fans make of I rahimovic? I've always felt he never produced in big games and was a bit over rated although you can't knock the mans goal record. However at 33/34 I don't feel as though Man Utd should be pinning their hopes on a man who although technically good is not the most mobile and whose best days are behind him. Should be building that attack around Martial and Rashford imo.

I'm delighted we signed him and haven't changed my opinion since, as long as there's plenty of pace around him he'll be a huge asset.

As for the performance we created enough good chances to win 2 games so I can't complain.

Deegan certainly got a couple of big decisions wrong but I don't subscribe to the idea that he did enough to cost Mayo, Mayo certainly were on the receiving end of a couple of free's that shouldn't have been given.

Anyone else think Hennelly should just keep his mouth shut and take the criticism instead of looking for sympathy?

As for Connolly he's very hard to warm too, he's the most talented player of his generation but he's constantly looking for confrontation.

I think Mayo will be back and won't be far away next year as long as there isn't too many retirements. I heard a rumour that Higgins will retire but I just don't see it. This team have played into late August or September for the last 5 years, you have to admire their character given the heartbreak they've suffered.

what pissed  off people about McLoughlin's Sweeper role is he created his own version of it which meant it was as much an attacking role as a defensive one. this allowed mayo half back to concentrate more one defending than in recent years . I think a lot of people just didnt get it.

as for the all stars  surely Conor McManus must get one he was in line for player of the year at one stage but monaghan earlyish removal would paid paid to that . i think he will still get one
i would also expect awards for Cathal mc carron peter harte,

You're not the first to plump for McCarron, i'll be amazed if he gets one though. I agree with Harte although given Durcan's performances in both finals he might be pushed out.

Extra game has probably helped a few players mainly Durcan who was no way near an All Star prior to the final but he's had 2 great games and will be hard to leave out. As for COC he doesn't deserve one, Andy Moran should be ahead of him in the pecking order.

I was under the impression the young player of the year is for an u21 and Durcan isn't.
U-23

I stand corrected.

In that case Quinlivan would be my choice for young player of the year.

Heard it all now, 14000 returns.

About 26,000 tickets go around the country to the non competing Counties so I'm fairly sure clubs are getting a lot more than 2 tickets each. From what I know there's a lot more Mayo people involved around the Country then Dubs and there's certainly a lot Mayo people involved in clubs around the world then Dubs, this is one reason why they might have got their hands on more tickets then the Dubs.

Some delegates have access to far too many tickets which leads to tickets been handed out the wrong type of people. I have no idea why someone thinks it fair for a delegate to have somewhere between 15-20 tickets.

Mayo club delegates to County Board receive two tickets. Same is true for principal club officers unless they take additional ticketets from the club tickets.

Apologies I was a bit unclear, I meant provincial council officers.

His popularity with supporters doesn't matter one iota. A top manager will drop him if needs be but everything with Jose is a game and mostly it's all about him.

He wouldn't have won all those trophies if it was all about him.

He held the club to ransom on a couple of occasions, threatening to go to citeh at one stage. He was well paid for any service. Was an excellent player for a long time but it has been really tiresome to watch in the last few years. Rooney never had the personality the others listed there had, never the same connection with the fans in my opinion. I'm sure he's not too worried.

MM - you weren't as understanding when the previous manager didn't drop Rooney.

LVG had 2 years with him, Mourinho has had a couple of months. I don't think Mourinho fully understood that Rooney isn't actually that popular with a large proportion of United's support.

I think he was giving Rooney enough rope to hang himself thus leaving it acceptable to bench him.

I've been saying that since the start of the season, if he'd dropped Rooney and we'd had some poor results he'd have got a lot more criticism then he's already received. 99.9% of United fans wanted him dropped yet the Neville's, Scholes & Rio continuously stick up for him and have blamed everyone else for his poor form.

Its not as easy as dropping Rooney and expecting everything to click straight away, its going to take time and there will be bad results without Rooney starting along the way but its a start and at least everyone appears to have acknowledged that he is no longer first choice.

Missed last week as was in watching the minor game and couldn't be bothered watching over it given the result.

At least some of the journo's have turned on Rooney but his mates in the media continue to stick up for him, their a disgrace. Only watched the last 10 mins of the Northampton game but apparently Carrick did well, hopefully he'll get more game time from now on. I've not heard when Mkhitaryan is back but hopefully its soon as Martial is clearly well out of form. Herrera is another one who hasn't been given a fair chance, one average game and he's out of the time whilst the fat scouser has been doing that for 3 years.

We need to get the best out of Pogba and playing him in a midfield 2 with Rooney ahead of him clearly isn't working.
