Title: Laois ACFL Division 2
Post by: SCFC on March 23, 2015, 10:00:34 AM
A few results from the opening round;

Ballyfin 0-6  Annanough 3-13
Clonaslee St Manmans 1-6 Ballylinan 1-7
The Rock 0-5 Ballyroan Abbey 3-13

Don't know what's gone wrong with The Rock but they are really going very poorly these times.

Couple of hammerings there...Ballyfin always start really slow in both codes nearly every year??

The Rock have lost so many players through retirement in the last 5-6 years there is just not the talent there to replace them

Graiguecullen are after conceding all their games in this division, so expect a strong showing in lower down divisions.

BallyroanAbbey &  Timahoe played out a draw last night in front of a big crowd.  Both sides will feel like they should have won it.  I presume Timahoe, will feel happier they were missing 3 County boys and we were down Tierney and Kearns.  0-9 0-9 was the score.  O Dempseys look well and truly the big guns in this division.

Is Tierney playing any football this year..

No idea but apparently Padraig Clancy is not.

O'Dempseys strolling this league. Hammered Annanough last night. Not the best preparation for the championship for them though.

Tierney is playing this year also McMahon.  O Dempsey's are walking this division in fairness they are a decent outfit who should be in Division 1.  Won't do them any harm being in Div 2, Ballyroan won the county in 06 from Div 2.

Big surprise the other night with Ballyfin beating Ballyroan Abbey. Could be a turning point in Ballyfin's season?
Clonaslee seem to be struggling - beaten by Joseph's second string this week.

Might be.  Ballyroan prob should have won but Ballyfin are going to improve alot.  I suppose I am stating the obvious Sean Moore is the key to their sucess.  First time they have had most of their players back I did rate them last year so hopefully they are ready to go now.

Massive shock Ballyfin beating Ballyroan but Ballyfin are a different team with Finn...Cannot understand how he isn't getting more of a chance with the county he was superb

I agree. I think he should be closer to the team. Wasn't even used down in Carlow.

Strange to go from a started last year to outside the 20 used against carlow alright. surely should have been used from the bench instead of sheehan.
Annanough look to be going well. they look to be well placed to challenging timahoe in the Intermediate.

Lad's I know you might have a thing for Finn he is decent not exceptional. Sean Moore is exceptional. I hope I am right in saying this,  Sean is going to light up Laois Football for the next few years. I seen him first against Timahoe last year and I am good bit older than him so I am not a cheerleader from the minor team.  This chap is exceptional I will refer to this post after Laois SFC I actually think he should get some game time against Kildare.  He just has a habit of been in the right place and the right time.  I don't think I have ever bigged up a player so I hope I am not putting the mockers on him.

He's too light. Let him develop before rushing him in.

I think you could pick  holes in most of the Laois Panel if your good enough your old enough.  He is a tough I would have no fears there.

It's not his age though. It's his size. He's a very light lad. I'd give him time.

Undoubtedly has the talent but i wouldnt be rushing him in either, let him train with the extended panel maybe. There is no doubt in my mind he will be a gem of a player for us in years to come but look what happened to donie brennan.
I dont think he ever met his maximum potential at senior county level as a result of being rushed in.

Young Moore is a brilliant prospect who we shouldn't rush on to the senior panel. Let him play his under 21 and college football for another year or two.

Don't think it was Donie's size. More to do with application and training.

Sean Moore is not small i'd say he is 6 foot plus already!

I'd bring him in to the extended panel he could learn a lot from Ross etc

You must be thinking of his brother James who is well over 6 foot as Sean is no where near that size. He wouldn't stand out physically in an under 16 at present! Leave the chap be and let him develop with Ballyfin and the under 21 and college set-ups as they come along.

No I know James  his brother another good player he is about 6-4 ...Sean is about 5-10 -6 ...All I'm saying is he isn't small

I hear he has been called into the development squad and has been impressing he made one of our top defenders look very stupid in a game recently I'm been told it was a dummy to beat all dummy's all the players were admiring it

He'll surely get the all star for that so

He's far from a young Donie Kingston bursting on to the scene! I'd 100% agree with redsetanta let the chap play more ball before we over hype him.

O'Dempsey and Ballyroan moving well in this division. Timahoe, Portlaoise, Ballylinan and Annanough all fighting for 3rd and 4th spot I'd say! How is Gary Walsh playing at the minute? He'd add a lot to Laois if he was in there, MJ Tierney in flying form against Annonough according to Leinster Express. Himself, Macmahon, Walsh and O'Leary all back driving on their clubs

ODempseys look to have top spot and a bye to the final locked up. Also Ballyroan Abbey look to have one foot in the semi with the other spot coming down to the game between Annanough and Timahoe. Big win for Ballyroan Abbey over Ballylinan tonight putting an end to any hopes they had of semis. Any match reports lately? How are Timahoe going with Quigley back and how is Clancy getting on with Ballyroan? ODempseys surely between themselves and Killeen able to bother the town come Champo?

Ballyroan and O Dempseys drew tonight with Ballyroan unlucky not to win.

Bit of a surprising result, I presume MJ was in flying form for ye Ballyroanabbey Abu? That's the first blip in O'Dempsey's form.  Have you a game review?

O Dempsey's prob did not bring their A game they were already qualified seemed to be going through the motions.  Ballyroan are young if they stay senior this year it will be a success

Park Ratheniska relegated to Division 3 here. they seem to be struggling after last years relegation to Junior A. Semi final line up looks tasty enough. Ballyroan V Timahoe (the Clancy factor  ;D) and O Dempseys V Annanough or Ballylinan.

Ballylinan now through to play ODempseys and Timahoe facing BallyroanAbbey. Bit of a big win for Ballylinan against the Hoe, 1-18 to 0-10, but the game mattered little to Timahoe as they were already guaranteed their spot while Ballylinan playing for theirs.

Ballyfin finishing below St.joes second team not a great sign for their début season at senior.

O'Depmseys are too strong for this division. They would probably be up around semi finals in Division 1 if they were up there. Hard to see anyone stopping them winning this league, though Mountmellick did surprise them last year! Don't like that they gave a walkover in their last game though. Not really fair on the other teams in the division.

Agreed that it doesn't look great for Ballyfin but they are usually a different team in championship, though it is hard to see them worrying Joseph's too much.

Timahoe look to going well, must be favorites for the Intermediate this year. Lost Clancy but Quigley is a serious gain!!

Timahoe must be a shoe in for the intermediate, can't see them taking their eye off the ball again and getting caught like last year.

Ballyfin will improve come championship, but it's hard to see them troubling Joes. I don't think they get too comfortable sitting at the senior table.

Ballyfin always just do enough in division two either to stay up or land mid table they are a different animal come Championship.
Can't see them troubling Joes first team who will have too much pace and skill for them..I nice back door draw could see them staying up in the Senior ranks though. They have 5-6 excellent footballers and a physical and gritty game that can be hard to play against!

Two interesting looking semi finals this weekend. Timahoe v Ballyroan Abbey and O'Dempseys v Ballylinan.
The Killenard lads must be strong favourites. Lost the Division 3 and 5 finals so they'll be anxious to nail this trophy!

I also think Ballyfin will improve come the championship. They mightn't beat Joseph's but I fancy them to win a game somewhere to stay up.

O'Dempseys through to final after comfortable win over Ballylinan. They will be warm favourites to beat Timahoe surely?
