attendance only 6500. corresponding fixture 2 years ago had 8500. tyrone support getting smaller and smaller.

It's the loss of hope. The common Tyrone football fan knows the Gap between themselves and Dublin. The Mayo fan has forgotten about last year and still harks back to Mayo losing by 1 point in 2017! They think their mainstay are the same, and forget they will be 2 years older this year. Years of being ''Close'' and bouncing back the next year, gives renewed false hope.
Copy paste job again Bunker? Cheer up ta feck.  :)

When you see some of the dross shown as live sport on TV look at link below and the stars of present and future on show tonight in Belfield.

Sigerson can get a hard rap from those who don't go to the matches and see everything through county team tinted glasses but it consistently produced high standard attacking football.

Are you expecting Galway to reach the All Ireland final then Maroon Manc?

Not at all. I wouldn't be as negative on the team as many Galway supporters appear to be but since Kevin Walsh there has been slight improvements every year come the championship. Given Silke & McDaid are back and that Cooke looks to have improved too its not unreasonable to expect an improvement on last year and that doesn't necessarily mean getting to a final.

Yes McDaid and Silke are big additions but I'm not sure what can be described as improved season on last year? Another AI semi final would show consistency. Mayo in 2011 after shipping a heavy AI semi defeat went on to reach the AI final the following year. I'm intrigued to see how Galway perform this summer some Galway supporters reckon they won't improve further and become AI contenders once again until a new manager is brought in which I think is a bit harsh considering how far Galway have come in the last 5 years.

Wouldn't be as harsh on Kevin Walsh as some others, will reserve judgment until the championship but can see why others are getting a bit frustrated. I think Galway have the players to play in a more attacking way once everyone is fit although if Galway had opened up against them on Saturday the scoreline would have been a lot more embarrassing then it was given the players available.

I'd like to see Kevin Walsh be a little less pragmatic in his approach, only time will whether he can be.

Kevin is an accountant so it's no wonder he's so fond of mentioning the bloody end of year accounts so often. Most accountants I know would be fairly risk averse so I wouldn't expect him to change. He replaced Tally with Kevin Stritch who is probably best known for his work with Castleknock in Dublin and they were a very defensive outfit. I think Walsh is who he is at this point. A conservative coach.

That said due to circumstances it's probably unfair to judge him on the league this year. He's pretty much come out and said they are well behind last year's work and are only looking to stay up by any means necessary. Still if they go down there will be serious pressure on them to perform in the Summer. You have John Divilly up at UCD and PJ with the U-20's so there are some of his former teammates knocking around that might become more attractive propositions if he has a bad year.
I thought he is an ex-Garda that sells insurance?
Ex builder also?

Get grate to fit your fireplace, nothing too low as you need air below to keep fire going on these long cold nights allowing for room for ashes, especially if burning high ash producing turf, timber etc. Don't allow new grate to protrude out too far which will smoke you out. Get matching front to match height of grate.

I leave a gap between grate and fire front to allow more air in, works a treat for our setup.

Be sure to have fireguard and fire companion set.

One question - is the word 'callow' widely used in Ireland? I've seen it more in the last couple of pages of this thread than I've seen / heard the word my entire life!  ;D

It's not widely used. Moysider must have been spending a lot of time down at the library during all this bad weather.
Or time down by the Shannon outside Athlone.

That was pure muck by Tyrone, long winter, short summer based on that

Not unusual for Tyrone to start the year slow though. Admittedly they are not usually quite this poor.

Never seen the game v Kerry,  but to score just 3 points up to the 42 minute at home, will tell you all you need to know.

The free taker was dreadful, fielding was awful.. Mikey would have a lot of work to improve that!

Kieth Higgins goal brilliant and the oldest man on the pitch the best player
Higgins 34 shortly. Andy Moran 36 at end of year.

Tyrone were brutal , made our bucks look mighty. Cavan will bring us back to reality next week .

Is there ever going to be protection for Aido?

Aidan O'Shea doesn't deserve protection. Let himself down badly again today

What happened??

The usual non stop slabbering to the ref / linesman / whoever he's near with sneaky elbows being thrown when no one is watching.

Swan dive and rolling about to get a black card card issued when he was at fault.

Shame. His and Keegans  antics make Mayo awful hard to like.
O'Shea over done the theatrics alright but gets awful abuse all through with little protection. If he reacts physically he gets the worse of It. Teams know this and target him.

Keegan was standing up for his young clubmate that the Tyrone hero was trying to do the hard man act on. Fair play to Keegan.

Real stupid comment to reignite any bad blood on all sides. Shows a real lack of judgement. If they felt the GAA were bullied if does not show him and his colleagues up in a great light to have bent to the pressure, either do the right thing or shut up and suck it up.

Too much spin being spouted from HQ in my opinion in last decade or so.

UCD 1-7 DIT 0-3

Evan Carroll goal after long run and a few pointed frees.

DIT need to nail frees if any chance. 2 bad misses leading up to half time.

UCD walked 2nd half.
Full time UCD 3-14 DIT 0-6

Con O'Callaghan missed more than he scored, still ended up with 1-2 or something. Savage riches at their disposal, will take a good team playing well to take them. Liam Silke my MOTM.

If Dr. Crokes win their semi, it would mean 3 Kerry clubs within a 5 mile radius would be in the 3 Club All Ireland finals

Dr Crokes, Kilcummin & Beaufort all in Kerry division 1 league for 2019?

A Junior team in Div 1? They'll be blown away :D

Beaufort won 4 games in Div 1 in 2018 (John Mitchels, Glenbeigh-Glencar, Kerins O'Rahillys and Killarney Legion) and had 1 draw (Rathmore).  They finished 3rd from bottom, only a point below Killarney Legion and Dingle.  They suffered their biggest loss of the campaign to Dr. Crokes, going down by 10 points.  Other biggish losses were by 8 (St. Mary's) and 6 (Spa).  Tight losses by 2 to both An Ghaeltacht and Templenoe and a one point loss to Dingle show they were not far away from picking up points.

Although relegated, they were far from blown away.  The fact that they have no county men meant they had a full squad for all league games, barring the usual injuries, players on holidays and suspensions.

So Beaufort were in division 1 last year (of an 8 team league) and are playing in the Junior Cship.

Right so.

Sounds fair

12 teams in Div 1 to 4 in Kerry.  What makes it really competitive is 3 promoted and 3 relegated from each division.  County league is not linked to tiered championship, so the league is really inferior to the club championships - no starred games or anything like that.  The purpose of the league is to give games during the summer to non-county players.

A little history of Kerry's league might be in order here - the county league started in 1970, the same year the ban was removed.  The intent was to keep players from playing the garrison game without penalty.  The championships always reigned supreme over the league.

The beauty of the divisional set-up is that a good player from a poor club will be seen.  John Kennedy (member of the 1984-1986 3-in-row team) was from Asdee in North Kerry.  Asdee went years without winning a game in county league or novice championship, but due to the divisional set-up, John was able to play with Shannon Rangers (comprising of about 5 clubs) and showed he belonged at the higher level.

To move from junior to intermediate, you must win the junior championship (ditto from intermediate to senior).  It's not that hard to understand.

In Kerry's county championship in 2019, there are big changes.  Kilcummin will probably go senior (having won the intermediate in 2018), at the expense of weakening East Kerry.  Similarly, An Ghaeltacht drop out of senior, but West Kerry get stronger immediately.

It is a very vibrant county championship as there are big changes every year.

I really don't understand why this issue is raised year after year.  In Cork it is very hard to get relegated...does that really help the overall standard?  If they present their 9th best club as intermediate, would Munster titles result? I say they would, but egos prevent certain clubs being called intermediate - even if a possible All-Ireland title is possible.

For 2019 in Kerry County League, the famed Laune Rangers from Killorglin (winners of All-Ireland senior club championship in 1996) will compete in division 4.

Nothing is sacred in championship or league - you will play at the level you deserve.
Fantastic system and well explained thanks. It's unfortunate for the competitiveness of the Munater & all Iteland club competitions that the Kerry intermediate & junior winners are not matching like for like coming up against other county champions. In my opinion takes away from these victories. Not Kerry's fault.
