General discussion / Happy Ed Balls Day everyone!

Happy Ed Balls Day! Who knew that five years ago, a Twitter fail would still be remembered.

And now Ed Balls and his family are joining in the celebrations.

It all started on 28 April 2011 when Ed Balls was shadow chancellor. He was urged by his aide to look on Twitter for articles mentioning his name, but instead of doing a simple search he tweeted his own name in error.

Since then on 28 April every year Twitter rejoices in the madness of the internet gaffe and marks Ed Balls Day.

As Ed Balls Day draws to a close, his wife MP Yvette Cooper has been urging him to join in.

What is the story with this company. They used to phone persuading me to service the boiler, then to switch something to something else, but now the latest message is some recorded gibberish about a widget(!?).

Anyone know what is going on???

...The student will not be required to study religion, but she will have to remain in the classroom while the subject is being taught.....

...The school confirmed that Mr Drury had been told his daughter could not opt out of religion....

....All ETB schools are obliged to teach religion. This was a stipulation that the Catholic church made to the State during the development of the then-VEC school system.....

http://www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/paul-murphy-admits-he-paid-property-tax-to-sell-house-1.2431217

The "reality is the boycott on property tax has finished," Anti-Austerity Alliance TD, Paul Murphy has said, after having to pay the tax on an apartment he sold earlier this year.

The man is a joke. He needed to sell a property so he ended his own boycott. Others need to avoid jail, to keep their jobs, so couldn't join his boycott, but he was a public servant so didn't need to worry about that. When he did have something to worry about, he coughed up the money pronto.

The last comment is priceless though:

However, Mr Murphy says he did not pay his water charges before moving out.
"I successfully sold without paying," he said.

This is the problem with the far left or far right, they proclaim their ideals from the roof-tops for all to hear, until they need to ignore those ideals for personal gain.

General discussion / 7 dead as TGV derails in France

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34822666

A high-speed TGV train has derailed near the eastern French city of Strasbourg, killing at least seven people, officials say.

The crash happened during a test run in the town of Eckwersheim, on a new Paris-Strasbourg line.

Reports say technicians were on board the train and seven people were injured.

The injured have been taken to hospital by helicopters.
Local government officials say the derailment was due to "excessive speed".

The train was carrying 49 people when it derailed, caught fire and headed into a canal.

Pictures later showed the locomotive partly submerged. Wreckage was also scattered in a field beside the track.

Britain's 'worst speeding offender' jailed after video showed him driving at 192 mph

6 November 2015 Last updated at 11:24 GMT

A man, thought to be Britain's worst speeding offender, has been jailed after filming himself driving at 192mph (309 km/h) on a Northamptonshire road.

Shaun Davis, 42, of Woodpecker Drive, Northampton, was found guilty at Northampton Crown Court of four counts of dangerous driving on roads including the A45, between 2012 and 2014.

Northamptonshire Police said his face could not be seen on the films and he had claimed it was not him on the footage.

After the hearing the charity the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) described Davis' actions as "criminally dangerous".
