Hurling Discussion / Re: Hurling Championship 2017

Great win for Waterford last night. Kilkenny were the only team we hadn't beaten in championship since we came out of the doldrums in 1998 so finally we got over the line against them. We nearly threw it away in last 15 minutes failing to score and letting Kilkenny back in. Great performance again in extra time and when Shanahan got the 4th that finished it and even Kilkenny weren't coming back from that. Tadgh De Burca was brilliant and so was Jamie Barron.
Quarter final draw is probably tomorrow so I assume the losing provincial finalists and qualifier winners are on opposite sides so it'll be Clare or Wexford v Tipperary or Waterford.

Brilliant video. Hurling has changed a lot in last 15 years to a more physical, possession based game so good to see a real hurling artist in action who had the skills and the brain. A real wristy hurler as Cyril Farrell would say.

Davy Fitzgerald will surely get a suspension after his antics yesterday. The GAA have been too lenient with him before as he was a disgrace at both league finals against Waterford last year and nothing was done about it. Diarmuid Kirwan leaves too much go and ignores blatant fouls at times which causes frustration so don't think he should be in charge of games at this level anymore.
Wexford did very well for most of the game and look a good prospect but didn't threaten a goal till right at the end. Tipperary are looking very strong again this year and their forwards have plenty goals in them.

There was half a page on the hurling semi finals but I agree wasn't great coverage.

The team Waterford picked meant I thought we'd lose and Derek McGrath was clear from early in the year that the league wasn't a priority once we had secured out 1A status. It's strange how it turned out then. Great performance from the young Waterford team early on against a lacklustre Galway but Galway came alive in last 15 minutes to win. Derek McGrath now being criticised by some Waterford fans for taking off some of the younger players like Foran and Roche who were doing well and bringing on experienced players who didn't make an impact.
Great wins for Wexford away to Kilkenny and Limerick in Cork so interesting day in quarter finals. As expected Tipperary hammered Offaly.

GAA Discussion / Re: Munster Club Championships 2016

Rte radio and a lot of people seem surprised that a Waterford football side could beat a Cork side which is fairly simplistic as differences at club level are obviously not as big as inter county level. Nire have some decent footballers like Shane Walsh, Liam Lawlor and Conor Gleeson who have played inter county hurling and football and the O'Gorman brothers who have played for Munster. Gleeson was by all accounts outstanding today. They could put it up to Dr Crokes in the final.

3811 at Waterford hurling final. I haven't heard any figure for football final.

Great win for Waterford yesterday. 3 goals in first 15 minutes or so set us on our way and game was over at half time with 13 point lead. Galway got 5 points in a row early in 2nd half but never got closer than 8 points and 4th goal ended any chance of an unlikely comeback and then brilliant late Stephen Bennett goal put icing on cake. Hopefully more of these players can make step up to senior level too.
About 90% of the crowd were from Waterford with very few Galway fans there.

I don't think the commentators or fans would be too happy with that as hard to make out who is who.

Kilkenny full back line lack of pace was badly exposed by a brilliant Tipperary full forward line. Paul Murphy even struggled. Kilkenny kept battling but the game was up for them after Tipp's 2nd goal. Tipp after they won the All Ireland senior and under 21 in 2010 didn't go on to dominate the game and win another few All Irelands as some expected so will be interesting to see can they do it this time. They have the players and a good manager in Michael Ryan who will try and keep their feet on the ground. It was a good game but the fact that Tipp won by 9 points means it wasn't an all time classic.

Where can a neutral get tickets for Saturday's replay does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

You can get them from tickets.ie or Supervalu or Centra supermarkets.
Great game last Sunday and looked like we were finally going to beat Kilkenny. Some wides in last 10 minutes cost us as even 1 more point would probably have been enough and a well worked Walter Walsh goal saved the Cats. Great point from Fogarty in fairness to level it too. Waterford fans disappointed  at end but hopefully we haven't  missed our chance and last Sunday gives them the confidence to know they can do it.

General discussion / Re: Mary Boyle Case

I just watched it there on youtube so it's still available. It seems astonishing that a call from a politician would be enough to stop an investigation into the main suspect for the disappearance and probable murder of a child. It happened in such a rural and isolated area that the chances of an outsider involved like child killer Robert Black who was being mentioned by some journalists driving into the area were almost zero and this was ruled out by the retired GardaĆ on the documentary. They looked haunted by the failure to solve the case especially as the main suspect seemed about to crack and confess at the time.

Great win for Waterford in midweek and games in under 21 are generally a lot better than senior games these days as managers don't have much time with under 21's as Sean Power admitted so not much time for over analysis or defensive tactics. It's usually a case of go out and hurl. Waterford fans after the game were happy with longer balls being played direct into forwards and more off the cuff plays like Bennett's overhead pass to set up Hogan for the crucial 2nd goal.

Dismal day all around. The Park and Ride buses that were advertised weren't at Mungret and Limerick greyhound stadium when we went there after 2 so delayed us and ended up having to drive into city centre to park, miserable wet weather, poor crowd which was 17000 down on last years final and a terrible beating for Waterford. I didn't think Waterford with our defensive set up would take a beating like that again but it was as bad as the 2008 All Ireland final and 2011 Munster final.
This website was blocked at work so can't even log in here that often anymore. If we beat Wexford our reward is another semi final v Kilkenny. At least our under 21's had a great win v Clare during the week playing attacking hurling to lift morale.

Hurling Discussion / Re: De Qualifiers

It'll have to be Pairc Ui Rinn. It's home ties for this stage of qualifiers and Pairc Ui Rinn can probably hold 15000 or so which should be adequate for this game. Dublin fans don't travel in big numbers for hurling anyway and with Cork's form this year won't be huge demand from them either.
