Waterford relegated in the play off game v Cork today which survived the weather . It took 20  minutes for us to score today and that  slow start cost us. We got back to within 2 points of Cork at one stage in 2nd half but the sending off of Maurice Shanahan within a minute of coming on for a petulant slap of the hurley (not for the first time) probably ended our chances. Cork finished strongly to win the game. It's been a disappointing campaign and Derek McGrath is getting criticised for his attitude to league. We have no home games in round robin in Munster championship as Walsh Park is not suitable for championship crowds. We have 2 games in Limerick where Waterford have a poor record so the morale is low at the moment.

You don't  hear much about Scor these days. Is it still popular? I took part in question time as a teenager and we got to Munster final somewhere in Co Cork possibly Banteer. My memories of it are vague enough now but can remember the hall being packed as Eamonn said and big interest at the time.

Is there any rule against feigning injury at the moment? This needs to be stamped out before it gets worse and ends up like soccer where it's part and parcel of the game.

Another disappointing defeat in this year's league for Waterford today. Kilkenny were much better in heavy conditions. Fergal Horgan  seemed to forget about the advantage rule early in the game and he called back play when Michael Kearney was in behind Kilkenny defence in a good position. We are struggling up front at the moment. Cork away is our next game and a win is needed to have any chance of avoiding a relegation play off.

Waterford beating Cork by 11 points in All Ireland semi final after being 2 points behind mid way through 2nd half. Barron and a wonder goal from Austin Gleeson in 2 magic minutes turned the game and we could enjoy last few minutes knowing it was won.

Another good game in sunny but cold Walsh Park today with Ballygunner getting a narrow win for 2nd week in a row. Sixmilebridge playing with the breeze were much better in 1st half with 41 year old Niall Gilligan getting a few points. Ballygunner started 2nd half very well and had drawn level within first 10 minutes. 2 Jamie Shanahan points put the Clare side a point up with 3 minutes to go but a goal and point from Jj Hutchinson got the Gunners  over the line. Morey got a last minute goal for the Bridge but it was too late. Na Piarsaigh had a big win in other semi final and with their record in Munster club will be favourites for the final.

It was a good game in good weather at Walsh Park yesterday. Ballygunner have underachieved in Munster club as well with only one title back in 2001 I think despite numerous county final wins. I thought when Thurles Sarsfields drew level to bring it to extra time they'd have the advantage with the Gunners playing for 7 weeks in a row but the Waterford champions got the last two points to deservedly win. Padraic Maher got some great scores and was a great leader but him and Thurles keeper at fault for the goal from Mahony's free.

Ardmore beat St Marys in west junior hurling final in Waterford yesterday.
Senior and intermediate football won't be completed in Waterford for another few weeks.

Yeah it's been in local media last few weeks that Waterford won't have senior football completed in time. There's one team in intermediate football final as St Saviours won east final last week but not sure about situation in the west. I don't know about junior football. Hurling should be completed in time barring replays. Quarter finals are on this weekend in senior hurling. Senior hurling championship has been on every weekend since All Ireland final so team going into Munster will be either tired or well prepared depending on how result goes!

Hurling Discussion / Re: New Hurling Championship Format
September 30, 2017, 08:02:28 PM
The GAA proposals have been passed so we'll have Munster and Leinster championships on a round robin basis next year. I wasn't in favour of this change as feel it was dilute the provincial championships. The same buzz won't be there for round robin in my view and winning a knockout game always feels better than picking up 2 points. Crowds could be affected because of this as top counties could be playing each other 4 or 5 times a year between league and championship. A lot of the hurling counties were against the proposals including Waterford and Cork. County board chairman Paddy Joe Ryan said today he doesn't know if Waterford can host home championship games due to the limited capacity in Walsh Park.
Galway will be happy as will finally get some home championship matches and have their minors and under 21's included in Leinster but overall I don't think there was a need for this change. Quality is often better than quantity.

Anyone else find it strange that they didn't review any of the controversial decisions during the game? No mention of the O'Gara hand in face incident at all. Normally they love a bit of controversy but last night they were more interested in talking over each other.

Yeah that makes sense and I was only saying it over the weekend after the Kilkenny Derry mismatch. It would only add 2 games to the inter county schedule and would give Galway a game before going in cold to the semi final. An few of the Galway players struggled with cramp  towards the end of the game.

Second half was savage stuff

Was the last free Galway # 5 got (that Canning dropped short) awful soft?

Yes. I thought so too considering Barry Kelly was letting a lot go. I was only saying Joe Canning was having a quiet game by his standards when he came to life in last 15 minutes to win it. A Tipp defender possibly Cahill or Kennedy had a rush of blood to head letting fly with a ground strike with 7 minutes to go which went straight to Canning out by sideline who scored a great point. Very exciting game and Tipp will be so disappointed not to have got a draw at least.
